O, let America be America again—the land that never has been yet, and yet must be; the land where every man is free.

Happy Father's Day! I thought I'd share a rough demo of a new song of mine about a father. His name was Daedalus and, as legend has it, he decided to build some wings for himself and his son. Things went downhill from there.
PLAY SONG

Icarus
words & music: Patsy Moore
Copyright © 2009 Patchouli Grove/SESAC

The daddy was a craftsman
Of far and wide estimation
And he built two sets of pinions
Of arresting plume and wax

And he said, "Listen, boy
These will take us higher
But they also work as pyre

So you best beware the sun"

The daddy was a craftsman
Of universal repute
Measuring his heir for a feather suit
He was serious as cancer

When he said, "Look here, boy
These were made for hoisting
But they are much too dense for floating

So you best beware the sea
Just follow me
By the time they know we've vanished
We'll be fading sable specks against the sky

Follow my direction
It's all about defection
From the enemy
You and me
We're gonna fly”

(“Look at us go”)

Once the boy began his flapping
He grew giddy at the prospects
He lost sight of his old man
He kept moving toward the bright light
The devil is a bright light

Red-hot bright light
Singeing away every quill from his arms
Red-hot bright light
Doing him a world of harm

And he fell into the breakers
He was swallowed by the breakers

‘Best beware the sun

The genuine camaraderie and general good vibeyness of this recent gig with Myrrh, Tim Dillinger, Pam Mark Hall, Jerry Chamberlain, and Michael Mishaw have softened the blow of an evening seasoned with Give Reverb to Every Vocalist But the Bald Chick, a piano in desperate need of tuning, and a merciless set of cameras capturing the 30+ pounds of steroid weight I now lug to and fro. (There's nothing like lingering shots of the porcine flanks formerly known as my legs and evidence of how the new, expanded version of myself brings with it an Esther Rolle-like no-neckedness to remind me that these have been physically cruel months, indeed.)

Thank God it's all about the music.

And, honestly, Kulak's is a GREAT place to play.

Please don't forget about tomorrow, Friday, May 29th, from 8:00 - 10:00 pm PST, when I'll be part of "Nashville to NoHo", an intimate celebration of music and friendship. Alongside me will be Tim Dillinger, Michael Mishaw, Pam Mark Hall and Jerry Chamberlain (who've recently joined forces as 'Pamelita & Parker'), and Myrrh. It all takes place at Kulak's Woodshed, 5230-1/2 Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood, California 91607.

Kulak's is a live acoustic music, singer-songwriter listening room and pioneering multi-camera Webcast recording studio, lovingly created by Paul Kulak (hence the venue's handle) way back in 1999. The always warm and inviting spot is operated completely by volunteers and funded by audience donations (suggested amount: $10.00).

If you can't attend the performance in person, just head over to http://www.kulakswoodshed.com/webcast.shtml on the night of the big event, and be part of it all in real time! Remember, though, it's PACIFIC TIME. 8 - 10 pm. But I stated that already. Why do you always make me repeat myself? ;-)

I'd also like to remind you that Kulak’s Woodshed Webcasts utilize Adobe Flash 10. If you have trouble viewing the broadcast, check to make sure that you have the latest version of the Adobe Flash plug-in installed on your machine. (You can find that at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.) And if, for some reason, you can't upgrade to Flash 10, Kulak’s is testing a Flash 9 version, as well. (You can access that at http://www.kulakswoodshed.com/SimpleConnect/player2.html.)

***Be sure to eMail any or all of us during the show (kulakswebcast@yahoo.com). Periodically, we'll break for viewer messages to be read aloud. We want to hear from you!

NOTE 1: Each additional viewer adds to the ever-growing cost of the live music video Webcast. Help keep it alive by participating with your financial support. (You're able to do that at http://www.kulakswoodshed.com/VolunteerOps.shtml.)

NOTE 2: Kulak's Woodshed serves no food or alcohol. Artists who perform there range from emerging independent talents to number one hit writers and Grammy winners.

After a bear of an upload problem over at Facebook (it lasted almost three days), I've managed to get this video online for you. Please take 10 minutes to learn about what's been happening with me, healthwise; the impending Med Fund auction; and what looks to be the start of an NPO.

I hope you'll help spread the word, and even join forces with us to meet a couple of crucial—but certainly attainable—goals.

Something's wrong with Facebook's video upload function; so, for the past couple of days, I haven't been able to share the detail-laden video presentation I have for all of you. (It concerns what's going on with me, healthwise; the impending Med Fund auction; and the start of an NPO.) As soon as possible, it'll be up. In the meantime, we've started a Web page to serve as an official record of developments. Hopefully, we'll soon be adding you to the list! Check it out:
