So. This past weekend I was asked to judge the REMIX COMPETITION in Fort Collins. Now I knew a lot of the artists except one. Some I have worked with some I havent. I was 1 of three judges in the competition and even though I knew alot of people, those who know me and my business sense know that i am ALWAYS FAIR and HONEST.
Now I didnt talk to the other 2 judges because I felt it was best to use my own mind and critique each artist as if I didnt know them at all. As you should. And that is EXACTLY what I did. Some folks were good mic wise, but weak on other things like getting the crowd involved, UTILIZING the crowd, knowing how to use a mic properly to get the best sound. THE IMPORTANT stuff.
So now I hear, that people who participated and didnt win are upset, calling the judges CHEATERS, setting up the winners, etc. Are you serious? I have two words for those who are complaining. SORE LOSERS.
So for those of you reading this and complaining, etc. Get at me and i will GLADLY tell you what I personally scored you on, WHY I scored you that way and HOW u can IMPROVE. Hmmm. maybe i should send people copies of the film.....
See my music background, I been doing this for a very long time. I was an MUSICIAN who PERFORMED, etc. So I am pretty sure I have a good idea of what it takes to move a crowd.
If you worked hard, and you did ur best, thats all you can ask for. If you cant take criticisim, you cant CONGRATULATE those who worked just as hard (if not harder) as u did, maybe music is not for you.
Am I being a jerk? Nope. Being HONEST. We took time out our schedules, ( I drove 5 hours to do this gig, took time off from work) and we cheated? People need to get real. The best winners won for each category. All three artists did what they had to do to OUTSHINE the competition. BOTTOM LINE.
and what is so funny, everyone was giving love to each other, commending each other on successes, etc. But then the outcome didnt come folks way.....hmmmm. So much for the HIP HOP LOVE in the community.
Now, again, feel free to get at me and i will share my votes. As for the others, I didnt talk to them, i dont know what they scored, but like i said, the best won. Even if I wasnt a part of it, i still think the outcome would have been the same. Believe me, I wont miss it.
