It's been one of those 24 hours when, in a seemingly accelerating world, the world for once is stood still. Frozen in disbelief at the tragic , untimely news of the death of  the one and only, Michael jackson.

I am writing this , with the BBC website broadcasting live coverage of the news. There really has been nothing else on our screens, and on our social networks all day, and all night. It is a monumental moment.

Yesterday should have been a day of total celebration. The sun was shining, it had been a good week, with some exciting news musically, and best of all, my daughter was coming to stay with me, after a long time away. So it was all shaping up to be a  fantastic week.

Then last night, I was sending back some audio parts to a producer in Ibiza, when my daughter shouted out to me, that Michael jackson has been rushed to hospital. I logged onto Twitter, and sure enough, people were talking about this. I can't tell you how much I hoped it would be a false alarm, a publicity stunt even, a hoax! But one by one, the updates kept coming, saying it didn't look good.

I'm sure that some cynics were thinking..oh there we go.. a way of MJ getting out of these gigs at the 02. You know.. I told you , it wouldn't happen etc.

I think that people have been at times, so cynical about Michael Jackson, and I blame some of that squarely on the media. Unfortunately so many people believe all that they read, in the press, and even on blogs. The written word is gospel, so it seems. I know from personal experience, that this is so. people seem to be able to write whatever bullshit they want and demonize people who don't deserve it, and some of us as readers take it as the truth.

We've delighted in poking fun at this guy, who though he undoubtedly had his flaws, didn't deserve to be treated this way.

I posted a status update on my facebook page, about this untimely death, and a couple of people have said some very nasty things about the guy, saying he was disgusting  and words to that effect. We have to remember that this guy was not found guilty of the crimes he was accused of, and putting my cards on the table, I don't believe he was guilty.

Unfortunately long after people have been proved innocent , the stigma that was attached to them, remains. You just have to look at the ca of Colin Stagg, the guy who was accused of murder on Wimbledon common. Even after he was found innocent, people still continued to believe he was guilty, until recently when the real killer confessed.

Away from all that heavy stuff. Lets remember the guy for his music. Without a doubt in my mind, we have just lost the greatest artist the world has ever seen, or will see again. And I tell you what.. at least half of the people making music these days, or working in the music business, would not be doing so, without this guy. So many people have been influenced and touched by him.

Lets name some names who probably would not be here without him.. Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ne-yo, Britney, Madonna, Prince even... Prince's first record the falsetto heavy ' I wanna be your lover' was very much like  Michael jackson.

Only a month ago, I saw Tito jackson, and was quite excited. At last i'd met a Jackson.  Quite a few people I know , had met him, one was his Dr for a while, and my old manager used to hang out with him in the early 90's. I really hoped I'd  get the chance to meet him one day. Like a lot of people I had tickets for his shows at the o2 Arena. Sadly, i won't now get to see him, let alone meet him, but his legacy , and his music will live on forever.

This guy remember, was the artist who made it possible to have black artists on MTV in the first place. Something we now take for granted. . Before him, black artists were not seen on this channel, but his Thriller video was too good to ignore.

Having sold a reported 750 million records. He really had nothing else to prove. No one will ever match this!

It's early days, and obviously an emotional time, but I  am tempted to boycott some of the trashier tabloids who made a lot of money out of belittling this guy , and demonizing him while he was alive, but who will now be sycophantically  lining up to sing his praises.

Berry Gordy took the words right out of my mouth. Michael jackson, wasn't the sort of person who comes along, once a lifetime or once a century. He was the kind of guy, who only comes along once, and we have been blessed to have been entertained by him for  in many cases, all our lives.

I hope he has found peace at last!

Michael Jackson, Icon, Music legend, and humanitarian, RIP

Mooli on Radio 1Well it was a good end to the week, finding out that san Francisco rain is this week's essential new tune on BBC radio 1, with Pete Tong on friday.

Typically I had my phone off, cos I was recording a new track, written with dance producer Oliver Lang.

I decided to leave the phone off, and went to bed. Didn't bother to turn the phone back on until mid day on saturday, and one by one these text message came in, telling me that they'd been listening to radio 1, when san francisco rain came on. All very exciting, and quite unexpected, so I'm well happy about that.

Didn't get the chance to actually listen to the show until Sat eve, and have to say , the track sounded great on the radio.

It's always been one of my personal faves from the album, and I'm pleased that it will be made available in it's own right on July 2nd.

This is a little bit embarrassing, but also quite pleasing at the same time in a way.

Good news first.. The track Wasted by My Digital Enemy Feat Mooli, is on the new Universal Tv advertised album ' Street Nation' which features Lady GA GA , Akon, Rhianna, Tinchy Stryder, and N Dubz amongst others.

Universal Tv albums tend to do really well, with them often going Platinum etc,  so obviously hoping that this one does well  too.

The embarrassing thing is , that it's already for sale, and only just found out about it. How messed up is that?

