It's been a while, I know. I've been pretty sick the past several months, but I've been feeling a bit better after the surgery so I thought it might be time for an update.
-------------------------

Had a nice chat with Ethan Van Sciver today. It's been too long.
-------------------------

That doesn't mean I'm doing anything with Flash Rebirth. So, kids, stop asking.

I'm not involved with Blackest Night, either. FYI.
-------------------------

Been doing a bit of work for IDW . A really good group of people over there. Being treated with respect feels a little strange after such a long time. Anyway, I've hammered out the three-issue Wrath Of Khan adaptation for them (covers below), and had an absolute blast. Great adaptation by Andy Schmidt and Chee Yang Ong.

Next up are a few Transformers projects and more Trek . I'm in geek heaven.

-------------------------

Finally got the chance to see Speed Racer . No shit, it's a great popcorn movie! Lots of fun.
-------------------------

I'm no longer working on Dead Ahead. Kind of pointless to continue on a project that doesn't pay. I'll fill in the details after the court case is finished.

-------------------------

Cover Round-Up

HOUSE OF MYSTERY #13

I've been a huge fan of Neal Adams since I was 13. I took a job in high school at the local comic shop just so I could get my hands on his Deadman stories in Strange Adventures. It's always a thrill to work with him.

X-MEN FOREVER #2

X-MEN FOREVER #8

THE WRATH OF KHAN #1

I loved working on this series. Art by Chee Yang Ong.

THE WRATH OF KHAN #2

TRANSFORMERS: CODA #1

SKAAR #8

I just had to show this off. This was the first version of the cover I handed in, and I really liked the cosmic feel to it.

Hey folks, it's been a while.

First thing's first. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a cause that's become really close to me of late, for reasons some of you know. The next time you're in the supermarket and you're asked to donate a buck toward research, please do.

-------------------------

The first issue of Dead Ahead hit the stands a few weeks ago, and it seems to be a hit. Personally, I'm thrilled at how it turned out. I'm mid-way through issue 2, and it's looking dynamite.

If you haven't seen the book yet, here's a preview:

Man, I love this zombie stuff. I haven't had this much fun in a long time.
-------------------------

Something else I've been working on is IDW's Ghostbusters mini series. Keith Champagne, Tom Nguyen and myself, and it's been a lot of fun. Two issues in the can, I believe the first is hitting the stands this week.

(I'd post some art, but I'm not sure how the folks at Sony would react. Sorry)
-------------------------

Oh, and I am still working on Flash: Rebirth. At least for now. Nope, no preview images. Don't ask again. And get off my lawn!
-------------------------

Cover Round-Up

Got a couple of things here...

Iron Man: The End 1

Since this was posted over at Newsarama a few weeks ago, I figure I could probably post this without someone blowing their stack. Art by the legendary Bob Layton.

Nightwing 150

Yep, me and Ethan, together again!

That's it.

Pretty cool, huh? And no, it isn't made of ear wax!

Although I do feel that Frank D'armata deserved to win, I'm not above profiting from his misfortune.
-------------------------

Got a couple of neat things this time around, a few piece done for the fine folks at Wizard Magazine. The first here was for an article on the 10 Most Controversial Costume Changes in comics...

-------------------------

And the next was for an article on the Top 20 Comic Book Alternate Futures. Art by Mike Perkins...

A lot has happened over the past few months. Some good, some bad. I won't bore you with all of the details, just the pertinent stuff.

Drove to Seattle for the Emerald City Con. My first time to Seattle in years, and my first time ever to the Con. Boy, what a great show! The fans were great, only a few odd ones in the crowd, and Jim Demonakos and his crew really kept things together. Really, probably my best Con experience in years.

A few weeks later I drove out to Chicago. Yes, I drove from California to Chicago!Aside from being pulled over three times in Ohio by the Highway Patrol looking for illegal immigrants, I had a blast the whole way. And Wizard World Chicago was pretty damn terrific this year. Again, just really positive vibes from the fans, and getting to hang with Ethan Van Sciver, made it a great experience. I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Bob Layton and his lovely assistant, Sorah.

Just got back a few days ago from the San Diego ComiCon. Wow, it's become such an over-bloated monstrosity! Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is my last year.
-------------------------

One of the cool things about the Chicago Con was that we found out who won this year's Wizard Fan Awards. The ceremony itself was canceled for some reason. But on Sunday I was virtually assaulted by camera men and presented with the award for Favorite Colorist.

Since I was robbed the chance to give any speech, let me take a moment here to thank a few folks. First of all, I need to thank Pete Tomasi. I'm delighted to see that he won for Favorite Editor, because he really is the best editor I ever worked for. A real stand-up guy, and I miss working with him almost every day. Ivan Reis and Pat Gleason, because I'm only as good as the artists I work with, and they're phenomenal. I really need to thank my pals Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver. As rough as things have been over the last year, these guys stuck by me. They're true friends. And finally, I want to thank the fans for overlooking four much-more talented colorists than I. But since I've always been one to take advantage of other folks' misfortune, I'm keeping this sucker!

Taken from Wizard Magazine 203.

Cover Round-Up

Marvel Adventures Hulk 16

Not quite sure why they threw this one at me, but what the hell. I've always been a fan of Tom Grummet.

Hancock

Got an Email several weeks back from Neal Adams wanting me to color this piece up for some sort of movie promotion. I never saw where it was used, but any chance I get to work with Neal...

