Well hello! we've just embarked on a UK tour with 7 dates round England and Scotland and it was awesome tour great job! we met loads of really brilliant people (thanks brilliant people). We have recently reduced our line up and also had 3 new songs to test out on the road so were keen to gauge the reaction of crowds elsewhere, and from what we can gather things went down like a storm!

- sat 18th we started with a squat (491 Gallery) in London in leytonstone where we played to a crowd who all loved to dance at any age, there were definitely a few kids and elderly folk amidst the scenesters moving like they meant it. highly recommended gig venue for those who go to london to play shows, check it out; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/491_Gallery

- We left on Sunday morn for the Lake stage at Latitude festival where we had a very pleasant dressing room equiped with stocked bar and food which was heavenly. On stage we were introduced by Huw Stephens and we really enjoyed playing the show (see video below), luckily for us it started raining a little as we were about to come on and so loads of people gathered under the canopy of the stage for shelter and ended up loving the dance vibes, thanks to Olli and Huw (and Steve Lamacq) for the big ups on our forthcoming Maidavale session and the radio plays, we were really chuffed with how things seemed to happen in tandem with us moving around the place. At Latitude we also had a chance to catch Casiokids, Thom Yorke, !!!, The Vaselines and a bit of the Gossip before settling down for an unforgettable night's sleep in a tent, or near a tent  :-)

-  monday morning we then headed back to london for a show in 93 Feet East where we played after eating many bagels from the fabulous bagel shops of brick lane (video below)

- then off to a subversive beer den in Derby where we were treated very well (thanks Callum and Red) and once we convinced the manager to turn the bright white interior lights off, the sultry dance urchins emerged from the static high-brow math-rock fans and the dance party began!, even the math rock fans struck wild poses.

- to Leeds next where we met up with sexy Rich who took us to the cavernous Royal Park Cellars where we played a great show with a couple of nice bands, particularly S.A.A.P.S.S who debuted that night and showed exciting potential.

- In Edinburgh we had the first ever experience of playing in the middle of a club night. Jim (our new joint-best-friend along with Rich from Leeds) stuck us on at 1.30am in Cabaret Voltaire on a club night and it was savage! with the way our beats and persistent double bass action is at the minute it worked very well for wired-drunk dance urchins who spewed their lungs out and made the place actually drip with sweat. If anyone has any footage of this and reads this please upload it or send us a picture - that was insane..

- Next night we played in Sneaky Pete's, a really great little custom venue in Edinburgh where Times New Viking had played recently. We played a short set and were kind of relieved to be first on and enjoy watching other bands and have a few drinks that night. We stayed in a flat that night where our friends seb and sheena had moved in for a month and experienced a couple of the freakiest cats we'd ever seen, here's a picture of one of them;

crazy cat

Good fucking times.. more of that to be done sooner than later! Well, we have a good few gigs lined up around ireland at various festivals and venues over the next month so come and dance with us if you can, plus we're gonna be focused on making these new songs come alive in the studio and taking things further into the depths of kraut-dance-noise-band than we've ever been before, so watch this space for our take on awesome music great job.

Hey everybody! Hola from Barcelona! We're all here to see some kick ass shit at Primavera Sound. Yey! Some news then................... The single launch for Aye Yo Pa / IYOUUSIT is on the 12th June in the Stiff Kitten Belfast, with Abedisi Shank and Lafaro on the bill. We're pretty excited about that. IF our vinyl manufacturing people can pull production in to high gear to deliver our lovely 7 inches on time they will be on sale on the night. BUT we will be selling some very nice limited edition CD versions of the single with some cool remixes on there too! The single will be available to download digitally at the end of June. We'll keep you posted on that. You should all check out the cool remix that Mark Lam did for IYOUUSIT here: MARK LAM MYSPACE Hopefully more to follow. Now off to see day one of amazingness. Bo! Here's a wee somethin' somethin' about ussuns in

...And again for those of you without my lasermagnivision:

"Belfast Band Not Squares are quite simply the best band we've heard in ages. I spoke to Keith Winter:

Cap Pas Cap have been in my top three for a long time now, and Not Squares were the first band in a long time to gimme the same buzz when first hearing them/you, how did you first hook up with CPC? Howd the gigging together go? Any collaborations/fun stuff in the pipeline??