Have a great weekend!

Happy Easter!

As you may know by now, the plan is that the next mooli album will feature guest vocalists!

Just posted a new song working title' Black spring' featuring singer, Hannah from x factor, which we're thinking about releasing as a download single.. Mooli feat Hannah.

Here is a link to Hannah on youtube..

Hannah

What do you reckon to her voice?

Also, a new dance remix of ' San Francisco Rain' is sounding really good! I went out to a club and heard it played on saturday, and it went down really well. More remixes are getting done, and they'll be a sample of it up here on Youtube soon. Already, it's has attracted the attentions of a couple of labels. More news about that soon!

Well, it's february already! Can't believe it's almost valentines day? Lol.. and , so soon after christmas. Indeed time is racing on again!

But it's been a while since there's been a Mooli gig. That's been the case for several reasons, which will take another blog to fully explain, and go into, but the good news is that there will be a gig in May . On May 29th to be exact, and it will be at the Wychwood Festival at Cheltenham racecourse, with a new live line up. The festival featured newcomer ' Duffy' last year!

We are performing on the BBC stage, and quite excited to see some of the other acts on, which include ' The wonder stuff' Alice Gunn, Natalie Ross, Orphans and Vandals, Dan Whitehouse. Over the course of the weekend, Supergrass, and one of my favourite bands ever ' The Beat' will also be playing, and loads of other good bands. Watch out for a piece in the Independent newspaper soon, and there is talk of a compilation album being put together - possibly to come out via the Indie or one of the other broadsheets .
There is a piece in the NME about it..

http://www.nme.com/news/supergrass/42340

Apart from that, quite excited about a new dance remix of 'San francisco rain' that's being finalised at the moment by a top Remixer.. I've heard the early version of it, and it sounds excellent!! So can't wait to hear the final version..

Also , been doing some writing on a couple of things.. Amongst other things, I have been writing ' top lines' for a new track by the legendary DMC , from Run DMC. That man can rap!! Been quite challenging coming up with chorus ideas for his tune, but the rap is so good, I am determined to nail it once and for all. ..Either way, it's gonna be a wicked record, time it comes out!

No, this isn't another blog about Barack, as much as I'm pleased to see him voted in as President, and leader of the so called free world.

Been pretty slack on the Blogging front lately, for numerous reasons, The chief one being , that I've been in the studio writing lots of new tracks- not all for Mooli I hasten to add.

I have a new manager, who is really well connected especially in America, and he's been putting together some great co - writes with people having a lot of success there and Internationally.

I've been getting together with some cool new co- writers, and writing for other artists, in different genres, and I've got to say, I'm enjoying it immensely. No playing involved on my part, just writing the actual songs.

Some of the people I'm working with have some great tracks under their belt, with US artists like Aretha Franklin, kanye West, Pussycat Dolls, John Legend and Jordin Sparks to name but a few, and I've been doing what's known in the industry as ' top lines'. Basically writing the song to their tracks. It's something I've had success doing over many years and I love it, and it's a different form of expression to composing the music.

I have to admit it can be emotionally draining though, going back over past experiences, and pouring your heart out, time and time again. I find I get more tired, and my mood is subject to change depending on what I'm talking about in the song. It's almost like being an actor, and having to go into character, and taking your character home with you.

I guess it's also like therapy in a way, which is a good thing, apparently, lol. Anyway I am really happy with the songs I've written. One called ' Empty ' and another called ' set it all aside' that I especially love, and the feedback so far has been really positive, so we'll see what happens.

With those sort of songs, you've just got to let go of them, once you've written them, and let them have a life of their own. Can't be too precious about them really, as much as you love them .

In the past few months I've been fortunate enough to have Companies like Disney wanting songs I've written, and I have now got three songs coming out on movies, which is something I've wanted for a while. It's like buses- you wait so long for one, then 2 or 3 turn up at the same time, near enough. Of course, the wait for the royalties is another story, lol.

I think anyone who reads these blogs knows by now that ' One Design' is on a film soundtrack. The film is called Gnaw. It's a British film, and I see that there is a link to the trailer for the movie. I have no idea when it's coming out, but assume it will be sometime in the new year. All I know is that One design is featured in a big love scene.

Here is the link, if you're not feeling too squeamish! Haha

It's been quite a week.

Apart from the fact that history has been made with the election of the incredibly intelligent and charismatic Barack Obama ( I wonder how long it will take for computer spell checkers to catch up) , it would also have been my dear old mum's birthday this week. Shame she never lived to see the day ( she would have been 66 this year). I can just imagine how she would have felt, witnessing scenes around the world of people celebrating the election of a black US President. Now that ( something which seemed unthinkable not so long ago) been achieved, I really hope that everyone comes together regardless of race, religion, and all the old, outdated divides, and work together.

