The audience for Major League Baseball is aging and shrinking. That's indisputable. Corporate clamp-down on pricey perquisites keeps premium seats at the new Yankee Stadium unsold. MLB is dying. The audience for Minor League Baseball (MiLB) is growing by millions. Who really owns the future of professional baseball?

A new story at SZ by Dan Hickling about fighting in hockey. After last month's death of an amateur and the seizure of a minor league pro, the question popped up at the AHL All-Star game: Should fighting be banned?  The last time this came up was McSorley's vicious shot to Brashear. Does someone need to die in pro hockey to get a rule? [Article]

BOCA RATON, FLA -  01.09.09 - MLN Sports Group LLC, the publishers of SZ , the first digital sports magazine on the Internet in 2000, announced today a high commission subscription sales program to roll out across North America this quarter.  Resellers will earn up to $3.00 per $11.99 subscription, a 25% commission on the completed sale of every SZ user account.

"There are more than 93 million people who watch professional minor league, independent and alternative professional sports in North America," said MLN Sports publisher Brian Ross. "SZ caters to this massive audience. We're moving beyond our direct sales system on the Internet to reach more of them.  The upside, both for MLN Sports and our partners, is tremendous."

The new network of authorized resellers will operate on three primary tiers. Independent contractors and existing regional print subscription sales firms will be eligible to become Territory Managers, Master Resellers, or Authorized Resellers under the program.

Territory Managers will oversee the seventeen territory divisions of North America.  Rights to cities and counties will be offered to Master Resellers, small distributors and entrepreneurial salespeople with ties in those markets.  Everyone from sales pros to off-season club salespeople to part-timers like students and homemakers will be able to apply to become Authorized Resellers who will either work with a Master Reseller or independently, depending upon the market.

"In SZ, we offer a great publication at a very fair price, $11.99 for a year," said Ross. "Now with this program in place we also offer interested salespeople a highly rewarding entry to the next generation of publication sales that, according to the New York Times this week, is part of the revolution that has just passed up the newspaper as the principal source of news for most Americans."

SZ will provide both digital and physical sales tools to the resellers, and manage gross commission distributions for the Territory Managers, Master Resellers, and the independent Authorized Resellers.

"We have always been on the leading edge of the Internet publishing industry," said Ross. "Celebrating our tenth year, and the vast use of high speed Internet connections, we produce a publication with the look and feel of print and the power of the Internet for .03 cents a day. Even in a tough economy, we believe that .99 cents a month will be an affordable luxury for most minor league sports fans, and major league fans who follow their farm teams."

For complete details on each program in the network, a map of the territories, or to obtain an application, interested salespeople should visit:

Territory Manager and Master Reseller interviews will begin immediately, with most of the TMs to be in place by the middle of February prior to the roll out of the big MLN FAB50 Hockey and Spring Training 2009 issues.  All applying for Authorized Reseller status will receive immediate attention.