Dead Ahead 1

Here's something cool. I'm working on a three-issue zombie series with Alex Nino! Man, this is gonna be great.

Flash: Rebirth

And of course, unless you've been sleeping under a rock for the last week, you know Barry Allen is on his way back. It'll be good to work with Geoff and Ethan again. We're really gonna blow people's minds with this one.

Just a quick update on a few things.

Been getting a LOT of questions about my leaving Green Lantern. Yep, issue 25 was my last. No, I don't foresee ever going back. The decision was mutually beneficial to everyone. I now get to work with people who respect me and my work, and they get someone to work for a cheaper page rate. Win/win for everybody.
-------------------------

Oh, and it looks like I've been nominated for another Wizard Fan Award this year. Very cool. I hope I win it this time, it'll be a nice end-cap on my tenure on GL, and my career at DC.
-------------------------

No, I didn't attend WonderCon last weekend. The show has become a real zoo over the years. That, and I saw that none of my friends were gonna be there, which is really one of the main reasons I go to these things.
-------------------------

I've been asked about Mega Con, too. Won't be attending. I was asked to color up the T-shirt (art by Jimmy Cheung), but ultimately was told I wasn't invited to the actual show.

-------------------------

Won't be attending San Diego either. The flaming hoops I had to jump through last year to get a space in Artist's Alley was ridiculous. If you remember, I got a nice form letter telling me that my work, track record and/or publisher wasn't good enough to warrant a table. Artist's Alley is reserved for the cream of the crop, or words to that effect A lot of top-notch artists received the same letter, and I was terribly disappointed to see that folks like Leonard Kirk, who had attended the con for something like ten years previously, had been dismissed so easily. So imagine my outrage to see the folks at the table across from me dressed as fucking pirates, selling tie clips and cufflinks, and having nothing whatsoever to actually do with comic books.
-------------------------

However, I will be attending Wizard World LA, March 14-16. Should be a good show, the Wizard guys always know how to have a good time. And I'll be attending the Emerald City Con in Seattle, May 10-11. Haven't been up that way in years. If anyone has tips for good places to eat in Seattle, I'm all ears.

That's all I've got for now!

Since this is my first post of the New Year, I thought I'd share with you all a few thoughts on the passing year.
-------------------------

Things I Learned in 2007

Cancer is no excuse. For anything. Ever.

Being an editor means never having to say you're sorry. Or wrong. Or anything but perfect.

"Do as I say, not as I do" apparently is an effective means of corporate management.

I really miss Pete Tomasi.

Most of my industry friends are fair-weathered. When the chips are down, they beat feet.

Some friendships are forever, though.

The Queen Bee must be serviced, but never spoken to.

Disneyland might actually be more fun than Disney World.

The one film I'm looking forward to this year, more than Dark Knight, more than Iron Man, is Speed Racer. What an amazing friggin' trailer.

My double-secret non-existent exclusive contract was all smoke and mirrors, all bullshit. And people wonder why I'm "always so angry".

It's my fault people are snakes and scumbags.

While I fully support the writer's strike, and I'm glad they got what they wanted, I'm pretty pissed that the TV season is pretty-much over.

Braces cost a hell of a lot more than when I was a kid.

Cover Round-Up

ALL-NEW EXILES 5

I'm in the middle of two fill-in issues of All-New Exiles. As a kid I never would have believed that I'd get to work on a Chris Claremont book. And getting to work with Alan Davis has been a true joy.

ALL-NEW EXILES 6

SPIDER-MAN FAMILY 10

MARVEL ADVENTURES: HULK 10

Keep your eyes open for artist Sean Murphy. This kid is gonna be something.

... and here are a few preview pages...

IRON MAN: LEGACY OF DOOM 2

SALVATION RUN 7 VARIANT COVER

Always a thrill working with Neal Adams. I'm always forced to keep my inner-fanboy in check.

WAR THAT TIME FORGOT 1

Not sure if that's the actual title of the book. But it's nifty just the same.

Hey Folks.

This is more out of necessity than anything else. I'm putting these things up on Ebay this weekend, but I thought I'd let you guys have first crack at them. I'd rather they were in the hands of real fans than some art collector who's going to try and sell them off in a few months for a decent profit.

Here we go...
--------------------

I've shown this one before, but here it is again. An authentic Radu's coffee mug. Very few of these in existence, from what I understand, and it's in perfect shape. A little dusty, maybe. This was given to me by editor Bob Schreck when I got the regular GL gig.

--------------------

Here's the original cover for Green Lantern Corps: Recharge 3. Art by Pat Gleason and Christain Alamy.

--------------------

This is page 22 of Green Lantern: Rebirth 1. This was my favorite page of the entire series. Art by, and signed by, Ethan Van Sciver.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
--------------------

Finally, this isn't exactly GL related, but I thought I'd toss it in anyway. This is the original cover painting for the Starman: To Reach The Stars tpb. Beautiful mixed-media on art board, with the image area measuring 12.5 x 18.25. Art by Tony Harris.

If you're at all interested, feel free to drop me a line at mrmooseman@comcast.net. Easier than PM-ing me.

Thanks.

UPDATE!

The coffee mug has been sold.

UPDATE 2!

Looks like I've sold the Recharge cover, too.

UPDATE 3!

I've just posted the Rebirth page and the Starman cover to Ebay. Feel free to check out the auctions. Good luck!
