Current mood:  hopeful
As many of you already know, on September 26, 2009 the Philippines  were attacked by one of the most violent storms in their history. The disastrous floods have taken a toll on the land and the people. Several organizations, like MFR, have been doing their best to help out. One organization named Hands On Disaster Relief (which you can learn more about at www.HODR.org) has recorded and sent us a video of some of the experiences they have had so far while in the Philipines. Please click on the link below and see what is going on across the globe and why it is so important to help out.

Over 375,000 people have been displaced in the Philippines since tropical storm Ketsana (locally known as Ondoy) struck this weekend causing severe damage and flooding. Almost 500,000 people are said to be affected by the disaster in the Philippines and now the storm has strengthened to a Typhoon and as of Wednesday morning is affecting Vietnam and Cambodia where 50 people have been killed. Old houses in Vietnam's Hoi An city were submerged in floodwaters.

Climate talks in Bangkok turned their attention to Ketsana while discussing climate change this week. Environmental groups and developing nations consider the storm an example of the type of weather related natural disaster that poor nations could face in increasing strength and frequency as the globe warms up.

"Ketsana is clearly a manifestation of the consequences of global inaction in addressing the immediate impacts of creeping climate change," chief Philippine climate negotiator Heherson Alvarez told reporters.

Music For Relief is asking all of its supporters to do what they can and help us swiftly get aid to these people in need.

Go to www.musicforrelief.org to learn more.
