with Dilla Dawg Rhettmatic, Karriem Riggins, & J Dilla @ Nightlife (5/12/05) Peace Everyone, It's a little bit early, but i'm pretty excited about this mix.... February is the month that everybody usually connects Valentine's Day with. But for me & for some other people, we consider February "Dilla Month", because it is the month that our fallen brother and one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time, James D. Yancey aka J Dilla, was born & passed away on that same month (Feb. 7, 1974 - Feb. 10, 2006). In honor & to celebrate the life & music of the honorable "Dill Withers", i decided to put my bid in for a tribute mix. I know there's going to be alot of Dilla tribute mixes out there, but i thought it doesn't hurt to add another one. Plus the Funky President himself, J.Rocc, asked me to do some exclusive mixes for his blog ( www.stoneyjackson.blogspot.com), so why not do a Dilla mix. It is appropriate given the occasion. Personally, i don't think there's no out there that can do a better J Dilla mix than my fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc.....the closest one next to him I would say is my brother from another mother, "Detroit's Finest" own, Dj Houseshoes, but yeah, here's my input. Anyways, this is a mini mega mix of some of Dilla's songs & production. I originally did this as a 10 minute mix for the mixtape project that J.Rocc, Houseshoes, & myself did with Dave New York 2 years ago to help out Mrs. Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes, Dilla's mother.....an incredible lady (if y'all know the name of the mix cd project, go head & get it......) So I extended this mix from 10 minutes to 35 minutes. It was pretty much impossible for me to get everything that Dilla did on this mix (he has such a big discography, it's ridiculous), especially for the fact I wanted to finish this before his birthday in such a short period of time. Of course, you'll hear some of the classic songs that Dilla has produced in the mix, but you'll also get to here some Dilla beats that you might have or have not heard before, and a live recording of Dilla performing "F*ck The Police" at one of his show in Europe (Paris, France to be exact) on his last tour ever (I was lucky & honored to be his tour dj for his last performances). Like I said before, I don't think anyone can do a J Dilla mix as great as J.Rocco's, but here's my mix for you to download...nothing really crazy. Please feel free to share with your friends & post it up on your music blog. I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I enjoyed making this. Thanks for checkin this out. WHATUPDOE 09 (The J Dilla MiniMegaMix) - by Dj Rhettmatic http://www.zshare.net/audio/55152872f9602029/You can also download the mix at J.Rocc's blog: http://www.stoneyjackson.blogspot.com. He has a 20 minute live Dilla mix to download as well. Also, please make sure to help out Ma Dukes as well. If you don't know the whole situation, please check out this link & read the article: http://stonesthrow.com/news/2009/01/the-battle-for-j-dilla-s-legacyIf you would like to help out & support Mrs. Yancey, please make sure to click on the following links. These are ways you can help donate money to her: http://stonesthrow.com/news/2009/01/raise-it-up-for-ma-dukeshttp://rensoul.com/madukes.phpHope you like the mix peoples. Happy Birthday Dilla.....it's been 3 years since you've been gone. We miss you Dilla...I love you bro. "Smoke weed with me man!" Peace Everyone, Here's a new mix for yall to download & listen to. I did this mix in conjunction with www.247hh.com. My man Jellow from Chrewd Marketing in Chicago reached out to me to do a little mix for the website he helped build; he was inspired by the KDAY mix that I sent out & wanted to do something with that type of vibe. It's a 30 minute mix with some Funk shit (not the P-Funk, but Funky Soul shit) & some classic & new Hip Hop shit. It's something to get your James Brown on. Go ahead & share with your friends....and please feel free to post it up on your music blogs as well. Hope you like it...enjoy! Beat Junkies - Japan 2002 (Melo-D, Rhettmatic, Babu, & J.Rocc) Peace Everyone, Happy New Years! I thought I share some old live recordings of the Beat Junkies to start off the new year..... This particular recording was a recorded live in Japan in the August of 2002. We were celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary of the Beat Junkies throughout the whole year.....the crew was founded in 1992 and we are probably the last of the remaining 3 major Turntabist crews that came out in the early 90's during the Turntablists/Battle Djs Golden Era. The Invisibl Skratch Piklz broke up and the X-Ecutioners no longer have the original member line up and went thru a couple of line up changes before they took a break (the X-Ecutioners later came back together with original members Rob Swift, Roc Raida, Total Eclipse with new members Precision & Boogie Blind....Mr. Sinister left the group after their 2nd album dropped). Also during that time, alot of stuff was going on with the crew. We officially started our label, Beat Junkie Sound, as well as making that transition into a small business corporation. We dropped a few vinyl singles as well as releasing the 1st Turntable Instrumental album by our fellow Beat Junkie, D-Styles. The breakthrough album was called "Phantsmagoria". J.Rocc, Melo-D, & myself were special guests on Dilated Peoples' "Expansion Team" album, recording a song with Babu called "Dilated Junkies". We were doing productions, dropping mixtapes left and right, & doing scratches for Hip Hop records. We dropped our 1st ever DVD called "Private Stash" and half of the crew (Babu, J.Rocc, Melo-D, Mr. Choc, Icy Ice, Curse, & myself) were on the airwaves, both on 2 major Radio stations in LA: Power 106 & 92.3 The Beat. We were still doing our monthly event, "Nightlife", at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood (we started NIGHTLIFE around 2001). Babu was pretty much involved with Dilated and myself with the Visionaries.....and for the most part, this was time when all four of us (Babu, Melo-D, J.Rocc, & myself or sometimes the combo would interchange with either Shortkut and/or D-Styles in the line-up as well) would still tour & perform heavily as a group. So fast forward to August 2002, Dilated Peoples & the Beat Junkies were asked to perform at the Technics' 30 Yr Anniversary to commemorate the 30 years that the Technics 1200 Turntable has been around in the business. Dilated & ourselves were the headliners, but we were also sharing the stage with Japan's very own Heavyweights: Dj Muro, Dj Krush, & Mighty Crown (Japan's top Reggae Soundsystem & the 1st Japanese crew to win the Reggae World Soundclash). We were able to extend our trip to throw a "NIGHTLIFE" event in Japan and to celebrate the Junkies' 10 Yr. Anniversary. My main man Koreishi (he used to work for a import company called "Metrolounge") helped to coordinate our 10 Yr Anniversary.......At the our Anniversary show, we had Dj Tashi (92 DMC Japan Champ) do an opening party rocking set and of course we had Rakaa Iriscience handling the mic duties. This was a 2 Hour performance/party rocking set; 5 turntables, 4 mixers, 2 Pioneer EFX500 boxes, & the real kicker.....RECORDS! Yes people, this was waay before the Serato explosion. Anyways, the first 5 minutes is basically us rocking a Turntable band set (basically all of us on one turntable each: Babu = Lead Vocals, Melo-D = Lead Guitars, J-Rocc = Percussion & Rhythm Section, & me = The Drummer). The rest of the mix is pretty much our individual party rocking sets gettin down, "Beat Junkie Style". Evidence (Dilated Peoples), Dj Muro, GM Yoshi, & Key-Kool (Visionaries) were in the crowd. So yeah, a little blast from the past for all you turntable junkies/dj afficinados...giving you a taste what we were doing in 2002. Just in case you're not familar with what the Beat Junkies were pretty known for or don't have a grasp what we were doing in the first 5 minutes of this recording, here's a youtube footage of us of our last Dj battle before we retired from the Dj battle competition circuit: THE BEAT JUNKIES - 1998 ITF WORLD CHAMPIONS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WwqTUq6--gHappy New Year again...enjoy folks. Peace Everyone,
It's usually calm before storm, right? Okay, it's a few hours left before we say good bye to 2008 & hello to 2009 and since then I have wrote a lil personal blog everytime for each new year to reflect on for the past 2 years....might as well go for a 3rd. Yeah, I usually get clowned from the crew for blogging my personal shit, and generally, I'm a private person (J.Rocc would call those personal blogs "Man Diaries"...LOL), but I kinda find them a lil therapeutic.
So anyways, it's amazing how 2008 is almost gone in a flash and alot has happened during this year. "Change" was the main word for this year....it was happening for me personally and it was definitely happening with the rest of the world. I always say this motto: "One thing that is sure in life is that Birth, Death & Change (as well as music & bills) are the most consistant things in Life"...and when it comes to the latter, it is oh so true right now. I've always known that change is going to happen regardless in 2008 within my personal life, but I would have never thought of what would come that will change & affect the face of politics and the history of the whole world. Ladies and Gentleman, we have a Black President in the United States. If that doesn't signify "change", I don't know what then. You can feel it in the air....the energy, the anticipation.
First, I had a little scare for my first and oldest Godson, Jordan (he's 16), who had an near death experience when he was diagonsed with a brain tumor that was a size of golf ball. It was definitely a stressful time for him and his family. Thank the Lord that the Doctors were able to take it out, but unfortunately, he now has to take Chemothearpy now. He still plays with his video games (I got him the James Bond 007 video game for Xbox 360...he was hella hyped) and still has fun like a normal teenage kid, so it's good that he has some type of normalcy in his life. I'm just so glad and thankful that he's still alive....he's a good kid and he deserves the best. I love you Jordan.
As for my personal life, well....it did kinda started a lil bit rocky. But as the months started to roll by, things were starting to pick up and come into fruitation. I was slowly gettin back into focus with my music and rekindling my passion for it last year.....now I'm so excited just to make new music, make a new mixtape, & even djing without having any pressure. I was able to work & record a couple of projects: Crown Royale with Buff 1and The Joint Chiefs with Frank Nitty of Frank N Dank, as well as doing some outside production for MED, OhNo & Roc C, Deep Rooted, Dannu of the Visionaries, Dynas, R&B/Gospel singer Tonex Williams, & soul singer Noelle Scaggs. I have just recently released a mixtape with the homie Khrysis, and just finished another one with MED, while still planning to do more solo mixtapes and more Beat Junkie mixtapes with J.Rocc & Babu. Plus i got a Producers' album to finish up with my man J-Rawls of Lone Catalysts, as well as revamping an old, unreleased album that I did with Aloe Blacc, which we did in 2004. So alot of these musical projects are just happening & finishing up now and will be official sometime in 2009.
When it came to my love life, well it wasn't very fruitful....I was still depressed and trying to move on from last relationship with my ex, which happened like 3 years ago. But now I can confidently say, that it doesn't bother me too much anymore and I'm pretty much happy just doing me. Of course, it can get lonely, but music has pretty much been my best friend and have been with me throughout the thick & thin of things in my life, so I ain't trippin. My relationship with my parents is also have became better, not saying it wasn't good in the first place, but I must say, I feel really close to them and feel connected to them in a very long time. My best friend Tyrone had another baby boy., as well as my other brother/fellow Beat Junkie, Shortkut had his first babygirl.....and he made me a Godfather to his daughter (Hi Mika...Ninong loves you!). My good friend Houseshoes is expecting his first son...his name is James DeShaun Buchanon; named after Dilla & Proof. Even before the year was over, I got some new eye-glasses to go with the new attitude in the new year. And finally, I was able to clean up my place (I've been only living in my spot for only a year and I haven't had a chance to fix it up) and get a new look-over, with the help of my parents....Mom's was being an interior decorator & Pops was helping me building some shelves for the studio. Having great parents & great family/friends like my best friends Tyrone & Eric and the Beat Junkies as well as a couple of people (sorry if I don't mention your names...yall in my heart anyways) as a support group, is definitely a blessing.
I must say, 2008 was a pretty good year.....in fact, 2008 was great, but 2009 is MY TIME! Well, actually people, it's OUR TIME! I hope to make major moves with all my peoples and to get that gwop....To connect with yall, helping each other to find happiness, to make some type of difference in this world, and make our dreams come true. I wish everyone a Happy Safe & Prosperous New Year. See you in 09.....

Rhettmatic, Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), & Ghostface Killah Peace Everyone, It's the day of Christmas Eve and I just wanted to give y'all one more treat for the holidays. This particular mix is called "36 DEADLY DARTS"....it's the official "Ghostface Killah Doll" Mix CD; well, it's supposed to be. Amish from 4Cast Unlimited reached out to me last year to make a mix with a collection of Ghostface songs that would be an accompaniment to the limited edition doll. A least 1,000 CDs were made; half Amish would pass out during the clothing trade shows such as Magic, the other half, I would sell while I was on the road. There were actually some Ghostface dolls made (and btw, they look dope, considering how expensive it was...i think retail was going for $200. The doll had a real Gold Chain.) The last time I heard, it was in production. Anyways, there was a buzz for the doll and I actually got a thumbs up from Ghostface for the mix, but for some reason, I don't think the official doll ever came out, nor the mix CD. It's been over a year and I haven't heard anything official of the release of the doll or the CD, so I decided, why not share it with you good peoples.....I really like the mix and I really put some work into this. It would be nice to have people actually hear it. If some of you good peoples actually have the official Mix CD with the official artwork and all, consider yourself lucky! So everybody, download the mix, share it with your friends, post it up on your music blogs (sorry Shake, 4Cast did the mixtape in conjunction with HipHopGame when it was supposed to come out, that's why you hear those HipHopGame drops....), & hopefully yall would like the mix. Thanks for peeping out this mix as well as the KDAY mixes and the Khrysis mixtape. Happy Holidays peoples...see you in 2009! Rhettmatic Beat Junkies Visionaries myspace.com/rhettmaticPS. Make sure you check out my fellow Beat Junkie, the Funky President, J.Rocc's music blog: stoneyjackson.blogspot.com. He has exclusive and unreleased mixes and music from him to download, as well as some exclusive Beat Junkie treats. Rhettmatic & Khrysis Peace Everyone, My good friend and producer extradinaire, Khrysis from the Justice League, and myself have done a mixtape project called "Khrysis On The Board With The Heat 2" over the summer (the first installment was done by Mick Boogie). Basically, it is a collection of all his production that he has done in the last year in a half. If you're not familar with Khrysis' work, he has done production for LIttle Brother, Sean Price, Heltah Skeltah, Evidence of Dilated Peoples (check out "The Layover"), & his own group The Away Team, just to name a few. Check out his creditentials: www.myspace.com/khrysisbeats. So think of this of a "Beat CD done in a mixtape format", freaked 'Beat Junkie Style' by yours truly. We orginally wanted to press this up, but unfortunately we never had a chance to, so we decided to leak it free to everyone for the Holidays as well as providing some material for people for the meantime while we both are working on our prospective projects. So please spread the word, share it with your peoples, post it up on your blogs, whatever you wanna do....we hope that you will enjoy this mix and we appreciate the love as well. Khrysis and myself will probably work on another mix in the near future when he is ready to drop his solo debut album, but for the meantime...enjoy. Happy Holidays people...see you in 2009.
