Just a quick one to say that two of the new EP tracks are now streaming on our site and at Myspace:

www.myspace.com/nedcollette - Murdoch quality

The first is a song I recorded solo in September, the second is a cover of the Broadcast song "Come On Let's Go," which was commissioned by www.cokemachineglow.com for their Fantasy Covers Podcast of the last decade - ie. They ask a bunch of their favourite artists to cover something they like from the last decade. I don't think that podcast is up yet, but keep your eye out - there's actually a great cover of "The Country With A Smile" on it by Chicago band Roommate.

Details about the release of "The Pool Is Full Of Hats" EP to come soon.

God it's the 1st of February... what on earth happened to January? Last I remember it was Christmas and I was dancing to Stelios Kazantzidis.

Actually we did precisely two things in January. We went to Taggerty and recorded a few new things, and we supported Joanna Newsom at The Forum here in Melbourne. The latter was great - our first and hopefully not last time on that stage... very agreeable. Oh I also played solo with The Handsome Family at the Prince, which was nice - good to strap on the solo boots again after a while, and something I am going to have to get used to again soon. But before getting carried away with that...

We have a whole bunch of shows coming up over the next month, and these will actually also be our last in Australia for the year as I'm heading off to Berlin at the end of March and the band is joining me in May to tour Europe again. So here's the obligatory "last chance to see" sentiment, followed by the dates:

First up we have a Thursday night residency at the Edinburgh Castle in Brunswick starting this week. Some of you may have seen us do this gig before - two sets, free in the front bar etc. It's great. Home turf. We'll be playing stuff from the last album, but also a couple of new things and some reworkings of the old... Ben might even sing a song by one of his favourite bands. Starts this Thursday the 4th at 8pm, 681 Sydney Rd, Brunswick. Come along, charge your glasses if you still drink. Then come again next week. Here's a facilebook event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=260401960770&ref=mf

We have some choice side things happening as well. The 19th sees us supporting a London duo called Joe Gideon & The Shark - a gig I was really happy to be asked to do as I actually loved their album from last year. It's called Harum Scarum and as well as featuring the immortal line "then I went a bit spastic like Lars Von Trier" the slower stuff reminds me a little of Rand & Holland. That's at the East Brunswick Club and you can get tickets here. Check 'em out here.

The 20th sees us do two shows - the first is the Applecore Backyard Festival in Thornbury, and features Dave McCormack, the legendary Crow, Alphabethead from NZ, Teeth & Tongue, East Brunswick All Girls Choir and more. I believe we'll be on around 5.30. It's a great day - more info here. After that we'll be heading over to the Northcote Social Club to play with our great mate Bachelorette from New Zealand. You must know about her by now... a true original. Buy tickets now.

Finally we're doing a thing called 'Last Day Of Summer' at the NGV on Sunday Feb 28. Don't know a whole lot about that yet but we'll keep you posted.

And finally finally, though this is a way off, March 20 will see us playing a huge going away party/show with a whole bunch of other bands at a venue/space to be announced.... I mean I know where it is and who's playing, but I don't know if you're supposed to yet... y'know, everyone's still on holiday etc. Way to build the tension -  we'll let you know all the details soon. It will be big. Keep it free.

So that's the rub, except to say that the material we recorded in Taggerty is going to go towards a digital/available at shows only EP which Dot Dash will be putting out in late Feb - maybe in time for our last show at the EC. It's called The Pool Is Full Of Hats and it features a couple of new band tracks, one of which is a cover of a great Broadcast song, a solo fantasy-techno-folk outing from me and a couple of remixes by James Cecil of Super Melody and the mysterious Spiderface. It'll be just like The Cure Mixed Up - more details very soon. Actually if you want to hear a couple of tracks from it tune in to Transference on 3RRR tomorrow at 6pm - I'll be in having a chat with Clem. 102.7fm in Melbourne or stream at www.rrr.org.au

Until then, cheerio.

