@Nanofood Special Speech
<[[[[iframe]]]] src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/27546437#27546437" frameBorder=0 width=425 scrolling=no height=339>. Below is the acceptance speech of President-Elect Barack Obama: If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.
It's the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.
It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.
I just received a very gracious call from Senator McCain. He fought long and hard in this campaign, and he's fought even longer and harder for the country he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine, and we are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. I congratulate him and Governor Palin for all they have achieved, and I look forward to working with them to renew this nation's promise in the months ahead.
I want to thank my partner in this journey, a man who campaigned from his heart and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton and rode with on that train home to Delaware, the Vice President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.
I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last sixteen years, the rock of our family and the love of my life, our nation's next First Lady, Michelle Obama. Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House. And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother is watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight, and know that my debt to them is beyond measure.
To my campaign manager David Plouffe, my chief strategist David Axelrod, and the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics - you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done.
But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to - it belongs to you. I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington - it began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy; who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep; from the not-so-young people who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on the doors of perfect strangers; from the millions of Americans who volunteered, and organized, and proved that more than two centuries later, a government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from this Earth. This is your victory.
I know you didn't do this just to win an election and I know you didn't do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime - two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor's bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair.
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America - I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you - we as a people will get there.
There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as President, and we know that government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And above all, I will ask you join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it's been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years - block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.
What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you. So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers - in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people. Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House - a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, "We are not enemies, but friends...though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn - I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.
And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world - our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear this world down - we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security - we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright - tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.
For that is the true genius of America - that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow. This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight is about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing - Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.
She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons - because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.
And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America - the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.
At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can.
When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs and a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can. When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.
She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "We Shall Overcome." Yes we can.
A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change. Yes we can.
America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves - if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?
This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time - to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth - that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: less you, and may God Bless the United States of America. http://nanofoods.blogspot.com/ http://www.perfspot.com/nanofood http://nanofood.tistory.com/ http://cafe.daum.net/nanofood http://blog.daum.net/nanofood http://blog.naver.com/hapyvirus http://www.myspace.com/nanofood

This '4th International Nanofood Forum in Beijing, China' entitled "New Technologies for Nanofood Research" was organized to highlight new and emerging technologies, including nanotechnology and proteomics in tissue engineering, and to suggest ways for their integration into nanofood research.
Speakers focused on topics that included accelerator mass spectrometry for ultra-low level radiolabel tracing, nanodevices for real-time optical intracellular sensing, mass spectrometric techniques for examining protein expression!!, as well as potential applications for nanotechnology in the food sciences. These technologies may be particularly useful in obtaining accurate spatial information and low-level detection of essential and nonessential bioactive food components (nanofoods) and their metabolites, and in enhancing the understanding of the impact of nanofood/metabolite and biomolecular interactions.
And the purpose of this forum is to study the future of food and its roles and prospects in popular culture. Future foods are an import!!ant theme in that food is not only directly connected with 'wellness' in popular culture, but also closely identified with the occult tradition and considered precursors of functional nanofoods. The INRS has developed nanofood powders for seven years. High-pressure processing and pulsed electric-field processing destroy bacteria and much else in the processed nanofood powders. This forum was showcase the applications of nanofood industry in the world. We had pleased to meet with deligates to discuss opportunities for research collaboration and commercialization for nanofood. A special thank is extended to Richard Kim, Lynn Frewer, Elisabath Namakula, Kristian Olsen, Ivan Chan, and Ho-Jun Kim of INRS for their assistance in preparing the food science perspective for this summary and the presentation at this forum.
Our executives Dr. Dong-Myung Kim (President of International Nanofood Research Society, INRS), Dr. Richard Kim (Vice President of INRS), Mr. Yung-il Kang (member of INRS & Dirctor of Apexel Co. Ltd in Korea), and Mr. David Chen (Beijing Nanotech World in China) prepared for this froum by going through the various high-tech facilities available at the Nanofood Research Society (NRS) in Korea. At this forum, deligates met with various INRS members in China, eventually compiling their experiences into a travel report that was put up on the INRS’s website (cafe.daum.net/nanofood).