It's time we all got rid of the village mentality and realise that we're all just people living together on the planet at the same time. And no, I'm not a hippy in case you're wondering, lol.

On the day of the election, I recorded a new song' Give off ' with singer, Natalie Ross. We only spent a few hours on the track, so we will probably do some more work on it , once we've lived with it a bit, but thought I'd road test it here for a few days to see what the reaction is to it. Not sure what is gonna happen to the tune at the mo..although It might be billed as Mooli feat Natalie Ross, at some stage next year. We'll have to see how the album is taking shape in the next few months. Hopefully things will work itself out.

Talking about road testing.. someone drove their car into my house yesterday.. luckily no one's hurt, inc the driver- an 18 year old driving a brand new car! Every Tue, it's a student's night in Maidstone, with cheap booze , so he no doubt took advantage of that, but forgot to leave his car at home.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of going on a songwriters retreat in an old manor house in  the middle of the gorgeous Kent Countryside.

It was at the invitation of Singer- song writer and BBC presenter, Tom Robinson, and the event was sponsored by Notting Hill Music,  Publishers behind hits for acts  including Beyonce, Eminem,  Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera , Prince, Usher, Madonna, and countless others.

It was a really inspiring trip, in a really gorgeous  setting. Basically  12 song writers from various bands were invited  to  write songs using a technique known as  the ' Immersion songwriting ' method, collaborating with each other, over a period of 30 hours.. well with time off for sleeping, probably 24 hours . And in that space of 24 hours, some great songs were written in that time, and some firm friendships made!

The other writers-artists on the trip were Singer- Songwriter Alice Gun, Producer  Al Mobbs from ambiguous Records, Singer Dan Whitehouse, Nik and Lou from duo, Hoodlums, singer Al Joshua from Indie band Orphans and vandals, Singer- songwriter Natalie Ross, and Tony and Aleysha, from paper Street Soap Company.

Right at the end of the retreat, we had to get up and perform the songs in front of two executives from Notting Hill Publishing.

So there was i, singing five new songs I hadn't rehearsed the words to, in front of all the other acts, plus the chairman and Head of A&R of the Notting Hill Group. Talk about pressure!!

To let you into a little secret- we all knew that we had to perform in front of two executives, but Tom had played it down so well, that we only realised afterwards that we were being watched by the head of the Company, and the Head of A&R, which is just as well, as none of us felt inhibited.

Anyway, tomorrow- saturday night on BBC radio 6 music's Tom Robinson Introducing show, you can hear all of the above mentioned acts, plus Tom will be spinning a tune by Mooli. So check out the show if you can. It starts at midnight, but for all you clubbers and early birds, you can of course check out the show by logging onto the BBC website, where for 7 days, after the live broadcast,  you can listen to the show online.

After producing some new artists, inc a fine new female singer called katharina Wild, and overseeing some recordings of a new  female led indie band called Hibiscus, I have been getting down to the business of writing some new tunes.

On the current album ' Concubine' there were a number of tracks that I did guide vocals on initially, including ' Underneath the same sun' and ' Time' .

Being a backroom boy, who basically enjoys hiding away, tinking  in the studio, or standing at the back at gigs, it's not easy to raise my head above the parapet and allow myself to face the flak of letting you hear me sing  on one of the tracks I write but somehow, I have been persuaded to be brave and foolish- live a little as they say, and post up one of the new songs I have written for the next album, leaving it in it's original state.

So on our player is the new song ' Don't mention me'. Hope you like it. Goodness knows how it will sound by the time it's out on the next album- out sometime next year, all being well!

I probably won't leave it online for too long, but let me know what you think of the song.

Apart from that, I am talking to a  publisher about a new publishing deal, which is pretty exciting,oh  and ' Concubine' will soon be available at stores throughout the middle East, inc Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

There has been an offer regarding Mooli playing at a festival in Dubai in a couple of months time, but to be honest I don't think we'll be able to do it. Hopefully if the offer is still there next year, and things have settled down, we'll be able to take part. I'm sure it will be fun!

Ok, confession time. I don't get to watch much television , so I'm generally pretty clueless about what's on the box, most of the time, except when Little Britain is on, or a big Football match, like an important International.

So it took going to a someone's house the other day for me to find out that we're playing on MTV and VH1 at the moment.

The guy whose house it was was saying to me ' Oh , I saw your video on MTv dance the other day' and his girlfriend was saying ' My brother really likes Mooli, and he was telling me all about you. He knows all these obscure bands that no- ones ever heard of'. Charming! Haha..

So, it's true ' Save you' is back on the box, and on MTV and VH1's playlist, so hopefully you'll be able to catch it .

If you check out MTV's Chill out zone, you should hopefully get some more details, but a run down of a typical days output from a random day last month throws up this lil list from VH1. There's some cool tracks on there, by Nithin Sawney, Gorillaz, Tricky etc, so nice to be in their Company. We've been getting played during the week- 3 out of 5 days!
