Rules:Once you've been tagged you are to write a blog with ten(10) random things, facts, habits or goals about yourself. At the end choose 10 other people  and list the reason  why you chose them. to be tagged...you can not tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you,it's because I want to know more about you.

1. I've never proposed to anybody and I'm wondering what that's like
2. I'm 1/4 Indonesian, but I've never been there
3. I can be a lazy bastard
4. I like the person I've grown up to be
5. I sing very loud in my car, preferrably Metallica. You don't want to be there when I try a high note
6. I love the States but it could never be my home. I'd rather observe and be amazed.
7. I feel pretty confident at the moment
8. I hate it when people are screwing up their language and just don't give a damn.
9. I need to travel more
10. it's time for a drink

My Choices:(rather those that I think would most likely participate)

1. Amadee, because she'll come up with something funny with words I've never seen.
2. Inner Child, because he owes me
3. Mark, because it'll probably be something gross but funny
4. XoXo, because I know too little of her
5. C. Leiyah, a mysterious girl I'd like to know better
6. Kim, because I dunno, I just want to damnit
7. Mary Mary Quite Contrary, because I haven't seen her in ages and wonder how she's doing
8. Amanda, because I'm curious if she can mention things I don't already know
9. CAS, same as Amanda, but I know her less well than Amanda
10. Tim, because it got a bit crowded with women over here.

When I was a kid, we used to go on holiday trips by car. Hours and hours we've spent in the car on our way to far destinations. Back in those days, we obviously didn't have dvd's in the headrests, so we had to find another way of entertaining ourselves. Waving at random grumpy people was fun for a while, but we had to come up with something better.

We started impersonating passing cars. Now back in those days, all cars were different and had real "faces" and expressions, so it was great fun. The always angry looking Alfa Romeo's, the sissy and innocent looking Renaults, everything passed by. My father couldn't stop laughing and at one point it became dangerous when he really cracked up at my brother's impersonation of a Citroen CX. Tears of laughter caused my father to swirl a bit on the highway but he got it straight at the end.

This morning I visited a car website, and read an article about this very phenomenon and they had pics of people impersonating cars. They're pretty good actually, here it is:

Another way to have fun with car impersonations, is of course by sound. I found this on Youtube and it cracks me up every time I see it. ;)

I always (finance permitting) go to the Sebring 12 hour race in Florida and stay at Turn 10. There's a race fan community there that have welcomed me as an overseas member a couple of years ago and I consider them good friends. In my gallery there are many pics from Sebring, so you can get a taste of what it's like. The guys from Turn 10 have their own t-shirts and caps (I wear my cap with pride!), but also keychains and stickers.

A couple of guys are well acquainted with the Corvette team and they always come over to the camp on Friday night, the night before the race. It's grown into a tradition to meet up there, so there's a natural bond between the team and its most avid fans from Turn 10. Two years ago, they allowed us to put a Turn 10 sticker at the back of the car for the Sebring race. And later that year on the Le Mans car as well, so it's safe to say that sticker is there to stay.

Today, Corvette officially introduced their new GT2 Corvette and what do you know? The sticker is right there!

Sure, it's just a sticker on a racing car, but far more than that, it's their tribute to the Turn 10 community and I'm proud to be part of it!

On the pic below, you can see the sticker left to where the license plate would be, on the number 3 car. I admit, it's tiny, but it's really there! ;)

Just got back from Belgium, where I visited the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. It's THE event of the year in GT racing. Spa-Francorchamps is arguably the best track in the world; it's in the middle of the Ardennes in the south of Belgium. Very tough for the car and driver, because of tricky weather conditions and the difficulty of the track, with its huge difference between the highest and lowest point. It's uphill and downhill all the time and you really need balls to be fast there.

On the menu: 37 cars, ranging from Ferrari's, Maserati's, Porsches, Ford GT, Saleens and some other similar beauties. V8s, V10s and V12s, all singing along in the GT choir. It's music to my ears, there's nothing like the sound of a Ferrari 430 hitting the pit limiter. It's like firecrackers and they spit out flames from the exhaust when they hit the limiter. It still gives me goose bumps thinking about it! There's nothing like it when you see and hear that at night. Night racing rocks!

Yesterday night was special. I got hold of an invite for a VIP party from MarcVDS Racing, one of the competing teams with a Ford GT. One of my friends is a racing journalist and he got me one because they had invited all the press. Always good to know people. ;)

They had rented a terrace on the top of the pit building, with an open view on the La Source corner. They had a pretty decent dj there, everthing looked classy and trendy, not what you usually see at racing events. There I was, enjoying the night racing, the music, the company of my good friend Chris and an ice cold Belgian beer in my hand. It's one of those moments I won't forget.

I mentioned the tricky weather conditions. The Ardennes are very unpredictable weather wise. It can shower on one part of the track and be fully dry and sunny at the other end, so it's tricky to set your car up for these conditions. The Saturday was typically Spa: sunshine, rain, we've had it all. But the worst came at around 1 am, when mist came over the track, you couldn't see anything! And those guys kept on racing! I have a huge respect for those guys, I'd be scared shitless.

