The DMMC really put on a nice event this year at the Hotel Fort Des Moines. LBF featured an all-Iowa lineup with two simultaneous stages. All the bands were great, although Billy from Floodplane stole the show with his stylish white tanktop.
Mr. Baber's Neighbors capped things off nicely with several additional Neighbors in the mix

A lovely time was had by all, thanks for coming out everyone! P.S. The showers at Hotel Fort Des Moines are reminiscent of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer buys the black market showerhead designed for circus animals. Worth the price of a night's stay right there.

There are rumors of a third episode, so I should re-post the first two. To those who say they are not funny, and that some of the characters don't really look like the band members, I say: "Fook, you tree-climbing assclown - I didn't ask you." OK, he's totally right but its just stupid enough to be posted one more time! I mean look at the Fook character - the cartoonist really captures the Fookness I

(above: Country Boy Shag creates fire to warm family of wandering keyboardist)
I am pleased to report that Shaggy has taken to the farm life like a fish to water. Its like some agricultural Uptopia, some might even call it a Collective. But no need for a new Red Scare, this is no fringe-living wook - we're talking about a true American pioneer here. Drummers were seen harvesting morels and eating food free of taxation. Shag's chickens are growing into voluptuous hens and sizable cocks. Well done shaggy. I like them well done, on wheat. With a little Jiimmy sauce. Any eggs yet? Let's sell them by the roadside and hawk a few OD t-shirts and scramblers at Waka!

Fook prepares to rock
Here's one of the other 6 bands, "Gimikk"

Another band, Standing Damaged

Duff busts out "The Obsidian's Dream Point"

Fans show off the latest Obsidian's Dream fashions

The Rev in the house.
We busted out a brand new song ("Living on the Fringe)" and Shaggy nearly busted his head, but made it home with only minor damage.
What can you say about Boone's newest venue, aptly named "The Venue"? Its big, really big. The stage is gigantic. Thanks for coming out Faithful friends, and nice to meet all you other bands - it was a really fun night.

O.D.'s St. Patty's Day Weekend by Tinkle McIvory While alas, there was no pot o' gold at the end of the the two-day party, but the boys slid down the rainbow of rock with Celtic abandon, as if there were Leprechauns wrestling in green Jello on the other side.
According to Heddy McJams, who attended both shows, "Ole Fook he ain't Irish, but after a pint of green bud light or three - he might just brandish his Shelayee and show you the cut of his jib! Obsidian's Dream rocks me face off!"

3-16-2007 People's - Ames, IA Many Irish eyes were a smilin' when People's intrepid soundman when drove the snakes out of his awesome system and things got underway with a groovin' set from Dr. Gonzo. Check them out, a great funky/jazzy jam outfit from D.M. They played one of my favorite songs - Spirits in the Material World by the Police. Thanks Doc!
In the spirit of the Holiday - Shag tore into Booze Me Up and Get Me High by Ween to start the OD set. From there on out it was just fantastic fun, there's not much more to say than that! Big thanks to bandmates, Peeps crew and attendees alike, it was better than a bathtub full of Lucky Charms! One of my personal all-time favorite shows.
3-17-2007 Water Street Bar and Grill - Cambridge, IA Now here's where the tale takes a weeee strange turn as our bus broke down and non-heady vibes seemed about to prevail.
Shaggy McPeepants dances a jig in the Cambridge mud.
But fter a wobbly first set at Water Street (a friendly smalltown establishment in Cambridge), suddenly ole St. Pat himself looked down upon the assembled faithful...and smiled.
Obsidian's McDream was then born in a torrent of green ale, and thusly the roadweary crew joyfully spewed forth their frothy jams upon their assembled friends - fresh and clean as a whistle!
Highlights: Lots of covers tonight
Impromtu "Friend of the Devil" by request. Make that by demand. Whoever you are, Mr. Shouting Deadhead Guy, thanks for adding a great song to the repetoire.
"Rider" with Shaggy's Irish McVocals, Celtic accordian and a reggae jam. Wow that green beer really works.
"Hey Joe" went completly otherworldly.
The return of "Empty".
An Obsidian's Dream first: One female patron threw a bra at Shaggy onstage as predicted in the lyrics of the extended version of Family Vacation. Apparently the drummer was re-inacting a scene from "Weird Science" later in the evening because I'm pretty sure he was wearing it for a hat at about 1:45.

Thanks to all you new faces and old friends, we hope you had as good of time as we did, and we'll see you down the Ole Plank Road!

Well thanks everyone, the cold kept many a hardy soul at home that Tuesday night, but OD got the nod and won the Ames edition of the Waka Winter Classic. But better than that, what a great night of music in Ames! Melodie Profitt - I missed their show, heard they were cool - DM band Sour Diesel Band - fantastic 3-piece jazz rock from DM, some nice keyboard wizardry, fearless bass, and tight drums Hunab brought a lot of folks from IC, along with a huge amount of energy Solution kicked ass, there's a band you'll hear of again. From S.Dakota. Then there was some band of called Obsidian's Dream: Thanks for voting OD! for a Wook in Every Tent!! See you at Wakarusa this June - great lineup - MMW, Yonder, N Miss Allstars, WSP and who knows what else they will add. Also - Public Prop won the Iowa City Waka Classic - congrats boys and girls!

Thanks to all the folks who went to both shows this weekend, what a blast!
We played Dec 30 '06 at People's, then next night, many hearty souls braved an icestorm to help us rock the greatest place since the Mos Eiley Spaceport - the Adobe Lounge
Here we see Slamzbeer, (master of the pan-party noisemaker) just before starting off 2007 with the PERFECT note. Branford Marsalis eat your heart out!

People's was a lot of fun, a technical clusterf*ck loading 2 bands in while two were loading out after FAC and some technical diffs onstage, but a good time was had. Dean played with a busted finger but didn't cry once. Well, once but that's pretty good. Public Property was hellacious as always. They're always playing around so go catch a great reggae show. The Venue in b-town was pretty impressive, thanks for those who found out about this pretty-much-unannounced show. Here's a pic of shaggio warming up his vocal chords at the Venue:

| briar patch | what a weekend - briar patch opening for the public prop crew was a blast - public property was bad ass as always - they are the total package, more proof that Iowa is cooler than you think. (Speaking of PP, we will be appearing with them Nov. 3rd at Peoples)
After waking up in our Obsidian's Tents at the Patch to the sound of Turtle Turdhole snoring like Paul Bunyan sawing down redwoods, we were off to the quaint town of Panora, where a crew of lost Rabrai riders stopped in to get down as only bicyclists can. Thanks Bob, thanks PP, thanks Melissa from Panora. And you too, Haile S. All aboard! |
