Hey folks its Adam. I am headed into the woods by myself for a couple of weeks to write some songs. Gonna drive out into Appalachia and set up camp out in the middle of nowhere with a tent, fishing pole, guitar, and a lot of paper. I leave tomorrow morning. I'm doing this because we tour so much that we don't have a lot of time to write. I have noticed that as bands get busier and busier they never leave enough time to themselves to just work on new material- and in the interest of keeping our songs fresh, interesting, and meaningful, I am heading out on my own. I've always written best when I am alone, bored, or lonely. This should hopefully give me a lot of new ideas, and also flush out the many tidbits of songs that have accumulated in my head over the last year or so. When I get back I'll show what I have to the band and they'll pretty much tell me whats good and what Isn't and then we'll go into full time rehearsals. If it works really well- I'll probably go out and do it again! Anyway- wish me luck - to many songs, plentiful fish, and zero bear-maulings Adam oh ps- I think I am gonna bring a camera and maybe a little video unit to document some of the process. Might be cool to have down the line. Lets hope it doesn't come to this.

Holy Shit! Been working all week on my cabin sawing and screwing (teehee). Made all the walls, roof trusses, screwed down the floor- lots of stuff. Ran into my first problem- we went to hang the first wall and it started to fall apart- the screws weren't long enough. So I had to go back and redo all the connections with longer bigger screws. Oh well. Now its strong like bull. Had some help from friends Nick, Alex, Dan and Grady hanging the walls the other day. Then Dagan and Matt were nice enough to come over and help install the roof trusses yesterday. I'm at a point where I can't do it all myself due to a shortage of arms and Hulk-like muscles. We got two ladders and two screwdrivers and started installing them. I was terrified that I had cut the angles on the trusses wrong but it worked perfectly! It was a great day- working in the sun, the feeling of a job well done, and the exhilerating combination of ladders and beer. The boys spent the afternoon and evening working on the cabin and Sarah cooked us a big meal- it was a very 1950s day. Guess I owe her dinner. Today I'm installing the loft support beams and then maybe if it doesn't rain I'll start putting on the walls. This is gonna be one good lookin' momma. Unfortunately its sheduled to rain for 4 or 5 days so after today I am gonna have to take a break for a bit. Oh well- I'm going to go to a baseball game tomorrow- Cincinatti Reds vs Houston Astros. Cool. Voila!

hey its Adam. Since we are not going to be on tour this summer and will be home writing, I won't be able to try new restaurants to write about for the Food Blog. So i'm building a cabin/glorified shed in my backyard. It'll be for both storing sweet things like axes, sledgehammers, gardening tools etc and also will have a loft for guests who visit us over the summer. It will have a desk for writing so I can go retreat somewhere to work on lyrics too. Gonna decorate it Twin Peaks style, taxidermy (from a friends Grandfather) and weird pictures. I'm building it from parts I found on craigs list or from local lumberyards. No Lowes/Home Depot/Big Lots. Fuck those guys. It's my dream to build my own house from the ground up some day, and this seemed like a good way to start. Its an 8x12 foot Gabled roof style, with a big loft area. To start, I got the ground ready for a foundation, which, in this case, was a bunch of cinderblocks meticulously leveled. This part was really boring but I took a long time because I wanted to make sure it was right. Then I built the frame (from pressure treated lumber) for the floor- that was more fun. I screwed in the floor, covered it with a tarp, and then went on our Canadian tour. Started up again Friday, started building the walls. Built this back wall first because I needed to establish the slope of the roof etc. Didn't have a miter saw so i had to saw all the angles by hand. That was kinda rough, but hell it's always good to exercise I guess. Since then I've built the rest of the walls but I am behind starting the journal so I will update in a few days. Can't wait to drink beer in this thing.

Omaha, NE.
Espana
OK- so this entry in the food blog is pretty late. this was a meal we had when we played Omaha, Nebraska in March. We ate at a restaurant called Espana. Its a tapas joint, and we had a bitchin' good time eating many different tasty little treats.
Crusty bread drizzled in olive oil, rubbed with tomato and served with an olive. awesome. I love olives.
Ceviche with lemon, shrimp, scallop, capers, on a bed of spinich, plantain crisps. REALLY fresh. really loved it.
Cannaloni stuffed with tuna with heavy cream sauce. Sinful and hellishly delightful.
Salty snails in a bitter garlic parsley heavy white wine sauce. Tasted meaty like a dense mushroom combined with a scallop. ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THAT HAS EVEN BEEN IN MY MOUTH.
Rabbit with tomatoes and wine sauce. NOT SO GOOD, AL. was tough and tomatoes were not fresh. bummer. otherwise this meal was killer.
Tres leches cake with apricot compote with Lemon. Drizzled in cream. Holy shit. Holy holy holy shit. Time to get fat.
PS: SARAH IS THINKING ABOUT DOING AN ANTI-FOOD BLOG! I'M TRYING TO CONVINCE HER AND I THINK ITS WORKING...
It would be a bitter review of all her most hated meals we unfortunately encounter on tour. Some may or may not be haikus...
HERE IS A TEASER WE WHIPPED UP
Get out the blender
Prepare for disappointment
It's shrimp salad time
