"this will be the 3rd BML. having started out at the Hose, this monthly, queer reading series has found a new home with envoy enterprises at HOME SWEET HOME. 131 Chrystie, downstairs.  please join me and help welcome this months writers into the family. this may be the best one yet. i'm personally excited about every single reader and the material they will be bringing to the evening."  -- Robert Smith

--

DAMIEN LUXE is a Brooklyn-based queer femme, liberationist artist, writer, multi-media producer and activist who has been performing text-based theatre and music at cabarets, performance festivals and literary events all over Canada and the US since 2003. D’Luxe’s art talks about the blurry lines between choice and situation, identity and representation, science and spirit. Her work focuses on dissecting social structures and femininity; feminist and queer archiving and storytelling, and on the notion that we must both analyze and enjoy life. She makes her own music using shareware software and sometimes raps.  One of her art websites is axondluxe.com

RYAN MAY is interested in monsters and interior existence, he likes to sew stories. The following is the link to his blog http://thereckoningroom.blogspot.com/

DEVON GALLEGOS, when not printing on cardstock and scouring the tubes for mid-90s Floridian straight orgy videotapes, also tries to finish his first novel, Bite Together, a book that should fit under most bed pallets, and contain just enough sex to bore the reader, then excite, then eventually leave at the bottom of one's backpack, only to be found months later during a tiresome late night where all the trains that pass by aren't theirs.

LONELY CHRISTOPHER www.thecorrespondingsociety.com/lonelychristopher

DANIEL MCKERNAN is a New York based artist most known for his collaborations surrounding the family of esoteric, experimental British group, Coil. He has worked on the live video projections for Cyclobe's performance at the Donaufestival in Austria as well as Thighpaulsandra's and Black Sun Productions' live performances throughout Europe. He has done interactive video installations in NY galleries, most notably "Is Evolution Evil?" featuring Amanda Lepore and "The Magick H8-Ball" featuring Sophia Lamar. He has also curated two lineups of experimental queer shorts-- "Homoccult & Other Esoterotica" and "Luminous Darkness"-- which both premiered at MIX NYC and the latter went on to travel the world. He is currently working on new music & video works.

Luminous Darkness

Curated by Daniel McKernan

After the success of Homoccult & Other Esoterotica, which was co-curated with Richie Rennt and premiered at MIX NYC 2007 and went on to travel the world, this lineup of shorts is a second coming of satanic queers and psychedelic wild boys.  This is a new set of magickal, sexually transgressive videos focusing on erotic ritual & performance.  Here are more artists, spell-casters, wraiths and strays joining as part of the pact of Generation Hex, presenting videos dealing with sex, violence, the occult, magick, and other mystic esoterica. The title, Luminous Darkness, is from the first Cyclobe album (used with permission from Ossian Brown & Stephen Thrower). For extreme tastes.

Thursday

November 19

10PM

The MIX Factory:
125 W. 21st Street (between 6th & 7th)

Luigi & Luca are Stuck

Luigi & Luca, 2008, USA, video, b/w, sound, 3:22 min

Some say that love is about developing, that it is a dynamic condition that ties two people together, but when we try to conserve the shape, misunderstanding the original feeling, love turns into something else, the knot becomes a trap, attraction becomes rejection.  We are facing the disaster without even understanding why.  Love doesn't set us free but keeps us stuck in a dramatic spiral, where at the end all that you get is to kill who you love.  We feel like a last century mormon couple living isolated from reality, with no way to escape.  There's no redemption: we are stuck.  Shot in San Francisco.  Music by Seth Garrison.

Nugase! Panik Mahjong

Lukas Beyeler, 2003, Switzerland, DV-video PAL, color,  sound, 4:14 min, New York Premiere

Beyeler’s work frequently takes the conceit of ‘entertainment’ and the found ‘structures’ of gaming and applies strategies of mirroring/ twinning/ pairing to subvert the normative, in the process creating heterotopic spaces for displaced desire. Referencing Japanese Manga, Anime, and Nugase (video games in which winning players are rewarded with short flashes of erotic imagery) Beyeler re-writes the rules by ‘gaming the system.’  In Nugase! Panik Mahjong frequent Beyeler collaborators Massimo & Pierce, a couple in real life, play against each other and are rewarded with images of their own shared love.  Music made by Massimo & Pierce of Black Sun Productions (also known as the Anarcocks).

Transmission

Dominic Johnson, 2009, UK, video, color, no sound, 4:30 min, World Premiere

In Dominic Johnson's performance, TRANSMISSION, a body tests its thresholds, in rhythms that rise and fall like music, or crisis. His aesthetic is one of melancholy excess, heady longing, and camp spectacle. The video presents edits excerpts from the work, which began as a response to the lost works of Freddie Herko, who danced himself to death in 1964, out of a fifth-storey window.  Johnson has presented solo performances at festivals in the UK, France, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria, and in clubs in London and Rome. He collaborated with Ron Athey on Incorruptible Flesh (Perpetual Wound) in 2006-07. He is a lecturer in the School of English and Drama, at Queen Mary University of London, and has edited two books, on Franko B and Manuel Vason. (Photograph by Serge Hoeltschi.)

douwannafunk?

Murphy Maxwell, 2009, USA, video, color, sound, 4:15 min, World Premiere

Video to music marrying ritual magic with mundane terms by using simple puppetry & masks, dance and hardcore sex with psychedelic overtones. Try it on a friend.

I Got No Stings

Gio Black Peter, 2009, USA, video, color, sound, 5 min, World Premiere....

There was madness, heartache, headaches, drunk rap, rapes, dumb teenage stripper babes, freshly showered & shave from NY, London, Berlin, Paris , Italy, Tokyo & beyond.  "I GOT NO STRINGS" is a kollection of videos documenting Gio Black Peter's travels from here to there in 2007-2009 with the Black Peter Group.

I Promise You Heaven

JodyJock, 2009, USA, video, color, sound, 2:33 min, World Premiere....

A video work by the founder of the cult queer online zine, Prayers for Children.  The video is an extension of a photographic series of self portraits where the artist acts as a guide for young men in a moment of transition. The subjects are generally being killed or killing themselves, but the staged, campy display reinforces death as a metaphor.

FUCK ME

Grant Singer, 2009, USA, video, color, sound, 3 min, World Premiere....

Merging logic, absurdity, and satire, this work recontextualizes the “sex tape.”

Meet Murder My Angel

Black Sun Productions, 2004, Switzerland, video, color, sound, 8:17 min, NY Premiere

A short film by Massimo & Pierce, Carlotta Steinemann and Lukas Beyeler. With Massimo & Pierce, Ennio Nobili and Iris La Liner.  A disturbing tale of sound & vision, surrounding the loss of Innocence: about crossing over the Threshold, about Desire and Despair. There is no way back from an Angel. Filmed at the legendary StrafBar and featuring Massimo & Pierce in their Ghost Boys personas. A love song for the Children of the Black Sun, a Testament and a Manifesto: THE KEY TO JOY IS DISOBEDIENCE.

Bestiary

Lee Adams, 2007/8, UK/USA, video, colorm sound, 4:21 min, North American Premiere

Bestiary was recorded during a live performance at the Cock in NYC in November 2007. The performance featured a giant white rabbit (a nocturnal creature, signifying the moon who dies every morning and is resurrected every evening) involved in a Hermetic act of self-sacrifice, referencing Yukio Mishima’s famous Seppuku (ritual disembowelment).  The video footage, shot by Slava Mogutin, has been warped and twisted to create a grotesque, psychedelic, kaleidoscopic vision, a bestiary of monstrous imaginings dredged from the depths of the collective unconscious using a process inspired by British occultist, artist and father of Chaos Magic Austin Osman Spare.  The soundtrack “It’s in My Blood” by COIL is used with the kind permission of Peter Christopherson.

The Inability to Be Looked at and the Horror of Nothing to See

Zackary Drucker, 2009, USA, video, color, sound, 18 min, New York Premiere

Based on a live performance that took place at Steve Turner Contemporary in Los Angeles. The piece takes form as a group meditation: viewers are directed, by a disembodied voice, through a series of breathing exercises, new-age visions, and dysphoric confessions, all the while being instructed to pluck out the hair from the androgynous, stripped body of the artist, which is positioned in the center of the room.  (Images courtesy of Steve Turner Contemporary.)