A few of us have played with and got to know members of CPC when we
were in different bands before Not Squares. When we formed last year
and began looking for links to play Dublin shows we were really keen to
play with them so we got in touch. Gigging together was great, we
played at their 12" launch in the Twister Pepper in December 2008.
There has been serious talk about plans for a split 7", hopefully this
comes to fruition within the year! We're also big fans of Richter
Collective bands BATS and Adebisi Shank and would love to play more
shows with them in the near future. On the 12th March we are playing
Twisted Pepper in Dublin and on the 12th June we're playing with
Adebisi Shank in the Stiff Kitten on Belfast with hopefully more to be
announced.

There's very developed 'scenes' in both the North and South of Ireland, yet seemingly not much awareness of each other or collaborations. Do you agree with that? If so, why do you think this is? Is it changing? How best should we go about changing it?

There have always been points of overlap between the Northern and
Southern scenes but not nearly enough. Most notably, the warzone
collective was a hub of punk and DIY that equally welcoming to bands
from all over Ireland – this was always obvious in the line-up and
attendance of Warzonefest. Since its closure there seems to be a void
of communication between the two scenes; in particular Belfast and
Dublin do not have an obvious cultural exchange, they are so physically
close yet in people's minds still so divided/separated. I think it's an
attitude which has come from top down and needs to be broken bottom up.
It does seem to be changing slowly with local promoters billing acts
from both scenes on the same nights much more than they used to. If
bands from both scenes continue to make the efforts and travel to play
gigs then the feeling of hospitality and exchange will only increase.
It would be encouraging to see music press and blogs, festivals and
labels make large leaps to ignore the border and treat the island as
one scene. The entrepreneurial spirits of self-funded promoters such as
Skinny Wolves in Dublin and Ordinary Days in Belfast are two good
examples who provide a strong crossover of communication between the
scenes. Personally speaking, we have no problem feeling as local in
Dublin as we do in Belfast and are keen to play everywhere we can in
Ireland asap!

NME were actually on the money for once in their review of you, but then went on to say the image of 'semtex and suicide' prevades but ultimately results in 'utterly life affriming' music from the North. What do you think of that assertion?

That is a pretty general assertion but it's an understandable one when
Belfast has been bearing the 'underdog' cross for so long. However, it
does remind me of the visceral reaction people in the North have of
defending the country at any point when they feel people are verbally
attacking it! It's quite funny but is definitely a tired old
reactionary road to go down. Yes there has been a tarnished image of
the North but that is ancient history and actually has evolved it into
an interesting animal. It is no longer an excuse, instead it should be
an opportunity. There is a feeling of wildness and occasion in the
North outside of the normal indie aspirations where we feel a new wave
of emerging acts can share their exploratory music and fresh ideas in
an inclusive manner, acts such as Kicks Blue, What What, JL Seagull,
Girls Names and BEW to name but a few. This open community of bands is
what we would promote as 'the North' to the rest of Ireland if we had
to do such a thing. This is separate even from bands like ASIWYFA and
Panama Kings who have been trailblazing an active 'just do it' attitude
amongst a thriving indie scene.

As for utterly life-affirming musical results, that is an interesting (if not a little sweeping) statement, but funnily enough it kind of describes our underlying motivation as Not Squares; our music may be inculcated with some anger, some heartache and some downright filthy crime, but it is aiming to promote positivity and affirm to others the life we feel as we make it.

What do you think of assertions?

Not big fans of assertions. Rather do than say, or 'Say by Do'?

Magazine interviews. Necessary evil, or a perk?

Perky. It is refreshing to be asked interesting and challenging
questions like these ones that challenge us on what is important.