In the coming months, our INRS will be looking forward to hold a guest speaker at same place in China, organize an industry tour, and execute our outreach program. Prof. Edward Lau was recently appointed our officer for outreach nanofood projects and has several ideas to further expand the variety of nanofood-related experiments for outreach. Additionally, our INRS will be working with other members and programs to organize events such as the upcoming '5th International Nanofood Forum in Beijing, China' 28th March, 2009.
The World Nanofood Conference (WNC) by INRS represents the sixth edition of this successful event series with previous events having been held in Chicago & Washington DC USA, London UK, Munich Germany, Ireland, Hongkong & Beijing Chna, Singapore and Seoul Korea. The WNC is the one comprehensive event that brings together the thought leaders in science, government, and business to discuss the entire value chain of nanotechnology’s commercial development.
Already established as an annual Nanofood Resarch Society (NRS)'s event in Korea, the WNC now comes to one of world fastest growing economies, helping delegates and exhibitors tap into each contry’s emerging rich seam of technology talent for nanofood and nanotechnology. The WNC events have been able to bring together both comprehensive program on the varied applications of nanofood technologies within industry with world-renowned speakers.
This year the first conference program of the WNC has been entirely developed by INRS, the leading consulting company on nanotechnology and its impact on industries worldwide. We look forward to seeing you this year for the 2009 NWC.

Respectable International Nanofood Research Society (INRS) members:
The 2009 New Year has started. I wish you a Happy New Year and hope for success in your work. Last year, there was upheaval related to safety issues and anti-nanofood emotions were heightened more than ever. But I wish this year that respect and love toward nanofood will be heightened.
Respectable INRS members! I am determined to make all the efforts and devotion to make INRS "from good to great"; in other words, from 1st and 2nd generation's top-down process to 3rd generation's most loved bottom-up process such as smart nanofood or nutrition delivery system (NDS). Not just in physical aspects; reformation of technolgy and consciousness has to go side by side with a position as an international nanofood business hub. I believe this is a very natural phenomenon and it is certainly needed for the future of nanofood, because equalization only exists to lower nanotechnology. 3rd generation's smart nanofood or NDS need to be differentiated for the progress of nanofood process. Good nanofood and lesser nanofood have to be established. I will reflect INRS economical power difference in government budget support standard while I am developing this nanofood project, especially in introducing the matching fund system.
Next, I will develop INRS into high-class international research society by making a 'only one INRS' in the world. I am determined to make all the efforts and devotion to make INRS into an advanced research society through the high-tech reformation movement.
Next, I will tell you about improvements about 1st and 2nd generation's nanofood on the 3rd generation's nanofood. In the future, many people will gather 100nm below in true nanofood behind 3rd generation's nanofood by improving them intensively and technically. By doing so, the 1st and 2nd generation's nanofood will enter the 3rd generation's nanofood voluntarily and solve the problems of 1st and 2nd generation's nanofood issues along 3rd generation's nanofood.
The trend of nanofood is changing from appreciation to participation in this modern INRS's nanofood technology. With improvements in 3rd generation's nanofood, members' recognition of nanofood technology has changed greatly and they want various technical experiences. In the 21st century, nanofood technology is recognized as an economic commodity and the importance of technical competitive power is increasing.
INRS will plan small and large events, seminar, workshops and partnerships to expand member's participation opportunities. INRS will be created by neighborhoods or by members and will hold various excieting events. A 10 years INRS Ceremonial Festival hosted by INRS and Russel Institute in USA is planned for this fall.
Last, I will make "sharing INRS where warm heart and love over flowing" and "respected INRS." No matter which society a person is in, that person cannot live alone. Taking this opportunity, once again I thank INRS members who sent positive support, much money, and many items for the "fund-raising campaign to help technical transfer" that was held by INRS and Russel Institute International jointly from Oct. 11 to 17, 2007.
In the future, INRS members will take the lead to send their love and warm hearts to anywhere that is waiting for INRS members' warm hearts, not only within Korea, but also beyond the borders of Korea. I will be at the head of this matter as the president. Last year, INRS held 20 times nanofood semniar for members in USA, Japan, China and Korea. We felt very much appreciation to the INRS members and perhaps they also felt much appreciation in their hearts to the INRS members who came to see them.
In the future, the warm hearts of INRS members will spread from place to place. It is my plan to send INRS's Nanofood textbooks in the world and will take part in protecting people from starvation by sending nanofood to Africa. By doing these so, we will send INRS's warm hearts to the world.
From now on, I will make more efforts for the improvement of INRS's welfare. Also, I will make INRS to progress as World's representative research society. Any one of the items that I mentioned above cannot come true without INRS members' agreement and support. I am asking for members' plentiful support from now on. I will make INRS members' pride supported by INRS members' encouragement. You also have to take a lead for this to happen. Let's make "INRS pride" together!
Happy New Year and I wish you happiness in your home.
Thank you very much.

