finally wrapped up the new solo record. 8 songs--tracked, mixed, and mastered in 30 hours. the time crunch (due to my tiny budget) was actually a great thing. it forced me to be more efficient, more precise, and less nitpicky. :)
working on making it available in as many places and in as many forms as possible. for now, here's the link to buy on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Fire-EP/dp/B001EJETIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1219687301&sr=8-1
thank you all for listening. enjoy. mm

Family, Friends, Fans, and any combination of the three—
There are two versions of this story—one really lengthy, another very short. I think the latter is the more appropriate of the two for this kind of thing.
As much as it hurts to confess, Moses Mayfield will be no longer as of January 1, 2008. There are a few reasons for the break up, some that are private within the band, and some that are not. I've always loved this band…I've given my life to it for the past six years. However, due to my inabilities to stay mentally and emotionally healthy on the road for extended amounts of time, I've had to call it off.
We all plan on pursuing other avenues in the music world, and we're all still close friends. I've wrestled with this decision for quite a while now, and it's finally time to pull the trigger and go my own way. I plan to continue writing, recording, and performing…but in a way that doesn't lean so heavily on relentless touring and promotion. I truly appreciate everyone who has supported this band over the years—I can't tell you how much it kills me to disappoint anyone. I hope that you guys will keep up with my solo endeavor and with the boys in whatever they choose to do in the future. I love all those guys and I'm sure we'll make some more music together someday.
Until then, please stay in touch. I'll be posting new demos on my site (www.myspace.com/matthewmayfieldmusic) and performing solo for a while. Once again, thanks for the continued encouragement and support…it means everything.
Sincerely (honestly),
Matthew Mayfield

hey everybody. 2 noteworthy things of the month:
--as many of you know, i woke up the morning of our show in birmingham with no voice. went to the ENT and he said i had acute laryngitis and it would be a 'poor choice' to sing the show. of course, i completely dismissed the advice and kindly asked for as many shots as he could give me. a little B12, a little cortisone, and a little anitbiotic then made their way through my blood stream via both butt cheeks. with a little help from jack daniels/honey/lemon...i made it...pretty rough...but i made it. thanks to everyone who came out to help me sing. here's a video of the birmingham crowd at their best:
http://www.youtube.com/v/1EU5bvBzL6M
--one more thing...'fall behind' made its television debut a little while ago on MTV's 'the Hills.' thanks to everybody who let us know they saw it. hell, we didn't even know until after it happened...so thanks for the news. here's the link if you missed it--it's towards the end of the clip:

keep it alive.

Current mood: exhausted
just got home from a few shows with our good friends NEEDTOBREATHE from seneca, south carolina...had a blast with those guys. they're out promting their new record called 'the heat'--really great rocknroll record--listen to a little at: myspace.com/needtobreathe
it's really good to be back out playing in some good old dirty clubs. don't get me wrong, i am all about a nice PA system and a plush green room...but there's something uniquely charming about a smoky bar with sticky floors and beer residue on the walls. charleston, orlando, and atlanta all had that particular vibe this weekend and i was eating it up. when you're surrounded with people you love and playing with bands you like, the insane amounts of driving and sleep deprivation seem to matter a lot less. thanks to all of you who came out and supported the team. good crowds all around. hope to see some of you at the shows this weekend...

quick rundown on what's been happening with us:
1. played a parking lot in nashville with POD. hottest show in history. 2. car pulled out in front of wil...swerved...van and trailer are totaled. he is unscathed. thank God. 3. played a festival in birmingham called city stages. 2nd hottest show in history. 4. BIG thanks to everybody who came out and endured the heat for our sake. we had a really good time at both and were surprised to see so many of you out supporting the band. 5. record labels are scary. 6. another big thanks to all of you who sang 'wonderwall' with me when the sound went out in nashville. that was community effort at its finest. 7. speaking of community...we are really grateful for every person who believes in what we're doing. you guys give us a reason to keep the band alive when everything else lets us down. thank you for singing along. 8. hope to see some of you guys in atlanta (6/24--free show) and charleston (6/28). spread the word.
stay in touch.

So, after 2 weeks, one new trailer axle, 4 new trailer tires, and 7 shows, we are finally making our exit from the great Lonestar state. We had a show yesterday in San Antonio for a radio show along with Augustana, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Katherine McPhee, and our boys in Blue October. We had a great time hanging with everyone and the guys finally got a chance to catch Augustana live for the first time. All the performances were great and we hope to play more shows with all of the acts again in the future. We tried to hire Kathering McPhee's back up singer/dancers to go on the road with us, but Matthew couldn't get the choreography down for Control, so we had to scratch the idea. The guys were excited however to play the entire set with a 30 foot wide backdrop of her face behind them the entire set, so all was good. And I am also happy to report that I finally replaced the microphone stand of Matthew's that I lost in the middle of the Pete Yorn tour, so expect many new onstage acrobatics and rock star microphone stand stunts. So, I never thought that I would be saying this, but the opportunity to go play our next 2 shows in Nebraska sounds pretty great at this juncture in time. We are finishing out our last show with Blue October tomorrow night, and then doing a few headline dates before returning to Birmingham for a few days of much needed rest. Be sure to check the calendar for some new dates in South Carolina, and a new headlining date in Birmingham. Hope to see you all soon- -Lee

Last night we had our first "headlining" show in several months in Houston, Texas. We want to send special thanks out to all in attendance at the Meridian. You are the kind of people that keep music alive--you were mighty in support. Also, thank you to the other opening bands last night, Luxurata and Sun Machine. They were both great bands and we hope to play with them again soon. After the show, we loaded out and headed to the hotel for some much needed rest. Somehow our tour manager was allowed to play a ridiculous selection of 80's songs that would have made the Breakfast Club nautious. All was redeemed once Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer began to spin. In a 7 part "harmony" the entire band, tour manager, and myself were chanting the musical banter that is what makes Bon Jovi loved by butt rockers young and old alike. Until tomorrow- Lee
