Today I had a special alert passed on by a friend on a subject that really frustrates me. I am so sick of gay parents, or gay people who wish to become parents, being denied this very special human right. I have seen irresponsible people become parents whilst being on drugs, who neglect their kids every day; these same people who need a license to fish or drive a car can pop out as many children as they please. 1.3 million youths are homeless right now, not because they want to be, but because most of them have been abused or neglected by their parents. 3 million reports of child abuse are made each year--but experts estimate that actual accounts of abuse are three times that many!

With so many kids without parents, as orphans or neglected children, what right does the government have to deny them perfectly loving, happy, healthy homes with a gay parent--when obviously so many heterosexual parents have failed?! Any loving home that can care for a child should be able to do so, instead of having these kids on the streets, in foster centers, and/or being severely neglected.

Today this creepy guy was following my husband and our daughter at the grocery store, and he kept trying to get close to her when my husband would lean over to grab something to put in the cart. Finally, he screamed at the guy and the store manager came, saw what was going on, and told the man to leave. Even scarier? The guy had a little boy with him, too.  Why is it perfectly fine to give abusive, neglectful, and/or really hateful people the right to adopt--or even to simply keep their own children--when it's not to give the same rights to a gay parent who proves to be much more qualified?

Please click here to protest good parents having their kids taken from them or even being denied the right to become parents simply because of their sexual orientation--and the judges who make these ridiculous rulings. In this instance, a judge who made such a ruling is up for a promotion and comments are needed by Friday.

Growl. It outrages me that good parents lose their children when shit parents keep them and hurt them, molest them, send them to the street, etc. all because they have an "accepted" sexual orientation. Ri-goddamn-diculous.

...OK, here are some more alerts for today for anyone interested...

I have decided to stop keeping a journal here at MySpace for a number of reasons; mostly, I just like the one at LJ better. So if you'd like to continue reading my random entries, please visit me at LiveJournal. That said, I may continue to randomly post here off and on-- but not regularly.

Also, I won runner-up for best romantic comedy at the Metamorfic Moon Last Chance Full Moon Showdown recently and won this lovely banner! Click on it to R&R some Remus/Tonks shippy goodness.

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

I'll also be writing some stuff for this month's R/T Challenge. Be sure to visit there for a lot more R/T luv from a ton of talented fanfic writers.

Current mood:  calm
This week wasn't nearly as taxing as its predecessor... likely because we had a date day to look forward to (it's been a couple of months). The cause of this newfound set of doldrums is undoubtedly entwined with my large stress level--but not comprised solely of it. On the contrary, after some heavy introspection (Exercise 40!) I've decided, though not surprisingly so, that it's really because of this grotesque imbalance. The mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, and social aspects of my life have not taken a back seat; they have been thrown in the trunk. But how does one create balance?

I think a really good way to try would be to start with one area and slowly add in others--and I think the best area to begin with is the physical, because while all areas are connected, many things such as health, stress, rest, etc. are all heavily related to the physical realm.

So for this first week, I'd like to perform a physical assessment, and identify both areas that need to be worked on as well as a plan on how to do it.

I. Physical Self
    A. Exercise: Week 1 and 2
    B. Diet: Weeks 3 and 4
    C. Breathing: Weeks 5 and 6
    D. Sleep and Rest: Weeks 7 and 8
    E. Sex: Weeks 9 and 10

Week 1: Exercise
This week I will implement (and ..) 20 minutes of physical exercise into a daily routine.
-------------

* Journey *

Exercise 41: Role Model
I'm going to use SARK as a role model. She helped me a lot through my dark White Castle days, as well as some family issues I had in my late teens. I don't know why I stopped using her as a valuable resource; but after revisiting her and her amazing energy and outlook, I remember how she really inspired me.
Qualities of SARK: ambitious without being an adreneline junkie; artisitc; personal; funny; lighthearted; jovial; succulent!; unafraid to relfect inner beauty, strength, or friendship; at ease with strangers; outgoing without being overwhelming.
So now I'll need some kind of visual image of her at my desk; perhaps I'll get some of her notecards and rotate them. "I'm a mountain lion in a skirt, with prayers in my heart." SARK

42 Breathing Exercises
I bought Gay Hendricks' Breathing Box last summer with the intention of using it, but I never went through with it. But I also have it listed above as part of my physical assessment, so I'll be implementing it within weeks 5 and 6. For now, I'm breathing with my diaphragm--as we did in all those delicious years singing, which I miss so much...