@Dr. Kim's Liposomal Nanofood
The relation between biology and molecular nanotechnology can be denoted as molecular biology. The last few decennia developments in this area led to new therapeutical strategies which will be applied in treatment of human diseases. Delivering medicines on the right place in a human body is possible, thanks to the growing understanding of cellular recognition and transport mechanisms.
At the moment there is an approach that stands in the interest, called encapsulation of medicines or DNA. The encapsulation takes place in the double layer membrane capsule (liposome), so that the contents are protected against affection of the metabolism of a patient.
Liposomes were discovered about 30 years ago by A. Bangham and since then they became very versatile tools in biology, biochemistry and medicine.

[Structure of a liposome]
Liposomes are small artificial vesicles, which can be produced from natural phospholipids and cholesterol. The vesicles can be used as drug carriers and loaded with a great variety of molecules, such as small drug molecules, proteins, nucleotides and even plasmids. Liposomes are extremely versatile and due to the variability of their composition they can be used for a large number of applications.
The most important application is the delivery of medicines (anti-cancer remedies) at the right cells in a human body, also called encapsulation.
A special method, known as 'black hole loading' is used for the encapsulation of medicines. This method is based on creating different environments within and outside a liposome. The liposomes are prepared in a solution that creates the inner environment, after which this solution is replaced by a solution which contains the medicine. Further the solution has to be heated, so that the solution which contains the medicine enters the liposome via the membrane. When it reaches the liposome it forms a crystalline product. This means that the molecules are arranged regularly.
The method "Black hole loading" depends on the composition of the enveloped membrane and especially of the specific ligands which are attached at the outer layer of the membrane. A ligand is a cellular substance that binds to other molecules, like receptors in the human body.
The structure of the outer layer is of special interest. There are a few qualities which the structure of the outer layer needs to posses, so that the encapsulation of the medicine is at the right place in the human body. These qualities are: - It has to protect the charge of the membrane, so that the particle can move through the body. - It has to be sure that there is not an interaction between the blood of blood vessels and the charge of the membrane. At this way the particle can reach its destination. - Once the particle reaches its destination, it has to recognise it, attach to it and deliver its charge.
The encapsulation can take place when the structure of the membrane posses these qualities. However the immune system of the human body normally neutralises the liposomes once they are injected in the blood vessel. The immune system recognises these liposomes as outsiders, so it tries to 'destroy' it. Because it takes time to reach its destination, it is possible that the immune systems 'destroys' the liposomes when they have not yet reached its destination.
Once this neutralisation of the human body can be decreased, the circulation time in the human body is increased, and so the delivering system is efficient.
Scientists think that they have a solution for this problem. They have increased the circulation time of the liposomes by building in a double layer fat molecule. This fat molecule is a polyethylene-glycol group (PEG) connected to a polar leading group.
This increasing circulation time is obtained by the sterical rejection of the PEG. The PEG forms an obstacle against the unwanted removing of the liposomes.
Furthermore it is possible to connect the ligands to the PEG, so that they are built in the outer layer of the membrane, in which the medicines with charged liposomes lay. This strategy, with a specific molecular interaction, makes it possible to adjust (with medicines charged) liposomes on the individual type of cancer of the patient.

