This is kinda just thrown together.

Does the 'year zero' make any sense to you?

What IS history? How accurate is history? How do you know? What is it to 'know'?

What is New Years Eve exactly?

What is different about tonight than another night?

Supposedly it's a "new" "year"?

A year is simply a mathematical construct, a concept or a measurement, of the Earth going around the sun and the 'time' through which we experience this.

So what's changing, fundamentally and essentially, tonight? Nothing has really changed other than this mental measuring system we call a calendar, the rolling over of yet another number, treating Time as something linear and simultaneously treating our lives as cyclical - I feel both to be more like a spiral, like our DNA. How are we going to change the world for the better when every year we do the same stuff, think the same, get drunk (narrow your consciousness) on the same nights, etc? I digress.

Tomorrow is another new years eve, and the night of the day after is another new years eve. Yep every day is exactly a year's measurement from the "day" of the same number last year.

It's just more reinforcement of a calendar that is seriously out dated. And oh my we are ruled in this society by NUMBERS and this measurement of Time we use.

I don't think people truly give a good value on the actual impact a calendar has on their lives and the life of society in general. Many more natural people, natives and aborigines, use Time in completely different manners and for completely different reasons. Some celebrate what we call birthdays not on the same day every year, but when they feel they have personally evolved, overcoming obstacles and self. Some have several calendars, measuring not only celestial bodies and the time they take to move and circle each other, but rather more metaphysical events, both within the 'tribe' and without.

"Time is money"?? I'd rather puke.
From a website: "The word "calendar" itself is derived from the Latin word calendarium meaning "account book", the first day of every Roman month being "calends" or the date of the payment of detbs. This confirms the depths of the societal programming that "time is money."

Why is OCTOber the 10th month instead of the 8th, and NOVember the 11th rather than the 9th? Sept is 7, Deca is 10. Look it up :) Why do we still use the same names of the months, when clearly this example is out of sync numerically. We're still using a calendar with months named after Julius and Augustus Caeser... a calendar that isn't entirely accurate as regards actual natural events and cycles.

If our entire conception of time is out of sync, then what are we??

Do people celebrate New Years as a chance to "start over"? I'm not particularly fond of this phrase, why not "keep going" but just differently? Starting over implies regrets... rather than evolving through regret.

What is this Julian-Gregorian calendar we use? I bet most people don't even know the name of the calendar they base their entire lives by. I liked when, in the movie The Truman Show, the character of the Director said something like "people automatically accept the reality with which they are presented." Says a lot.

But honestly, I really think people just do this every year because "that's what's done every year" - it's what everybody else does. Just because we still use the Julian/Gregorian calender means everybody gets drunk? Why does one need an excuse to do something?

...I just tire of rituals-for-ritual-sake.
