Over the last 8 years I have traveled to and filmed documentaries in both Iraq and Darfur with Warchild.  Warchild's aim is to provide both material and psychological aid to children in conflict regions.  I have been fortunate enough to witness firsthand the power and impact that this charity has had helping children get back to being children no matter how devastating the conditions are. Over the years Our Lady Peace has taken part in numerous fundraising events to help support the over 20 programs that Warchild has set up around the globe. It has been said that the truly virtuous don't look around to make sure someone is watching. This could not be more evident than at Warchild. For this example we are all grateful.

sincerely,

Raine Maida

Hello there.

We played a show. Believe it or not.
First time ever in Prince Edward Island. It was raining. Didn't matter.
We had a blast. Forgot how good it feels to play our music for people.

In other news, we are still working hard on the record. We have about 16 or 17 songs now, and about to do another writing/recording session at the end of the month. Many songs are finished, we're just writing more now 'cause we're having a good time doing it, and we've been recording things pretty fast, so we figure why not just keep going until we feel that we're out of juice.

Hope that you all will hear it sooner rather than later.

Talk of album title and artwork is bubbling as well. Exciting stuff.

Doing the show last weekend really got me longing to be out there playing OLP music every night. I had to keep telling myself that we weren't on tour, 'cause a huge part of me wanted us to just keep going on to the next town and next show.

Soon, soon..............................

Hey everyone,

Steve here. Just got home from a week long writing session in Toronto with Duncan and Jer. The three of us like to get together and pound out ideas in between our writing sessions with Raine.

The first few days were too cold. I got over it. Duncan came in with a cool psychedelic delayed-out guitar lick that we worked up, first with Duncan on guitar, Jer on bass, and me on drums. Then upon listening back to the recording Duncan made of it, decided it was best to switch back to our usual positions. Jer has a great video treatment for this idea so hopefully it will become an OLP song.

Since Raine was on tour, he happened to be in Toronto is the middle of our week so he came in and yea or nay-ed what we had been kicking around, which was great because it helped us to know what to work on more and what to dismiss.

It’s funny, we get together like this pretty often, yet every session is different. I think that is a good thing though, you gotta change it up otherwise you’re gonna end up with the same kind of stuff over and over.

This time Duncan and I fleshed out things more on acoustic guitars, where as a lot of other times I would play guitar and he would play drums to flesh things out before Jer came in. We didn’t plan it out or anything, just happened that way. Hopefully this different approach will yield some great songs once Raine gets his hands on them!

Anyway, we’re getting closer to giving you some new OLP music. The four of us are slated to write/record in California in April and I am really psyched about it.

I can’t tell you how much better of an experience making this record has been compared to the last one for me. Hopefully those good vibes will translate to you when you are listening to this new record.

Battala RockStars is an innovative take on the standard battle of the band concept taking place nationally across Canada in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Halifax, Fredericton and Vancouver. Bands will compete over several rounds on two different stages using their original material in a song for song battle. The competing bands will ultimately try to outplay and outsmart their opponents in their home city. Each city's winning band will advance to the national Battala RockStars finale concert in 2008 to compete in a competition for the ultimate Battala RockStars Canada title.
