The Stooges did it. The Ramones did it. But the Triggers?

Yesterday Dirtnap Records signed an exclusive licensing deal with Railer Entertainment Music Licensing. Specifics are not available but the basics of this agreement seem pretty easy to understand. Bottom line: Portlander Ken Cheppaikode's hand-picked collection of new wave leaning punk bands just got marketable.

Railer specializes in representing punk rock artists — or the producers of punk rock artists — in deals to get their music into visual mediums like television shows, commercials, movies and video games. Could a Triggers' song sell SUV's? Not likely. But skateboards? Videos get made all the time. And what about the Exploding Hearts? Guitar Romantic is rife with mad jingle promise; those tunes could sell ANYTHING. All of which adds up to the possibility of some very serious paydays, for label and artist alike.

"If this even goes half as well as they are projecting," wrote Dirtnap's Ken Cheppaikode in an email, "it's gonna be a pretty good deal."