Anyway, went to bed (well...bed...my car) at around 3 am and slept like a baby, even with the racing sounds on the background. Woke up this morning smelling like shit, hot like hell and sweating like a pig. Thank God I brought deodorant and fresh clothes! Had a pancake breakfast at the track, some coffee and, ok, a couple of beers. Not too many though, because I had to drive back home.

I met up with Chris again, we watched some of the race, but I was so sore from all the walking that I left at about 2 pm. The race was done anyway and I needed a shower and a couch.

These events are nothing without the people, the fellow race fans. It's good to know that I can drive to an event, knowing there will always be good friends there, from England, Holland or Germany. There's always fun people around. You get together, have a couple of beers, talk bs, have a laugh. It's what makes you remember why you like these events so much. I go there, people are glad to see me, they've missed me (my last race was in September last year!) and really make me feel at home.

Among those people is Jan Lammers, who I worked for shortly when I was in the racing business. He's still my all time racing hero and it was good talking to him and his wife, I hadn't seen them in ages. We agreed to get together at a race in Zandvoort, the Dutch track. He's currently sharing a Ford Mustang in the GT4 Championship with one of the Dutch royal princes and the guy is definitely making progress. The prince I mean.

Oh, a Corvette won the 24 hour race by the way, with two Dutchies in it. Woohoo!

In my last blog I mentioned something about a professional breakthrough. Let me get into that a little more. I work at an ad sales company and I do sales and business development for them, which boils down to seeking new business opportunities for the company.

I have some experience in market research and thought there would be a market for multi client surveys in certain markets. I happened to be right, because the test case we ran went through the roof with a margin three times as high as with our ad sales and a turnover equal to 3 months ad sales in only one month.

Today it was decided this research department will be launched as a new company of which I will be the managing director with 20% stock.

Things are looking up guys! Tonight I'll celebrate!

I've spent some time rethinking my current life. I'm not really happy with the way it's going right now and I feel motivated to reorganize a couple of things to get back on track.

Friends
I miss my race friends like crazy and I've neglected our friendship over the last couple of months because my focus was on someone else (y'all know who I mean). What I miss about my race friends is that they are always genuinely happy to see me and talk to me. Welcoming, warm, no mind games.

I called my good friend John from Jupiter FL last Saturday. I always do that on race day at Le Mans. He told me he and his wife are going on a Mediterranean cruise in September and would board in Barcelona. I agreed to meeting them there and spend two days with them. It really made his day that we would meet again.

What a contrast with the person beside me during that talk. She doesn't give a rat's ass whether she sees me or not. The time has come to act accordingly and stop fooling myself it'll ever be any different. I've had it with testing myself and being tested to see how much I can take. I'm a great guy if I may say so myself and if you don't agree, get the fuck out of my life and stay out.

Work
I've been vegetating professionally since my own company went belly up last year. It's been hard motivating myself, being back to 9 to 5 schmuck status. Sure, it's a great company, run by friends of mine, but it was a blow to my self esteem I couldn't make it on my own.

Lately though, I'm getting more involved with the company management. They've made me responsible for business development and I recently came up with some new ideas that appear to be striking gold. In today's economy, that doesn't happen alot. It got me all fired up and focussed again. I feel stronger, more confident. It could mean a professional breakthrough and I won't let this chance slip out of my hands.

To remain focussed, I need to be surrounded by people who give me joy, friendship and support, the rest is history.

Yesterday night I took my friend Giselle on a night out, I wanted to surprise her with some exta effort, in a way to "reward" her for the positive changes she lately made in her life. That, and the fact that she's just great fun on a night out.

I had bought tickets for The Hague Jazz and had planned a dinner before that in a Korean restaurant (Giselle is currently studying both Japanese and Korean, hence the choice of restaurant). We agreed on Wednesday to go out on Friday and she said she was available from 6pm. So, I texted her "pick you up at 6?" at about 5pm. She didn't answer....a call, no answer. I was afraid the old Giselle had resurfaced (disappearing off the face of the earth from time to time) and getting hungry too, when at 7pm she still hadn't replied.

With steam coming out of my ears I placed my order at the McDrive and returned home. Then Giselle texted me at 8 pm she just got my message, turned out she fell asleep watching a movie. ;)

I picked her up at 10 (women need 2 hours to get ready) and then we headed to The Hague Jazz. It's a festival with, obviously, jazz, but also funk, soul and jazzy dance were played by bands in different areas of the conference center. I especially went there for Kraak & Smaak (check them out on Youtube), a dance sensation from Holland. When they do live acts, they have a singer too. Her name is Rose Spearman, I believe she's American Dutch, I'm not sure.

