Toronto Deadline for Band Applicants December 19th, 2007
(Toronto – December 5, 20..07) Battala RockStars is pleased to announce its panel of Toronto judges: Our Lady Peace drummer, Jeremy Taggart, rock journalist Karen Bliss (Rolling Stone/Billboard), music producer, Gavin Brown (Billy Talent/Three Days Grace) and founder of charity, Skate4Cancer, Rob Dyer.. These esteemed industry professionals will judge each battle on band's creativity, musicianship, performance and song writing capabilities. Battala RockStars begins in Toronto on January 9, 2008 at Jeff Healey's. Prizes total $25,000 and include a $10,000 demo and spot co-headlining Battala RockStars 2009 tour alongside a major signed band.
Creator for Battala RockStars Jordan Lindsay is working overtime and believes Battala RockStars will help find the next great talent. "Battala RockStars is looking for bands with real talent, strong entertainment value and a drive to succeed in Canada's diverse and treacherous musical landscape. Although we are not committed to any one genre, it is a rock show, and should be treated as such".
Battala RockStars is currently seeking aspiring rock musicians in all participating cities. The deadline to sign up for the Toronto Battle is December 19, 2007. Potential battlers must have their materials sent to Battala RockStars by this date. The first battle will take place on January 9, 2008 at Jeff Healey's. The final battle will take place on February 28, 2008 at The Sound Academy (formerly The Docks) where two finalists will battle it out for the grand prize. Sharing the stage with the finalists will be a major headlining act to be announced.

Jeremy Taggart
is the drummer of Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace who is currently working on a new album. Known for his wacky sense of humour, gregarious personality and spontaneous impersonations, he's created TAGGART'S TAKE - a 60 second daily feature that brings theatre back to radio. Karen Bliss
is an established music journalist, whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Billboard, Elle Canada, and dozens of other publications. She has interviewed some of the world's most famous musicians such as Kurt Cobain, Shania Twain, Jimmy Page, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, and hundreds more. In the new year, she will be launching "Lowdown with Karen Bliss," a music interview show for BiteTV, available on television, online, as well as mobile and IPTV platforms. She also published an anti-racism children's picture book, The Girl With Pinhead Parents, available from maplemusic.ca, with a portion of the proceeds going to War Child Canada.
Gavin Brown
is a Canadian record producer and musician who has produced material for bands such as Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, Cancer Bats, The Reason, The Tea Party, Sarah Harmer and many more. His first production credit, Danko Jones 'My Love Bold', won a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album. Roy Dyer
is the founder of Skate4Cancer in 2004 to help raise money in search for a cure for cancer. In November 2005, Dyer organized a concert event at Toronto's MOD Club Theatre, with headliner City and Colour. The event marked a milestone for skate4cancer and Dyer felt that his foundation could expand in new directions, targeting the significance of music within the skateboarding scene. Since then, skate4cancer have produced and promoted dozens of concerts and have toured across Canada with many well-known bands and festivals including Silverstein and Warped Tour. Battala RockStars is an innovative take on the standard battle of the band concept taking place nationally across Canada in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Halifax, Fredericton and Vancouver. Bands will compete over several rounds on two different stages using their original material in a song for song battle. The competing bands will ultimately try to outplay and outsmart their opponents in their home city. Each city's winning band will advance to the national Battala RockStars finale concert in 2008 to compete in a competition for the ultimate Battala RockStars Canada title.
