Dear LUMPIA Lovers,

This year is very significant, especially so with the election of the next
President of the United States. And it all falls in our hands (well for us
who are 18 and over that is). Whether you're supporting OBAMA/BIDEN
or MCCAIN/PALIN, we can all agree on this: the FREEDOM of
CHOICE and the IMPORTANCE of VOTING.

Did you know that the Asian American community has the lowest
percentage of registered voters among ethnic groups in the country?
Discouraged by that fact, the LUMPIA crew has created a special viral
video campaign to encourage the community to go out there and VOTE
on November 4!

USE "YOUR POWER" on 11.4.08
We've teamed up with two of our role models, musician DJ KUTTIN KANDI
(5th Platoon) and renowned comic book artist WHILCE PORTACIO
(Wetworks, Uncanny X-Men, Iron Man, Stone) for a series of public service
announcements called "YOUR POWER".

Watch the multiple versions in either standard or high definition at:
http://www.kidheroes.net/yourpower

or click on the picture below:

The website also includes a photo gallery, press stills, and links to embed
the video and to share with your friends and family. So please, watch
the videos and encourage everyone to LEARN MORE ABOUT THE
CANDIDATES and THEIR POLICIES, and participate in the election process
this November!!!

Again, these videos would not be possible without the volunteering
support of our cast and crew. Special thanks to George Lin and the
San Diego Asian Film Foundation's Reel In The Vote Program for
encouraging to create this campaign. We did our part. Now it's your
turn!

PREMIERE OF "TOMMY NEEDS A NEW CAR"
Earlier this year, we shot a couple of commercials for the USC Credit
Union. It gave the LUMPIA crew a chance to work with the world famous
USC Trojan Marching Band. With school and college football season
in full bloom, we finally unveil our AUTO LOAN commercial entitled
"Tommy Needs A New Car".

You can view the commercial online at:
http://www.kidheroes.net/usccreditunion/car.html

Stay tuned for our HOME LOAN Commercial for the USC Credit Union
premiering soon!

FALL SPECIAL!
Are you a LUMPIA lover without any LUMPIA gear? We've slashed
all our LUMPIA shirt prices in HALF. Grab a LUMPIA, LUMPIA PALOOZA,
or a LOVE THAT LUMPIA T-Shirt for only $7 at our FALL sale only through
KidHeroes.net. While supplies last. Visit www.kidheroes.net now!

SO WHAT'S NEXT?
More to come... so stay tuned.

Dear LUMPIA Lovers,

Yes it's true and I still can't believe it! After being chosen on June 18 to
be one of four filmmakers to take part in this year's Los Angeles Film
Festival Canon BRING IT 72-Hour Film Competition, I won it all with
my short film "BEING REEL".

We were all required to write, shoot, and edit a short movie about "festival
stories" in just 3 days. The grueling process took a lot out of me as I
fought a sore throat, lost my voice, and shot the movie in the middle of
a summer heat wave. In the end, I barely made the finish line with only
6 minutes left on the clock. On July 23, the audience at an industry
event voted my film as the WINNER. My prize: a brand new HF10
Camcorder provided by sponsor Canon!

You can catch all the drama from each day with our video blogs at:
http://www.kidheroes.net/beingreel

Or catch them in order here:
DAY ONE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6awzkJ6JG8
DAY TWO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJM3rwz63y8
DAY THREE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Mj2SrjOeY
THE FINISH LINE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2foHOC0RbY
THE RECAP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MkpcfiTQec

You can also watch the winning 72 HOUR CUT of "BEING REEL" at:
http://www.kidheroes.net/beingreel

There you can also catch a photo gallery as well as links to all the other
blogs and short films in the competition. We will be working on an
EXTENDED FINAL CUT of "BEING REEL" for future festivals and
screenings. SO stay tuned!

"BEING REEL" stars Phillip Jeanmarie, Bambu (formerly of the Native Guns),
Kristine Sabella, Cyndee San Luis, and Mia Guzman. I'll be writing
about my experiences in detail in my blog this week.

Fat Free Film hosted the Canon 72 Hour Film Competition at the
Los Angeles International Film Festival, in conjunction with film
producing great Effie Brown ("Real Women Have Curves") and her
company Duly Noted Productions. The entries were open to Film
Independent Lab Alums and Project Involve Alums.

SUMMER SPECIAL!
Still don't own the third installment of our LUMPIA PALOOZA series?
Well you can now grab it for only $10 at our summer sale only through
KidHeroes.net! While supplies last. Visit www.kidheroes.net now!

SO WHAT'S NEXT?
This competition has rejuvenated me like nothing before! The fact that
I wrote a decent script in just 5 hours (when I couldn't write anything in 5
years) and then WIN (even though I wasn't 100 percent healthy) has
inspired me heavily. All of you LUMPIA LOVERS have played a special
part in motivating me and I THANK YOU all! The best is yet to come...

Yes it's my birthday and I really feel I'm getting younger. I know it's been a while since I've updated my blog so I've actually made this the first priority of my new age.

I've recently migrated to Facebook so I really don't know how many people still read this. I still realize though that there are people who still visit this blog to read up on the 2 year old BEBOT controversy. That open letter is still a hot topic whenever I do my PINOY SIGHTINGS presentation. And yet this topic is fresh news for a lot of folks. Even after all these years, I'd been lying if I told you it hasn't affected me so much. It's no big secret that the controversy drove me into a year long depression and a big creative dryspell that to this day I'm still trying to break out of.

That's not entirely true. If anything, it's giving me a good excuse to take a well deserved break. Keep in mind that it's almost been a decade of non-stop hard work for me. After graduating from USC Film School, I jumped from THE DEBUT, to LUMPIA, and to over three years worth of music videos. In just the past year during this "break", I received 2 big awards, created a TV commercial that's now airing on TV, and made some personal commitments in my personal life.

Yes, I've been able to reflect a lot on what I've accomplished so far. But you know what? I'm still hungry. That fire in me is still burning, even more so now than ever. And today, on this young birthday of mines, I want to reaffirm my commitment to you... that I will continue to entertain and surprise you with my upcoming projects. Stay tuned! The best is yet to come...

The biggest treat?  Standing next to "Mr. Sulu" himself, George Takei,

The night was set up perfectly as Native Guns Bambu and DJ Phatrick

became a great celebration of the award win and the music video's
success.  "Almost perfect" if only Kiwi and the rest of the cast/crew were
there with us.

All of us here want to take this rare moment to THANK YOU for all
your support.  Award and accolades are NOTHING if we didn't have the
love and dedication of our LUMPIA lovers everywhere.  The fact that
you're still on our mailing list and have followed us from the beginning
motivates us every day.  Keep spreading the LUMPIA love!
