In an effort to do our small part in a very large struggle, we've organized a food donation drive for our October 15th Terminal 5 show in New York City.  The Food Bank of New York City has been nice enough to drop donation boxes at the venue and deliver them accordingly after the show.  Whatever non-perishable food you can bring to this show will make a substantial difference. 

For people outside the NYC area who would like to help, there is a donation page set-up through FoodBankNYC to raise funds for the same cause.  That can be found here.

The food banks general manifesto is as follows:
Food Bank For New York City recognizes 25 years as the city's major hunger-relief organization. Working to end food poverty and increase access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs, the Food Bank's initiatives focus on direct services, food sourcing and distribution, nutrition and health education, financial empowerment, disaster relief and policy and research.
There are approximately four million New Yorkers who experience difficulty affording food — an astounding number and one that continues to increase as the donated food supply drops to an all-time low and food costs skyrocket. To address this issue, the Food Bank procures and distributes food to a network of approximately 1,000 food assistance programs citywide. In addition, we provide food safety and capacity-building workshops; manage school nutrition education programs, after-school and emergency food programs; conduct food stamp prescreening and outreach; operate a Senior Food Program and a soup kitchen and food pantry; coordinate the largest Free Tax Assistance Program in the country; and develop policy and conduct research to inform community and government efforts to end food poverty throughout New York City.

It is an instrumental soundtrack to a book called "Finch" by Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror author Jeff Vandermeer. He approached MBD about doing a soundtrack to go with the limited edition of his new book, and we thought it was such a strange idea we had to do it. The book reminds us of Bladerunner- with spore-faced bad guys. Bitchin'. We locked ourselves up in our friends studio (Farm Fresh) in Bloomington, IN for 5 days and wrote and recorded an instrumental album inspired by the book. We have used a lot of crazy techniques that we have never tried before on this record.  Our old pianist Vincent Edwards lent his hand(s) at the piano, organs, and Rhodes. Each song is attempting to recreate a scene or mood from the book- the release shows the page numbers in the book that correspond to each track on the CD. We are putting this out on our label Tent Show records. The pressing with be only 1000 copies. Each copy will come with a download code. Downloads will also be available for purchase as of Oct 7, 2009.

They have disbanded House Hoegbotton and are controlling the human inhabitants with strange addictive drugs, internment in camps, and random acts of terror. The rebel resistance is scattered, and the gray caps are using human labor to build two strange towers. Against this backdrop, John Finch must solve an impossible double murder for his gray cap masters while trying to make contact with the rebels. Nothing is as it seems as Finch and his disintegrating partner Wyte negotiate their way through a landscape of spies, rebels, and deception. Trapped by his job and the city, Finch is about to come face to face with a series of mysteries that will change him and Ambergris forever

We actually witnessed the baggage claim guy hurling our guitar cases (marked fragile) through the air and they still wouldn't pay us back a dime for the guitar, bass, and pedal case they broke. These people don't give a shit about you or your luggage so avoid em if you can. you've been warned.
PS: They sent me this with their rejection of reimbursement for damage. The nerve!


I should mention that everyone who were dicks to us were Americans. The baggage claim people were American dudes in Cincinnatti and the assholes I talked to on the phone were also Americans. And the truth is, all the airlines are careless and do this. They just happened to be the latest. And we happen to like the French; they're saucy, they make great movies, and their pastries are the tops!

Hey folks its Adam. I am headed into the woods by myself for a couple of weeks to write some songs. Gonna drive out into Appalachia and set up camp out in the middle of nowhere with a tent, fishing pole, guitar, and a lot of paper. I leave tomorrow morning.

I'm doing this because we tour so much that we don't have a lot of time to write. I have noticed that as bands get busier and busier they never leave enough time to themselves to just work on new material- and in the interest of keeping our songs fresh, interesting, and meaningful, I am heading out on my own. I've always written best when I am alone, bored, or lonely. This should hopefully give me a lot of new ideas, and also flush out the many tidbits of songs that have accumulated in my head over the last year or so. When I get back I'll show what I have to the band and they'll pretty much tell me whats good and what Isn't and then we'll go into full time rehearsals. If it works really well- I'll probably go out and do it again!

Anyway- wish me luck - to many songs, plentiful fish, and zero bear-maulings