I've always been an avid fan of her voice, it's really powerful and soulful with a hint of Erykah Badu blended in there. On Thursday, I had sent her a friend invite on her MySpace and she accepted. I sent her a comment about the fact that I had once booked her for an event that went sour and that I lost track of her and was looking forward to the Friday gig.

OK, back to the festival. We had managed to squeeze ourselves to the front of the crowd and Kraak & Smaak and Rose were awesome. Very funky, uplifting music that gets a smile on your face. Rose moved our way on stage and looked me straight in the eye....was that a look saying "hey, I know you!", or was I fooling myself?

Giselle was dancing her ass off (we found it back later after the concert) and we met with two ladies, who invited us to the after party in a hotel nearby. Some of the artists who had played on the festival would be there, some live music of course and a nice open air area in a light summer breeze. It was perfect and classy, although  we felt a bit out of place, since we're not really the quintessential jazz fans.

And what do you know, I ran into Rose in the hotel lobby. I walked up to her to congratulate her on a great gig. Before I could say anything, she said "Hi Pieter!" WTF? She recognized me, how cool is that? I felt like a little boy that just got some ice cream. We exchanged some how do you do's and you're so greats. Well, the latter of course me sugar coating her.

Anyway, we went our separate ways and I didn't see her later anymore. Meh, I had the "Hi Pieter" in my pocket anyway. At 4am my age was getting the best of me, so I called it a night and took Giselle home. It was a great night out, but next time I'm taking Giselle to some other music festival. Music with some chest hair, if you will. Next stop: Rock Werchter with, among many others: Metallica. Have I told you that I like all sorts of music?

Until next time, adios and thanks for reading. Here's a video I found on Youtube, very similar to last night's experience. It starts with Rose with the fantastic keyboard player and after about 3 minutes it's party time, so show some respect for the band and see it all. Take it away Rose!

I shouldn’t have been there in the first place. About three weeks ago, one of my customers told he couldn’t pay my invoices for another two months and that really really hurt. Apart from the fact that being able to pay your bills is a nice thing, something worse was going on: I wasn’t able to buy myself a ticket to Florida for my 3rd consecutive Sebring 12 Hours. Man, I was so broke, I couldn’t even pay attention.

With lead in my shoes I got online at Sebringfans.com, told everybody what had happened and made some phone calls to my closest Turn 10 friends. Everybody really felt for me, which was comforting but it didn’t change my gutted mood. Then somebody on the forum suggested chipping in to get me there and things started rolling from there.

When I got the call next day from Rick Cutler, telling me they coughed up enough to buy me a ticket, I was moved to tears. From then on the race I love most was second to meeting up with the people I love most: my fellow race fans. You’re more than friends, you’ve shown to be like family to me and I will try anything within my power to return the big favour. If not soon, sometime for sure.

Back to the story. I needed a new passport. The Friday before the scheduled Tuesday morning departure I got the paperwork done, got some new photos for the passport and used the 24 hour service to pick it up on Monday.

When I got there on Monday, the passport wasn’t ready yet! "If you come back tomorrow, I’m sure it’ll be there", the clerk said. But, that was impossible, because my flight was at 8 am the next day. Oh well, reschedule the flight then. Cost me another $ 250, but what the hell, I’d come that far, I wasn’t going to back off now!

Got to the airport, got through customs, sat myself down in the airplane and off I went. I felt a tremendous feeling of relief when the plane was in the air. We got to Atlanta even half an hour early, so things were looking up! But then Delta of course came up with something to make my trip last longer. They had to change the fuel pump of my connecting flight to Orlando, which took another 3 hours.

Arrived at Orlando early in the evening where John Sutherland was waiting for me to pick me up. It was good sharing a moment to talk about Sebring, the fans and all that on our way to Sebring. I got the shivers going through the entry gate and we drove to our camp at Turn 10. John would join the Looney Tunes outfit and I got to Turn 10.

I MADE IT!!!!!!!!

More to follow...

I'm an admitted forum junkie. I can't restrain myself from having some laughs with people from all over the world or discuss more serious topics. I frequent various racing related forums, but since a couple of months I also visit the Love & Relationships forum on MySpace. It's a great time waster for shits and giggles!

Everybody knows the internet abbreviations to express certain feelings about a post, like ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing), LMAO (laughing my ass off) and LOL (laughing out loud). Usually, in reality all you get is a smile, but tonight something really cracked me up and I really had to wipe my eyes from laughing.

Let me give you a transcript of the topic

"Does it bother you when your dog watches you having sex?"

I thought the title was hilarious already, so I joined in:

me: I don't have that problem, my dog can't twist her neck that far.

Pharos: try spooning

me: Tried that, but she kept licking my face. That's gross.

Pharos: she's going after that rubber ball in your mouth. Common problem. I now put peanut butter on the top of her mouth, keeps her occupied

That really made me LOL and wipe the tears from my eyes from laughing. I know it's silly, but having belly cramps from laughing is sometimes better than sex. Thanks Pharos, I needed that. I would like to add I don't own a dog, so don't cancel our friendship over this.