TRT ~62 minutes

The last program of queer shorts I curated was called "Homoccult & Other Esoterotica" and featured queer experimental short films based around the theme of occult by artists such as SUPERM (Slava Mogutin & Brian Kenny), Todd Verow, Roberto Ratti, Terence Koh, Peter Christopherson/The Threshold Houseboys Choir, Daniel McKernan & Richie Rennt, Black Sun Productions (Massimo & Pierce), Lee Adams, Morrison Edley/Edward O'Dowd, Micki Pellerano, Ron Athey, Breyer P-Orridge, Dionysos Andronis and Aldo Lee.

I will be performing in this tonight; come by...

This week WIERD proudly welcomes the ever-expansive, internally cosmological world of the amazing Micki Pellerano for an epic live performance of his long-awaited new work of frozen hot musical theatre entitled 'The Eleusinian Mysteries' at Midnight! Combining the ethos of the DIY-spirited baroque films and performances from the likes of Jack Smith, Kenneth Anger, and Derek Jarman with the hedonistic musical accompaniment of seminal ritualistic industrial pioneers such as Crash Worship, Test Department, and Sigilum S, The WIERD recently discovered Micki's work through his most recent exhibition of drawings(one of which is depicted on the flier attached here) and short films 'By Sapphire and Sword' in Brooklyn a few months ago, and Micki kindly scripted this new work specifically for the Very Rare World of the WIERD which will undoubtedly be something unlike anything we have ever had the pleasure of presenting.

By way of introduction to this particular piece, Micki tells me that THE ELEUSINIAN MYSTERIES is a performance based on the codices discovered at Nag Hammadi. Ancient cosmogonies illustrated through titans birthing warlike, androgynous offspring metaphorically explore the origins of the world and the immense psychic shifts taking form in the human psyche. Live score by SKIN DRINK (featuring members of DAIS recording artists Cult of Youth, Whip & the Body, and Total Abuse). In other words, show up o lovely young children of the cold...you won't wanna miss this one! Heres a bit of info on Micki's previous works:

Also this week WIERD will be celebrating the VRirthday of our fave mysterious and ever Gender-Dysphoric pleasure-seeker PRE-OP TRANS! As many of you closest to Georgette know, for years now she has been very patiently and rigorously preparing to leave us all and her old fleshly encasement for a new life in the body she has always desired, and now she is so close to FINALLY being able to afford the operation which is as of yesterday scheduled for Wed. August 12th...(and no kids its not in the WIERD but in Bangcock darlings...). As a way of making Georgette's dream of unbridled sexual freedom come true, all proceeds from the $5 cover charge this week at WIERD will go directly towards Georgette's surgery...so please if you feel it in your heart give to the Very Rare cause and help set a beautiful young girl FREE - YOU GO (GIRL?) !!!

Lastly both the band and I just wanted to thank everyone who came out last week for Blacklist's 'Midnight of the Century' record release party at Home Sweet Home. In the city the release is now available at Other Music or through the WIERDRecords website, Itunes etc. The lovely Kasia Grabeck just sent over her photos of the evening's festivities here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/kasiagrabek/sets/72157619020013368/show/

The reviews on this absolute masterpiece of thundering cold guitar maximalism are slowly starting to roll in with the secret secretions of spring, here's a few for your WIERD afternon's cubicular VRentertainment :) :

Oh and finally I meant to pass this on a few weeks ago - perhaps as an antidote to the absolute sadness of things as evidenced by the likes of this apocalyptic document of da not-so-Very-Rayah musical present:

...the WIERD would like to say theres hope...that IT can still be all live...and ever ALIVE and unedited, recorded just a few months ago by the 15 yr old spirits...have faith - and just wait til they start writin their own trax! Needless to say technique and musical craft at this level don't come wit da download yo :) notice the drum programming is one massive uncut track!:

15-20 artists have been asked to participate in this event, challenged to make something (painting, video, sculpture, performance, etc.) they normally wouldn't make due to its content.  As curators, we're interested in artists exploring an idea that would normally be taboo to them; be it sexual, political, or violent imagery. This would be the artists' chance to exhibit something without any repercussions. It can be as over the top (and we prefer it to be over the top) as they want to make it.  Since the show is a one night exhibition, it will be heavy with performance, video, or quickly made objects.