Look it's got absolutely f**k all to do with Christmas really, but this Friday is the last Wirewalker show for the year. We're not going far, we'll be doing a couple of shows in January - though both supports for big expensive American cars, I mean, acts... and a couple more of our own shows before heading back to Europe in March, BUT, this Friday at the Old Bar will be good:

Ned Collette + Wirewalker - midnight
Margins - 11pm
Matt Bailey Band (possibly now known as Jupiter/Mercury - killer either way) - 10pm
Tom Lyngcoln (plays in the Nation Blue) - 9pm
DJ Montenegro

The Old Bar - 74-76 Johnston St, Fitzroy
Doors 8.30, $10

The Old Bar - it's small, local, and just the sort of place to wind up this decade of five billion gigs, which probably isn't actually the end of the decade so enough with the lists and the lies people. I guess in another ten we wont be so far off Bladerunner after all, perhaps sans the replicants and flying cars and colonies on Mars but almost certainly with the choking, tropical, interminably brown weather. And hopefully just as much saxophone.

Tickets are now available for the Handsome Family at the Prince on January 13, where I will be supporting solo: http://www.princebandroom.com.au/gigs/info/the-handsome-family-usa

And also there's just one more day to vote for 'Come Clean' in the Rage Top Fifty videos of the year. I don't presume to actually believe it's one of the best fifty videos of the year, and I can't bear all this voting rubbish really, but I am a hypocrite, a bet hedger and a scoundrel of the highest order, so vote: http://www2b.abc.net.au/votecentral/Client/PlaceVote.aspx?E=55&IX=0&IG=13

And finally, for European friends and fans we are now starting to lock in dates for another tour in May - more to come.

Merry nuts.

And so we've almost reached the end of this little tour...

NSW was all trials and tribulations, brain melting heat, calm blue oceans, drunk bogans, good company, small crowds, and an exploded van for the admirably stoic Teeth & Tongue.

But now we're home, just, minus a little bit of gear, and ready to reset for the Northcote Social Club on Friday. Heinz is coming back down from Brisbane - he's really worth catching - Teeth & Tongue sound great and I've really been enjoying singing a song with them, and we're us, plus Jess from them on keys for a bit.

Tickets are apparently selling fast, so depending on how you like to roll, you can either buy tickets now or hang back and try your luck on the door:

Friday 27th November:

Ned Collette + Wirewalker
Teeth & Tongue
Heinz Riegler

Northcote Social Club - 301 High St, Northcote
Doors 8.30pm
Tickets: www.northcotesocialclub.com or 9486 1677

Saturday is our first ever trip to Tasmania - at The Alley Cat in Hobart with T&T and special opener also from Melbourne, Potential Falcon. Really looking forward to that, so if you know anyone down there please let them know:

Saturday 28th November

Ned Collette + Wirewalker
Teeth & Tongue
Potential Falcon

Alley Cat - 381 Elizabeth St, North Hobart
From 9.30pm
Tickets on the door

In other news, we have now made available to the public two more videos made on our last trip to Europe - one is a 12 minute documentary of sorts - or more an almagamation of live bits with songs from the new album and some beautiful camera work and general filmmaking from Natalie, which you can see here: http://www.vimeo.com/6791047

And the other is an impromptu clip she made for "Aspect" basically out of footage that didn't find a home elsewhere. It's subtle and slow and we like it a lot: http://www.vimeo.com/6754156

Speaking of videos, it is actually possible to vote for the "Come Clean" clip in this year's Rage Top 50 - please do so if you can, here: http://www2b.abc.net.au/votecentral/Client/PlaceVote.aspx?E=55&IX=0&IG=13 Scroll down to us, check the box, scroll to the bottom, add to shortlist, scroll back to the top, check the box on the right, click next, enter your details, click send, wait for confirmation email, click link in confirmation email, done. JESUS CHRIST DON'T BOTHER.

For all our non-Australian followers, the album is now available worldwide on iTunes, with two bonus out-takes - and they're good: http://itunes.apple.com/au/album/over-stones-under-stars/id335698800

And finally, the ever astute www.cokemachineglow.com have reviewed the new record, and as they have been doing since Jokes & Trials they treat us very favourably: http://www.cokemachineglow.com/record_review/4935/nedcollette-overthestones-2009

That's the news, hope to see you at the shows.