43 Your Theme Song
How awful to remember that my theme song less than a decade ago was "Here I Go Again (on my own)" by Whitesnake. I always have been more of a solitary creature, but that is just depressing. I've had an on-and-off again Rent soundtrack high since Sage was born--partially because she always went to sleep after being danced to "Take Me Out Tonight." And who doesn't feel better after listening to "La Vie Boheme"? But I'm a changeling, as I think humans are, at least partially, by nature, and I don't want to stick to one song forever (TJ and I have several songs, after all, and my current "favorite" never lasts for more than a few weeks). So for now, let's go with "Seasons of Love" since I'm trying to figure out how to measure my life. And it's definitely something that gives inspiration each time it's played, which is a component this exercise requires.

44 Give Compliments
Man, I remember when TJ and I used to go crusading in high school, or out, or wherever, we always carried around little Kindness Coins we bought from the Carnival & Party Supply store. They always had a quote and a "thank you" message on them, and we left them everywhere we experienced kindness--from a waitress, a nurse, a volunteer organizer, an insurance agent, whomever. Funny I forgot about that until just now. And we always did it really inconspicuously--somewhere they'd be sure to see it (say, under the bill or tip) but that they wouldn't until after we left. We still do this sometimes; I'm a huge fan of large tipping every time you can, or leaving notes of appreciation, for example, but I'm pretty shy about telling people things right to their faces. This exercise calls for three compliments a day... not sure if I can do that verbally (I'm sure I give out double that but written-only) but I'll try.

Gratitude Journal    ++gracias++
1. An awesome date day. Yeah, the film was disappointing, but getting out for a few hours was what I really needed.
2. Finally getting the guts to cut these bangs out of my eyes! After my last hair-cutting fiasco (one out of how many times I've cut my hair? At least forty?) I've been reluctant to touch it again, but since I recently became a candidate for Cousin It's long lost sister, I decided to take action, and I'm so glad I did.
3. Catching that dumb show, Garden Police, after my shower. I certainly didn't mean to but I'm so glad I did because it gave me some awesome ideas for our garden.
4. Deciding to finally take action against this darkness that has crept into me. I feel like Tobey's extra from Spiderman 3...and am tired of it.
5. Seeing little bits and pieces of myself coming back so slowly; a sarcastic quip here, a laugh there, and an actual desire to write... It's comforting to know that I'm still in here, somewhere.

Mirrorbook
I have fallen in love with the moon again, thanks to dear Gypsy who has to urinate every few hours. Sucks to have to take her out so much but it does give me an incredible view.

Physical Activity Log
Beyond cleaning, an unfortunate lack of activity to report. But since I have to incorporate it into my new Plan, perhaps there will be a better entry to follow.

Kindness Notes
-- Aunt Connie taking over on Sage a few times this weekend, notably on Saturday evening, giving me an unexpected and delicious hour nap.
-- Unwavering support from the two best sisters on earth.

Reading... Bits of Order of the Phoenix to my husband (who naturally had a lot of questions following the confusing and disjointed film adaptation), and Half-Blood Prince for my own recollection in preparation for next weekend...
Watching... Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (sooo disappointed, but not surprised...), Nancy Drew (cute), Catch & Release (better than expected!), and The Last Mimzy (which I thought was pretty cool).
Listening to... Train, U2, Instant Karma, Wreckless Eric, Woody Guthrie, David Gray, Van Morrison, White Stripes, Sammy Hagar.
Writing... Still working on "A Dream is a Wish" for the MM Challenge--but some actual headway has been made!

Jesus H. Christ. The fact that I haven't touched my journey since my vacation, over a month ago, doesn't really show much improvement in time/work management, does it? This last week was a BITCH, and this weekend was a rollercoaster (work all night Friday-bleh! outing w/ Sage and a new puppy-yay! constant criticism-bleh! date day approaching-yay!). But some lovley things are on the horizon and I'm going to (rather, try to) focus on those instead.

* the local grocery stocks nutrisoda! sweet! I just finished a "Focus," which is mango/peach.
* date day approaches... Saturday we're going to see Order of the Phoenix and have already purchased tickets, so no excuses for not going! Not that THAT is an activity I'd want to back out of!
* less than two weeks unitl Deathly Hallows. Every time I think about it my stomach twists! TJ got the weekend off just so he could manage the 'kids' (Sage AND Gypsy now) and I could read it.
* my 2008 planner is going to be delivered this week! some changes will then ensue, including only sticking meetings in there for work (and sticking to Outlook for my tasks instead of filling up my days with them for some perspective), keeping the majority of my blog in that instead (resurrecting the ancient art of Writing on Paper), etc.

And now, on to the journey...
#38 ritual bath
~used to do these at least weekly but now it's rather difficult to do. perhaps...

#39 food journal
~one plan for my new planner, which is a daily one w/ plenty of writing room.

#40 inner dialogue
~ oh boy wow, plenty of that this week. But agreed that it is important and should be done routinely.

Rather than breezing through a million of these and checking them off (as I'm in a breeze-through, check-off mood) I'll wait to begin the next chapter later this week.

