Available in Both a Limited Edition CD+DVD Deluxe Edition or
DVD-only, CD-only Configurations Mixed in 5.1 on November 3

New York (October 23, 2009) – On November 2 at 11 p.m. ET, Fuse, the national music network, will televise the worldwide premiere of Nirvana Live at Reading, the band’s legendary, never-before-released 1992 Reading concert. The show, marking  the first time that Nirvana fans will experience the epochal August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at UK’s Reading Festival, will debut as an hour long broadcast the night before the limited edition 90 minute CD+DVD Deluxe Edition is by Geffen/UMe.

Featuring 25 songs including “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “All Apologies” and “Come As You Are,” Nirvana’s performance at Reading ranked No. 1 in Kerrang Magazine’s “100 Gigs That Shook The World” chart and was voted as “Nirvana’s No. 1 Greatest Moment” by fans in a recent  NME poll.

“Fuse is excited to provide Nirvana fans with the first opportunity to witness this historic music event since the concert 17 years ago,” said David Weier, vice president, programming, Fuse.  “Not only are we airing a highly anticipated, never-before-seen concert in more than 65 million homes, we are providing Nirvana’s loyal fan base with companion programming for a comprehensive and unique viewing experience.”

Leading up to the premiere of Nirvana Live at Reading, Fuse will air “Loaded: Nirvana,” a half-hour of Nirvana’s greatest music videos at 10 p.m. ET, followed by “Videos That Rocked the World: Smells Like Teen Spirit,” a celebration of the legendary music video which was a breakthrough for music, entertainment, culture and society.

While the show’s centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until 2 years later on In Utero: "All Apologies,” “Dumb,” and in its first ever public performance, “tourettes." The career-spanning setlist also reached back to the band’s 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for “Blew,” “About A Girl,” “School,” “Negative Creep” and first single “Love Buzz,” and even further back to the mid-‘80s for “Spank Thru.”  Other songs from the ....Reading.... set would appear in studio form on the Incesticide compilation later in the year: “Aneurysm,” “Been A Son” and “Sliver.”  Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound– “The Money Will Roll Right In” by Fang and “D-7” by The Wipers.

Nirvana Live at Reading will be issued in a limited edition CD+DVD Deluxe Edition as well as DVD-only and CD-only configurations mixed in 5.1 on November 3, 2009, followed by a 2-LP version on November 17, 2009. For more information visit, www.hereisnirvana.com.

Nirvana's Reading 1992 Gig Could Have Been a Disaster
By Krist Novoselic in I Heard This, Krist Novoselic

Click here to read on Seattle Weekly

In a few weeks Nirvana will release the
Reading Festival concert. It was filmed in 1992 by Japanese television and has only been available in low-fi / resolution bootleg. We watched the show late last year and it rocked so much we come to the conclusion that it should be officially released.

Reading 1992 was a triumph for the band, but it could have been a disaster. We were headlining a huge festival and the appearance was preceded with many rumors that we weren't going to make it - or if we did, we'd blow it.
We were aware of this. So we made a joke. Music journalist Everett True pushed Kurt out on stage in wheelchair. I tried to say a few words as part of the joke - but somehow got all frozen. Not even the beer could loosen me up. Oh yes - the whole gag was funny. Yess Funnee? HAW HAW - Oh those feelings inside!
Anyway, the gag worked only because the band rocked intensely for the whole show. It was like what would happen at a Nirvana rehearsal. We'd show up with all these problems under the surface, but once we started playing it transported us to a place that felt right. Rock as therapy.

Reading has a lot of musical warts, but instead of doctoring the playing in the studio, we left it alone. What you hear is what you get. Nathaniel Kunkel did great work on the mix. It's a blast to listen in 5.1.
I think the show was such a success because of the audience. They gave so much that it was easy to swat it back. The best moment is the crowd sing-a-long to "Lithium."

I'm happy to have moments like Reading to look back on in my Nirvana memories!

Marking the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana’s debut album, Sub Pop will re-issue the Platinum Certified Bleach on November 3, 2009. This expanded CD/double-LP will include a never-before-released live performance, special packaging and the first run of the double-LP will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl). Both formats will be available for pre-order here at subpop.com leading up to this edition’s release.
Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle’s Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of ‘89 and remains unequivocally/unsurprisingly Sub Pop’s very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of their 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently Bleach went on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This 20th Anniversary Edition has been re-mastered from the original tapes at Sterling Sound in a session overseen by producer Jack Endino.

This edition will include an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9th, 1990 show at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Oregon. The show features performances of “Love Buzz,” “About a Girl” and a cover of The Vaselines’ song “Molly’s Lips” and has been re-mixed from the original tapes by Endino (complete track listing below). A 52-page CD /16-page LP booklet which includes candid photos of the band not previously released to the public will also be included in this deluxe edition.
