I guess with more out queer celebs represented in the media these days, we are more likely to see queers of all kinds represented on TV. I'm going to come out about something here. I have developed a newfound interest in some celebrities, in celebrity culture and I have actually watched a little bit of TV in the last few months. I love that Lindsey Lohan and Samantha Ronson are together. They are both hot and so butch-femme together.

I just do not think our culture was ready for two fighting, lying, crazy lesbian ex lovers on two seperate courtroom TV shows this week. There, I said it. It shouldn't have happened. The lezzie police should have prevented it. Not that "fighting, lying crazy lesbian ex-lovers" is so far from my own history or my friends', it's just that we obviously aren't that far along in political history that we can afford to showcase "bad" lesbians yet. So please don't take your crazy-ass cheatin' lesbian break-up on national TV, okay? Write it in script form and send it in to the L-Word so at least it can be deemed "fiction."    Speaking of sending it in to the L-Word...Does anybody have any idea how I can get my new CD into the hands of anyone who works for the show? I'm pretty sure they'd want to hear my dirty dykey songs and that would bring me one step closer to fame.

That Old EP

If I ever get "famous", anyone who owns a copy of the of my 2005 EP "CUT AND COLOR" will own a piece of history -because it will never be printed again and the last copy of it just sold on Nov 1st. Living With Uncertainty and Detachment.

The funny thing about "not knowing" the outcome of a situation is that we can hold so much potential, and so much hope in that moment! If you choose to be positive, you get to live in the beautiful daydream of your best case scenario. Yes, I'm talking about the election which is slowly unfolding as I write this, but I'm also talking about everything else.

It seems quite ironic to me that as I'm finally mastering the art creating my own happiness- that all of a sudden life would just get ten times easier. I'm so glad to have turned a year older in October. I do notice that for many people, responsibility becomes more and more natural as we age and I am convinced that happiness is all about responsibility. But taking responsibility can only make you happy if you can get detached from your own controlling egoic desires. It's sort of like that famous prayer:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."

I found the person I'm going to marry (first I had to let go of the idea of ever marrying)- but then I've got the stress of a wedding- which I can take responsibility for but I can't control whether the more clinically insane family members do anything weird. I also can't control the weather or whether the caterer is having a good day.

I made the album of my dreams which was all about control- but then I have to promote it and make a tour for it which depends on music biz people and promoters deeming me worthy- which I have no control over.

My favorite life coaching clients might have to leave in financial hard times and I have to let them go - But then they often come back and with a new enthusiasm!

Oh its no bed of roses being self-employed- and its financially chaotic. But somehow I've learned how to navigate the completely terrifying uncertainty of my unusual life choices. I also know that I'm completely unhappy when I'm not putting my all into the two things I love, music and life coaching.

And through my painful, unstable, broke and confused path, I've found some pretty impressive tools for speeding up learning responsibility, non-attachment, letting go, and stellar intuition--and it's really fun to teach them to my coaching clients!  

I had this beautiful group of people in my living room this Sunday and we meditated for Obama and visualized the healing of our nation and world (we tried to do it without attachment to the outcome or being aversive toward the other candidate) and it occurred to me that living in the midst of  uncertainty can be incredibly peaceful.

GO AND RENT "SICKO" by Michael Moore right now. Put it in your Netflix Queue right this moment! And then invite all of your friends. I don't know why it took me so long to see it, but I am angry, fired up, sad, and I cried all the way through it even though I'm not supposed to cry because it's bad for my sinuses.

In my few adult years so far- I've been turned down from health insurance because of medical issues. I've been dumped from it for being ten days late with payment. I've had to decide between buying health insurance ($300/mo) and stocking the fridge with healthy food. I've had my health insurance charge me three times as much for medical treatment what the doctor would have taken if I paid him cash. You need to see this movie and you need revolt with me to get us all socialized medicine. But just in case, I'm working even harder now on my French so I can play music and retire in Paris where the doctors make house calls.

New Album Info:

Happy October! It's my favorite month because of my birthday on the 21st and my favorite holiday, Halloween! This October is ever more special because I just birthed a baby. It's a record and her name is Quickie. We're calling it an album of naughty love songs and my co-producer/engineer, Matt Brown has decided that the genre of my music is 'Really, Really Alternative- Country.' Certainly mainstream country doesn't play the word Schlong. Yet. By the way, L'Shana Tova to the jews. I write this from LA with my parents celebrating the new year and all of our Libra birthdays.

