Current mood:STOKED!!
Avast!

Rio Bent has again taken to the sea of playing shows after a few months off. We had a great relaunch with NoMeansNo and Potty Umbrella on Friday at the Royale Banquet Hall, so thanks to all those involved in the organization/execution of the show, and all the people who came down and caught our (early) set, and an EXTRA SPECIAL thanks to NMN for having us on thier bill. What a fuckin' night! Currently we are booked in Whistler with Knucklehead and Battle Snakes for May 22, so all of youse whistler types best be there! We have been writing a ton, and the new stuff is pretty rockin', by the by.

Talk soon!

We played two shows in Alberta at the end of June and they were super awesome.

We played the Palomino in Calgary for Sled Island. We played with Stonehocker, Mark Birtles Project and Life Like Cobra. I was sick and passed out in the Van until roughly 20 minutes before we played but Kurtis and Dan assured me the bands were all mega sweet. I caught the last couple songs of Life Like Cobra and I can attest to them, they were gnarly and i'm looking forward to playing with them again.

We also played in Edmonton at the Pawn shop, which is a rad venue. We played with locals Of Angels who had just gotten back from a two month tour. On top of being really nice guys they were uber tight and nailed e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g (tight? nailed? i am harlequin romance!) Their heaving chests glistening in the stage lights.. uh.. srrrrsly. They were awesome and i'm glad that we opened.

I'm glad we got our shit together enough to make it to Calgary and Edmonton and we're planning on making it a more regular thing (revelations, i know). We'll definitely be touring again in late September/early October and are planning to go all the way to Winnipeg. Some of those dates will be with The Invasives, who are the best.

Also - if all goes as planned we'll be doing our CD release in September which means all those tour dates in sept/oct will be with our new disc!

yay!

Here are some photos from our March 22 show at Pub340. The photos were taken by Adam Smith, he’s a great dude who takes great photos and Rio Bent owes him about a lifetime supply of gin. Check him out at http://www.adampwsmith.com.

Everybody at the show on Friday knows how pants-off amazing it was. For those
of you who didn't make it out hopefully this awesome recap + your sadness for NOT coming = you crying yourself to sleep tonight!

Rio Bent started the night off and we did the stuff that we usually do (shaking our
hips, lip-synching, cartwheels)

Lozen played second, they are two girls from Tacoma that are responsible for "shitting out amazing five-minute experimental metal odysseys like little screaming shrapnel shit-babies in the shape of Flying V's." (thank you vice magazine for this inspirational quote) and I'm pretty sure that everybody wanted to wed them both like ASAFP.

Invasives headlined and about 14 seconds into their first song had already tore everybody a new one. They are so beyond everyone else making music that the only category that comes close to describing them is 'from the future'. This show was the CD release for their newest record and its radness even makes God cry. Good luck not getting 400 boners when listening to them.
CHECK THEM OUT NOW!

Hey doooods,

We just posted some awesome photos of us skinny white kids dressed up as skeletons! They are from our Halloween 07 show and they were taken by a cat named Adam PW Smith (not actually a cat)! He's a Vancouver photographer and he shoots tons of photos of bands and other events around town (and most likely where ever in the world he finds himself) and we are stoked to be part of his catalogue! Hooray for us!

Also we are going into mix our record starting on the 11th and Adam will hopefully be shooting some of it, so check back soon for more photos of our ugly mugs!

Check out Adam's website!

IN HARMONY MUSIC - BACK FROM THE DEAD!

Like an army of Zombies rising up from the earth in search of brains, the recent announcement that IN HARMONY music festival is back from the dead has Rio Bent buzzing with excitement! Anyone who has ever attended this event knows that it was a much loved and consequently much missed White Rock festival. The outdoor environment and the all-day-long eclectic mix of music makes it a great event for people of all ages and all walks o' life - with one common goal - to have a good time! The show is on SATURDAY AUGUST 25th and is being held at SoftBall City in South Surrey (near the skate park) DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!! And the kicker - they've decided this year to make the event FREE, how frigging awesome is that? About as awesome as Zombies.

August is a busy month for us Rio Bent kids, lots of shows and lots of trying to find a Vancouver rehearsal space to rent. If you have one maybe you'd like to lend it to us, I promise we'll show it a good time! We can wine and dine it, paint its fingernails, high five mid air... BUT ANYWAYS, back to shows, we've got a party show, a rockabilly show, an outdoor show, we've even got a Vancouver Island show! We're looking forward to all of them and hopefully so are you (or I'm totally going to cut your off from the mid-air high fives!)

As for le CD - I CANNOT WAIT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU GUYS!!!!! So hold tight.

Rio Bent likes the summertime.

We like to trick ourselves into thinking that we will maybe become less white and glowing over the next two months...

Recording is going good, we will be finishing up in the next few weeks.  Now we've gotta come up with a name for the cd....totally the hardest part...  I was thinking maybe like "hoses are kind of like fake snakes" or "arms are awesome" or maybe like.... "2+2=4 but math is for losers"..

Anyways, that's all I really have to report at the moment!  AND EVERYONE SHOULD COME OUT TO THE SHOW ON AUGUST 9TH BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE as fun as moustaches!

OK GUYS - IT'S TIME FOR EVERYONE TO CRACK OUT SOME HIPPY HIPPY SHAKES... WE ARE OFFICIALLLY IN THE PROCESS OF RECORDING OUR FIRST EVER FULL LENGTH RECORD!!!!

We've been in the studio now for a few days and it has been awesome. We're working with Blair Calibaba and Paul Forgues who are both super talented and tons of fun. The studio is like a wet dream - a house out of the 50's turned into a recording studio.

There is a lot of work still to come but we're excited for everything that lays ahead of us. I'll try to leave little giblets on this blog to let everyone know how it's going and post up pictures when I can.

Hope everyone is keeping well!