[Chemical structure of Polyethylene-glycol group]
Fat-molecules can also form complexes with DNA. In contrast to a complex with liposomes, this development is still in the experimental phase.
There have been experiments done on animals. However, the results are disappointing. The DNA-complexes are 'destroyed' by the immune system immediately when they are injected. Now scientists are searching for molecules which are more compact. The DNA-complexes have to be small enough to prevent the closing off of capillaries.
The applications of fat-molecules with DNA will mainly be corrections in cell structures, which mean they are less related to the whole organism. Before we can even think about applications, there have to be done a lot of research on animals, and maybe later on humans.
As said before, this development is still in the beginning area. The next generations of DNA-complexes will probably contain newer and better methods for the encapsulation of medicines in human bodies.

Scientists at INRS (International Nanofood Research Society) have developed a potential new treatment against plant disease that attaches gold-magnetic nanoparticles to plant disease cells, allowing them to be captured and carried out of the plantlet. The treatment, which has been tested in the laboratory and will now be looked at in survival studies, is detailed online in the Journal of the International Nanofood Research Society.
"We've been able to use gold-magnetic nanoparticles to capture free-floating plant disease cells and then take it out of the plantlet," said Dong-Myung Kim, president of the INRS. "This technology may be of special importance in the treatment of crown gall where the malignancy is typically spread by free-floating plant disease cells released from the primary gall into the stem."
The idea came to the research team from the work of Sung-Nam Cho, a Post Dr. in Seoul National University. Dr. Cho originally conceived of the idea as a means of extracting viruses and virally infected cells when his advisor, Nanofood professor Kim, had another idea. He asked if the technology could be applied to plant disease. Dr. Cho suggested it might be an effective means of preventing plant disease cells from spreading.
They began by testing the therapy on Tobacco tumor tissues. After giving the tumor cells in the tabacco a fluorescent green tag and staining the gold-magnetic nanoparticles red, they were able to apply a magnet and move the green tumor cells to the stem region.
"If the therapy is able to pass further tests that show it can prevent the crown gall from spreading from the original tumor," Dr. Cho said, "it could be an important tool in plant disease treatment."
This technology holds more promise than solely using antibodies to fight plant disease because there seems to be less potential for the plant to develop an immune response due to the unique peptide-targeting strategy, and the composition of the gold-magnetic nanoparticles.
"If you modify the nanoparticle and target it directly to the tumor cells using a small peptide, you are less likely to generate an undesirable immune response and more accurately target the cells of interest," said Dr. Kim.
In addition to testing gold-magnetic nanoparticles, the research team is collaborating with other groups at INRS to determine how peptide-directed gold nanoparticles and nanohydrogels might also be used in fighting plant disease.

Dr. DM Kim, President & Creator in INRS (International Nanofood Research Society), has just been awarded the 2008 Best Award of Nanofood Science, the nation's highest honor in the field.
Dr. DM Kim received the nation's highest honor in Nanofood Science, the 2008 Best Award of Nanofood Science. "I am very fortunate and lucky to be doing science in Korea. There are so many excellent people doing science all over this country," said DM Kim.
"I want to thank my past and present INRS members and researchers, my colleagues, the administration and staff at INRS who all helped me to do my science and get this honor. There was no limit to the support I received," he added.
Dr. DM Kim's citation reads: "For his seminal and creative contributions to our understanding of the electronic and optical properties of nanofood-materials and to their applications in 10~100 nm molecules and nano-design, for his humanitarian efforts of exchange among countries and for his role in developing the scientific leadership of tomorrow."
He will receive the award at an INRS ceremony on Nobember 14.
Currently, Dr. Kim is working with his members, of the NRS (Nanofood Research Society in Korea), to develop gold & magnetic nanoparticles (magnetic nanogold) that can bind to plant, animal, and cancer cells. Once the cells are bound to the magnetic nanogold, they scatter light, which makes them easy to detect. Using a scanning laser system, they can selectively destroy the cancer cells without harming the healthy cells. The magnetic nanogolds are tuned to a frequency that allows them to use lasers that can delve under the skin to kill cancer cells without harming the skin.
The Best Award of Nanofood Science honors individuals for pioneering nanofood scientific research in a range of fields, including physical, biological, chemical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, which enhances understanding of the world and leads to innovations and technologies that give the INRS its global economic edge.
