It was a very productive meeting and we've come to some focus on our mission statement, values and goals. Today is the 5th day for Moving Saginaw Forward:
We have 325 MySpace Friends! (Thank you to all!)
35 people have messaged, posted comments, or commented on our blogs saying that they want to help or will come to a meeting! Community activist spirit is still alive in Saginaw after all. We're looking at a good meeting location to accomodate at least 35 people. Keep Wednesday May 9th at 7:30 p.m. on your calendar for our first meeting, location yet to be determined. Also, we are looking at scheduling a meeting on a weekend afternoon for those people who can't make a Wednesday evening meeting. It seemed as though we might have too many people to comfortably meet at the Red Eye (especially if we get a lot more). Someone suggested that we meet at a park. Any other suggestions? QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS: What is Moving Saginaw Forward all about? What are our goals? How will we generate interest and support for our organization in the community? What kinds of things do we want to do besides the political campaign?
It's important to emphasize that at this point we have no mission statement, bylaws or any kind firm definition as to what this organization is or is not. When it was started it was launched with the idea of it genuinely being a grass-roots movement of the people to bring about positive change in the community and get people active. Post some responses, either to this blog or message them to us and we can also discuss this at the first meeting.

Okay, here is the latest on scheduling a meeting. We have gotten several responses from people. Most people have indicated that a wednesday evening seems to work out ok. A couple people, however can't meet on Wednesday evening and have suggested a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. QUESTIONS: 1. Should we hold a meeting on Wednesday evening and also another meeting on Saturday or Sunday afternoon? 2. A few people have suggested meeting at the Red Eye. Is this an acceptable meeting location for people? If so, does anyone know if anything is going on there on Wednesday evening that might conflict with our meeting? 3. What time should we meet? Does 7:30 pm sound about right? Should we meet at 8:00? The meeting should last about an hour to an hour and a half. After that, anyone who wants to stick around and keep discussing things would be welcome to do so.
We're really excited about the enthusiastic responses we've gotten from many people. Some people have shared interesting ideas. We've had about 20—so far—who've said they'd like to get involved in an active way or attend a meeting. As of 1:30 p.m. Friday we have 289 MySpace friends, and this is only our 4th day being active. Here's something amusing to discuss: Has anyone ever mailed a letter addressed to an address in "Sag-Nasty", "The Nasty", or any similar nickname for Saginaw and the postal service still was able to deliver it because they recognized the nickname for the town?