Gratitude Journal ~danke~
1. Last week is over. Truly, I couldn't be more grateful for that.
2. Saturday's outings with Sage & Connie. It's always good to get out of the house... We had a good time, and I was even nice to strangers. One example: after congratulating a couple whose car read "Just Married." I stopped and wondered, "What the hell?" I felt a little like the person I used to be, and I missed her a lot. She was so nice and happy, and she definitely put family and friends before work. She was a lot more fun too...
3. Our new puppy, Gypsy! What a cutie, even if she does have to tinkle every few hours. She looks like a teeny, tiny wolf, and she's the runt of the litter. I always fall for the runt. I think it has something to do with my childhood obsession with Charlotte's Web.
4. My new (used) computer. Though is was quite nasty and I had to clean/disinfect/call hazmat to get it in shape it is quite easier on my tired, desperately-in-need-of-an-exam-and-new-glasses eyes.
5. Actually telling my boss about all of the heinousness of the past couple of weeks... though I don't suppose I'm fully grateful, I am sort of glad that I told her. At least I told someone without blowing up again.

Mirrorbook
My new planner is actually the Seasons of the Witch Daily planner, which is an exquisite combo calendar/journal with tons of info and art in it. I am SO excited about using it, and doing my official Year and a Day in it. See, there WAS a reason for putting it off!

Physical Activity Log
Walkies! New dog aside, we did do a ton of walking all over the place this weekend, and Sage and I have started doing yoga together most days (as opposed to me guiding her through baby yoga only). However, I really want to start incorporating some cardiovascular stuff in my day. The last time I tried, Sage got really whiny in her playpen, but I think she'll just have to whine for half an hour! And now she'll have company whining with our pup.

Smile & Kindness Notes
Lots of love to report on, which is brilliant.
~my youngest sister being a surprising source of comfort
~weird but nice conversations with strangers over the weekend
~Connie being a HUGE help with the laundry (and taking to Gypsy quite quickly!)
~Sage, though biting, being very into sharing and hug-and-kiss giving
~Timothy tolerating my insantiy all week with tongue-in-cheek humor (probably the only thing that kept me from quitting, or killing someone, or both)
~Tam discovering some of it all and making me feel slightly better, if not for just being able to tell someone

Reading... I Like You by Amy Sedaris (for a work project, actually), The Beast of Noor by Janet Lee Carey (still, yes! Not as much time to read as I used to have), and a bunch of awesome entries to the Metamorfic Moon Last Chance Full Moon Showdown.
Watching... We saw Ghostrider last week and it was ok. A lot of rushed stuff and a lot of stuff that should have been rushed, imho, but I still liked it. I also finally saw The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, in which Geoffrey Rush gave yet another stellar performance (as usual). Freedom Writers was really good and made me want to teach again... saw that in early June, actually! Damn, three new movies in a month isn't really so hot, is it? That used to be a week's worth!
Listening to... Plain White T's (whom Lola got me on), Instant Karma (you can buy a copy from Amnesty International to help with Darfur efforts), Wreckless Eric, Rachel Yamagata, Live Earth (wasn't it awesome?), Nick Cave, Snow Patrol, and various versions of "Crazy Love." I heard it on Pandora the other day and did a search for all the artists who have covered it, and each version seems just as awesome as the last.
Writing... A new R/T short series, with all titles based on cliches/song titles (the series is called "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes," and the sections are "1: I Hear the Secrets That You Keep (When You're Talking in Your Sleep," "2: Daydream Believer," "3: It was Just My Imagination," and "4: Now I'm a Believer"). It's for the Metamorfic Moon Challenge and I'm trying to take a different angle on my prompt ("dream") in each section. I have a larger story in mind for my other prompt but I'm not sure I'll make it in time before Deathly Hallows (it's largely speculation on the final battle).

God, am I out of practice! I've been working on a bunch of Remus & Tonks art and none of it is really to my liking.

I have the art prompts "warm" and "cold" for the Metamorfic Moon Last Chance Full Moon Showdown and I did these for them:

(Cold) "So Cold"-- surrealistic, dreamlike, not nearly like I saw in my head . WTF is up w/ Remus' wolf?! I meant to get a good contrast but it's just ugly, not scary. And perhaps I should have used watercolor instead of colored pencil...

(Warm) "Heat of the Moment"-- kind of pre-or-fledgling romance, one of those "aha!" moments when they're realizing their mutural attraction, I think... And in crayon! No idea why I love crayons. They're just...fun. Remus ended up kind of pudgy. My excuse is that he's in love, happy, and eating plenty of Molly Weasley's good cooking.

Finally, I have a new Deviant Art profile with more art... I'm planning on uploading some older (ahem, better) stuff sometime soon because all the crap I have there is definitely not my best work. Of course, going from creating art every day to once or twice a year certainly hasn't helped.
