Hello ALL!! Sorry it has been awhile since we’ve been on this space but just to let all you know were still here. Hope all is well with the beginning of the New Year! As always were looking for people to get involved so send us a message or call our new number at 505-508-1565. .. .. We are getting ready to gear up for our next series of Native Soul Food Sessions in the months to come. So once dates are finalized look out for flyers and get your bellies ready! .. .. Also we are still working in partnership with New Mexico Voices for Children and United Way. Native Youth Voices is currently in the process of re-releasing the Native Youth Agenda; the agenda details recommendation from Native Youth to Native leaders on working to improve the live of Native youth. .. .. Native Soul Youth is also in the planning process to replant our garden and going to need all the help we can get. Also for all of you out there that many be interested we would like to start a running group. If you would like to get rid of some extra pounds from the holidays come join us! .. .. Last but not least, as a new edition to the Native Soul Youth crew, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Danielle Jackson. I am from the Navajo Nation and a current student at the University of New Mexico. I will be helping out NSY in conjunction with a fellowship from Young People For (YP4). Young People For is a leadership development program focusing on engaging and empowering young progressive leaders. UPDATES- UPDATES-UPDATES!!!
Hi Friends! Its been a while since we've updated our myspace, we hope you are all having a great summer! To get involved send us a message or call 232-9485.
-Native Soul Youth has moved into an office! We are located at 507 Washington SE, very close to Highland Highschool. We also have a new phone number and website. Phone is 232-9485 and our website is www.nativesoulyouth.org (we are still working on adding more content)
-Native Soul Youth has released it's Central New Mexico Native Youth Agenda in partnership with New Mexico Voices for Children and United way. The agenda details reccomendations from Native Youth to Native leaders on working to improve the lives of Native youth. Please look for a link soon.
-Native Soul Youth is working on putting together a delegation to travel to Los Angeles on Sept 6 to participate in a National family town hall meeting hosted by the Margurite casey foundation. If you are interested, please contact us.
-NSY planted this spring! We are working with Sanchez Farms in the South Valley on a plot filled with delicious Native crops. We are planning to have a harvest festival in the fall to celebrate our first year with this effort. Many Thanks to Sanchez Farms and Native Seed SEARCH.
- Native Soul Youth recently recieved a 10,000 grant from the McCune Charitable Foundation for our work. We look forward to continuing our work and thank the Foundation for its support.
-What happened to our Native Soul Food Sessions?? LOL, its been busy and with school out we took a little hiatus. School is almost back in session and it's time for us to dust off our recipies and get cookin'! We would like to get back together on Thursday August 7 6:00 pm to talk about acitives in the coming year, going to LA and a putting together an NSY "back to school" fundraiser. Come and check out our new digs and feed your soul with some red chili lamb stew and tortillas. Hope to see you there!

Hi Friends, We hope you are having a great spring! We are taking surveys of our Native Youth community to strengthen our work and would like to hear from you! For your time spent filling out the survey completely we would like to offer our thanks in the form of a movie pass to Century 24 theatres to use when you like. Please fill out the survey and send it to us along with a message to set up a time before MAY 23 to obtain your free movie pass. The following questions are what Native Soul Youth has come up to further assist our target community better, which is YOU. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to the development and implementation of our services to be a success. Ahead of time, we at Native Soul Youth give our thanks! 1.) What part of the city are you from? If you don't live in the city what community are you from? 2.) Native Soul Youth is committed to addressing the issues you see in your community. In your community, what need would you like NSY to help address in your community? 3.) Native Soul Youth plans to have cultural activities in the community, please tell us what you always wanted to do or see from an organization like NSY. For example, sweat lodge for youth, traditional dance..etc. 4.) NSY wants to provide mentoring opportunities to Native Youth. Have you ever had a mentor before? a.) If no, did you ever want one or want to be one? b.) If yes, what was the experience like & tell us why it made it a positive or negative experience. 5.) Are you fluent in a Native language? 6.) What is your proficiency level in your Native language? 7.) Are you interested in learning or learning more of your Native language? 8.) NSY wants to engage & encourage wellness in different areas. Please let us know what areas you see need attention in your community & life. For example, would you like to have a running club? A community garden? Better-communication skills? Help getting into school-UNM, CNM etc. 9.) How would you like to see NSY working with your tribal community & tribal government? 10.) Do you know of any other community organizations that you would like NSY to collaborate with? 11.) What topics ever interested you in regard to Native advocacy issues? Yet, never got to ask about it or understand better? 12.) Have you ever participated in any advocacy organizing in your community? If so, what? 13.) Hi folks, Please join NSY this Saturday as we prepare our plot on Sanchez farms. We are excited to be planting this year and celebrating the history and traditional ties that planting offers our community and exercising our sovereignty over our food and bodies. Bring your chile, beans, and melon seeds and what ever else you'd like that will grow in our beautiful dessert climate! This plot has been graciouly donated to us by the Sanchez Farms! Also bring shovels and other field tools that will be useful, there is water access from the ditch nearby. We will be meeting Saturday,May 10th at 3pm at Sanchez farm, or if you need a ride, E-mail us or give us a call and we would be happy to arrange a car poolwith you. Come participate in the way of life that kept our ancestors alive for centuries and with the high price of grains it wouldn't hurt to have a storage of beans in your pantry. Hello friends, We hope you are all well and enjoying this beautiful spring weather! This is to let you know that NSY is holding a workshop this week on Wednesday April 2. Our focus this week is on community organizing and ways we can take action to strengthen our communities. We will be welcoming local organizers to talk about their work and experiences with grassroots campaigns and get out the vote activities. We will also be conducting an "organizing 101" session covering basics to getting started on any campaign or taking on an issue in your community. This promises to be an informative and motivational presentation for anybody that wants to make a difference! We hope to see you there. We also encourage our high school friends to represent- all high school participants will get an NSY T-shirt. NSY hands on "Nutrition in Native communities" workshop Weds
Hello again friends,
As we promised, our workshops will continue as scheduled! We are excited to have our very own Towana Yepa presenting this week on Nutrition in Native communities. This fun workshop will explore ways we can incorporate healthy traditional food back into our diets and recipies to take home. We will be trying out a couple different twists on frybread- with blue cornmeal and whole wheat. Its good trust us...;) Also we will be sending participants home with some organic native produce- so please DO try this at home! We encourage our high school friends to represent- all high school participants will get an NSY T-shirt.