Hello all,

Very quick reminder for New South Welsh men and women that we're heading up your way this weekend for two shows. First show of the tour in Adelaide last weekend was fantastic and thanks to all those that came. The whole trip was action packed - encounters with the police, extreme heat, the stunning mediocrity of Tiger Airlines, a great show and witnessing a fight in Hungry Jacks to cap it all off. Now it's time for the much more appealing drive up the coast:

Friday 20th Nov - Bateman's Bay - North St Cafe & Bar w. Teeth & Tongue
Saturday 21st Nov - Sydney - Raval (upstairs at the Macquarie Hotel) w. Teeth & Tongue

Pre-sale tickets are now available for the Sydney show (http://www.moshtix.com.au/event.aspx?id=30616), and it might be an idea to book as the venue is quite small. Really looking forward to getting on the road with Teeth & Tongue, and Jess from that band has learnt our keyboard parts so it will be the full hi-fi experience.

In other news, the always excellent 3RRR FM here in Melbourne has bestowed Album Of The Week upon the new album, for which we are truly thankful, though I should also point out that RTR FM in Perth led the charge by doing the same thing over there a few weeks back, so thanks to them also. Very honoured in both cases.

That's all for now. Tour finishes in Melbourne and Hobart the following weekend, so after that you will have a break from this insessant spam.

Hello all,

Our Australian tour begins this Friday in Adelaide. It's going to be 39 degrees there. That's too hot. It's so hot that Laura Jean's car fell apart in anticipation and now she's not coming. Good onya Adelaide. Luckily for you you have a band named the Keepsakes who have dashed in at the last minute to open proceedings and lend us all their gear. We had a rehearsal last night. It's sounding good but it's too bloody hot, even in Melbourne. It's only November. Jesus. Only three months 'til Berlin. Happy birthday by the way. Here's a photo of us waiting to start rehearsal last night - look how hot it looks:

Joe's laughing at my outback tour guide get up and Ben is gazing into the mystical orb. It's too hot to make sense. I'm going to go and buy some sneakers. Joe's gonna come too. We're actually going to walk in the hotness.

Here's the tour dates with links to relevant tickets. You should buy tickets now before they sell out. Go on:

Fri 13th Nov - Adelaide*, Metro. Tickets from Oztix
Fri 20th Nov - Bateman's Bay, North St Bar
Sat 21st Nov - Sydney, Raval. Tickets from Moshtix
Fri 27th Nov - Melbourne, Northcote Social Club. Tickets from NSC or (03) 9486 1677
Sat 28th Nov - Hobart, Alley Cat.

For those of you that haven't yet seen, there have been a couple of really stellar reviews of the new album. Hats off to Shaun Prescott at Mess & Noise and Ben Gook at The Vine for not only liking the album, but for having an uncanny understanding of what was behind writing and making it in the first place. Better than I did anyway...

Finally, for those of you living in the mighty mighty USoA, we've just been informed that the new album will be available there on iTunes on the 17th of November. Not quite sure what the delay was, but that's the date to look out for. Of course some of you might have already done gone done the bandcamp thing - whole album for only 10 Aussie dollars, which is basically 10 US dollars now, so I believe.... here:

Right. It's dumbly hot, and yes.... the fan just died. See you on the road (in the touring sense, not the Cormac McCarthian sense, though I'm beginning to wonder....).

Hello friends,

This is just a note for all you facebook crazed individuals that yes, there is finally a Ned Collette + Wirewalker facebook page. I held off for a long time because I thought it meant having to accept fake drinks and talk about how angry I get when my socks don't match etc... but it turns out you can start a sort of one way propaganda machine which suits me just fine:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ned-Collette-Wirewalker/159801938809

Join up - become a fan - revel in the existence of us at every port of social networking call. By god how we will network! Seriously though, it will just be for updates of the usual stuff, and perhaps some smaller stuff that doesn't warrant entire mailouts. Come along.

Look, here's a credible website agreeing that I am deeply troubled and despotic. Fucking great.

Hey, the "Come Clean" film clip showed twice here on Australian TV on the weekend - both times on Rage, and once at 10am on Saturday morning. Take that emo kids.

See you on Facebook lol zomg.