The third song  on the ReverbNation player is Alaska, my Sarah Palin song which barely made it on the album.  The album has some mostly acoustic songs and some full-blown band songs with electric guitar and everything. It was lots of fun. Who knew "Bisexual" was actually Honkey Tonk?!  Then, MP3's will be available on CDBaby, Snocap, Myspace and many more, and the next week, the first run of the CD will be in my hands to go out to CDBaby and you at shows. CD release party announced soon!

Moorea Malatt April -May 08 Newsletter:

It's been a while since a newsletter from me has come your way! I had one vacation and then the rest of my winter was very drab, but Spring has me all sprung, so here you go! Now there are good reasons to send one again: fun shows you should come to (including New York!), coaching with a new intensity and the zygote of a new album.

I was pretty sure I was taking 2008 "off" from worrying about becoming famous. I took a "real job" and decided to play less shows. Well, my dream of entertaining you seems to persist in the world even when I temporarily give up on it because it seems I have as many shows than ever, including ones I am hugely excited about.

Of course, I do love being the Naked Folksinger, because I love making people laugh. Still, these days I'm thrilled by the novelty of keeping my clothes on and singing some slightly less crass songs occasionally.

So, even with the help of friends and family, I did not make it into the finalists round of the International Songwriting Competition- but guess who did? My friend Holly O'Reilly! She has been performing in Seattle for years and started the IndieGrrl music association, of which I belong. Holly and I are doing a very SUPER SPECIAL HOUSE CONCERT together this May!

New Album:

I'm going into the studio this Summer to record a new album. Impeccable sound quality. Simple. Quirky. And loads of songs (20 or more) all jammed into a small time frame. We'll call it "Quickie". And it will be packaged environmentally! The songs will be all of my new work including Naked Folksinger naughty songs, sad ones, kids songs, short ones, long ones, maybe even a new version of an old one.

They're Going On a Witch Hunt

It just occurred to me that Dalai Lama rhymes with Obama. To me, this is "a sign" of our earth's changing consciousness. Really I know it's just that I'm a songwriter and I like when things rhyme, but I've been obsessed with spiritual "signs" since I was a teenager. I just saw the Dalai Lama in Seattle talk about a new compassionate consciousness on Earth and I'm also reading A New Earth by Ekhart Tolle. Unfortunately, the fundamental Christians are also into signs and they have, seeing signs of the Rapture, launched a campaign against the New Age movement and self-help gurus Ekhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Rhonda Byrne and somehow Obama is thrown in there for good measure. You can now search for videos and a new ( heavily plagiarized) book on "Oprah, Obama and the Occult" wherein it is decided that Oprah and her beloved spiritual teachers have been possessed by the devil and are the largest cult-church in America.

I, for one, am a proud member of the Church of Oprah. I don't get to watch much TV but I do love Oprah online and all of her gurus. My life coach was a student of Oprah's own life coach. I saw that as a "sign". I'm thinking of getting a five-pointed star necklace made with her production company "Harpo" scribbled inside. That way, if you read it backwards, it will say Oprah. Totally satanic.

In my opinion, most of these "New Age" teachings are fairly Buddhist thought based which is nothing like the occult, but who cares! I'm asking everyone who reads this to join with me and read all of the great New Age gurus, to expand your mind and to let go of your ego and sense of worldly self so that You can be replaced with the One compassionate world-consciousness which is Us. In the meantime, let's have compassion for the Fundies and their big egos.

Come on, darlings, drink the Kool-Aid with me! Pick up a used book this week!

Life Coaching:

Wake up, it's spring! Time for mental, emotional and spiritual fitness, and I'm your coach! You may realize that I have left out physical fitness. That's because the scariest people of my youth were gym teachers and my tennis coach, and so, I am not the right person to coach you in that department. However, if something is missing from your lifelike love, joy, freedom, peace or "me time", I'm your woman. Same thing goes if you would like to improve upon your communication skills at work and in relationships or set goals for your bright and shining future (or just next week!).

Also, I have stopped doing personal organizing because of how time-consuming has been, but I am itching to do phone coaching or run-through-home coaching for those wanting a head start in the right direction in Spring Cleaning of their home!
