Roy Wood Jr  Chicago TV Taping , L.A. Show & Knoxville Info.

It’s TV Time again.

For those of you in the Chicago area this coming weekend I’ll be a part of the ‘Just for Laughs Chicago Comedy Festival’ The TBS network will be shooting their new comedy show ‘A Very Funny Show’ hosted by Tim Meadows (*Saturday Night Live, The Ladies Man*)  The show will be taped in front of a live crowd at Zanies Comedy Club in downtown Chicago.  (*My first appearance there since being kinda sorta ‘banned’ back in 2003. Long story*)

This is the first year of this festival so those of you in the area please do come out and support. Even if you can’t come to my show there will be a bevy of shows that entire week with performances from the likes of Mike Epps, Kevin Hart, George Lopez, Bill Engvall, Damon Wayans Jr, Martin Short, Russell Peters, and John Pinette. Comedy works better when people are present. Your presence keeps us employed.

For More Festival Info..

For Ticket info on my show…

I’m ONLY performing on the June 20th 9:15pm Show.

My Brother will be having a birthday party in Chicago earlier that day so I’m liable to be slightly tipsy before going on stage that evening to perform in front of millions of Americans. The network has asked me to “soften up” the girl scout cookie joke.  I promised them I would (wink wink). A half drunk rebel holding a microphone on television? How could you pass this up?

If you only have $10 then please lie to someone you love and get the other $15.  $25 is the same amount of money you were planning to spend on some crappy movie this weekend anyway. Plus you’ll get to see yourself on TV in a comedy Club. Won’t that be fun?

Those of you that have been to Zaines before know that the club is SMALL. So I STRONGLY recommend you getting your tickets ASAP.  If you are in Chicago and have wanted to see me live. This is probably your ONLY opportunity for the forseeable future. Zanies hasn’t booked me in 6 years and who knows if the people at Jokes and Notes have even opened the 4 promotional packs that I’ve sent them over the past two years. If I’m ever back in Chicagoafter next weekend it’ll be a show at a community college in the suburbs or because I have Cubs tickets.

After the show lets all walk over to the waterfront and take a piss in Lake Michigan…or go back to my brother’s house to crash what’s left of his birthday party. I’m sure he will have punch and pie…and vodka.

Come to this TV Taping. Or Jesus will give your first born child gingivitis.

“You’ll be  a part of history. A small part of history that very few people will be familiar with, or give a shit about. But history none the less.”- Doug Stanhope.

PRANK CALL REQUEST TIME

Hey gang ! I’m back in Birmingham for a few days and will be in studio during that time doing new prank phone calls. If there’s someone you’d like for me to prank call please go to the following link. Or scroll further down for info on how to submit.

3 for $25 Prank Call CDs

Speaking of prank calls. I’ve been asked here and there when I plan to release a new CD Project. As of right now I’m eyeballing this summer/fall as a release date for a new CD.

Here’s the problem…

I can’t decide on whether or not to do a Stand-up or Prank Call CD. Some have suggested a double CD. But I’m no superstar so I’m not sure if people can tolerate 2 hours of me on CD. None the less I’ll come up with something that appeases those of you that enjoy my comedy and those of you who enjoy the pranks.

In the meantime you can purchase all three of my past CDs. For $25. Flat . No charge for postage. Order away on my merchandise page.

Enjoy.

HAVE SOMEONE YOU WANT ME TO PRANK ???
As you can see from the picture I'm hard at work in the studio....not. Time for new prank calls.
Now...If you have someone you want me to prank then
BEFORE YOU E-MAIL ME please read the guidelines...
You MUST be 18 or Older to request a prank.   Period.    No Exceptions.
Please e-mail me the following
1)- Your name and two contact numbers where you can be reached
2) The person you want me to prank and two numbers on them.
3) Some info on the person you want me to prank. (* Kids, Occupation, Recent spats w/ people or businesses etc.*)  If you have a specific scenario then please give me that. Otherwise just throw me some general info so that I can come up with a scenario myself.
4) A good time to call you and this person.
Simply e-mailing me doesn't initiate the prank. You will hear from me BEFORE I do the prank.
NOTE: I prank call people for fun. Do not suggest that I prank anyone that can't take a joke. I do not prank call people to help you exact some sort of revenge. I'm not going to call your ex-husband to tell him you failed an AIDS test.  I'm not going to tell someone that their kid died. (* Yes both of those were real requests I've received *)
If there's someone in your life that you hate, then go throw a brick at their house or open up a few credit cards in their name or something. Don't pull me into your drama.
PLEASE NOTE...
IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE ALL OF THE ABOVE INFO IN YOUR E-MAIL, IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED
I'm not doing this to be a prick, but I check EVERY e-mail myself (* up to 100 per week*) and following up with 20-30 people a week to obtain info from you that you might have left out creates a cumbersome process that really slows things down.
Naturally I can't do every prank asked of me but I do my best to give them all a fair consideration.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS..
Q: How long after I e-mail you can I expect a reply?
A: I have no idea. There's no science to this. I wish there was.  As of right now, considering that I live in Los Angeles now I can only do my pranks when I'm back home in Birmingham. You could e-mail me one day and I might call you back that afternoon. or You could e-mail me and not hear from me for a month or so.
Once I get some studio access in Los Angeles then I'm sure I can do new pranks on a more consistent basis but for now this is the arrangement. But for now I can only do them when I'm in Birmingham. It's just me people. No staff, no assistants, no secretary.

Q: If I don't live in a listening area of one of your prank affiliate cities how can I hear the prank? -
A: If I prank someone for you then I will e-mail you a copy of the prank call once all the legal mumbo jumbo is worked out. Regardless of whether or not you live in one of my 40 affiliate cities.

Q: Do You Prank people who don't live in your affiliate cities?
A: If they have a phone, and they'll answer it, and they live in America,  Then I'll prank them. It's just that simple.  (* The only exception to this rule is U.S. Troops who are serving abroad. I'll prank them *)

- Los Angeles Show THIS MONTH!!

Been all over the place the past month or so people. My apologies for the prank update delays. Someone thought it’d be a great idea to try and throw a virus at me. Thankfully the people that know more about web design than me were able to keep this from happening but none the less servers had to come off line for a while.   I’m still on Myspace, and Youtuhe etc. but I’ve also given in and succumbed to facebook and twitter.

I’m not that big a fan of twitter. Probably because it’s a digital account of just how little I do everyday, but none the less I have to do it or I’m sure some cornball TV won’t book me because I’m “Not connected to the American people” LOL  Follow me and add my facebook fan pag.

A good friend from college died last week. Early returns are pointing towards him having a heart attack in his sleep. I’m sure there will be weeks of toxicology reports to get to the bottom of things but It caught me off guard because big Kev was only 30. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />....

.. ..

I don’t get to see much of anything when I travel. I’m ashamed  to say that there’s some cities I’ve been to I’ve yet to see any of their sites. There’s always radio or promo, or sleep, or me shooting a blog that creates an acceptable enough excuse to not do much of anything social. This includes seeing friends. ....

.. ..

I rarely play Tallahassee. Which is funny considering that my first few years of comedy were spent splitting time between Birmingham and Tallahassee comedy clubs. As I matriculated through the comedy clubs of the southeast I found myself working Tallahassee less and less. Finally the club in town closed. By the time a club reopened  I had relocated to Los Angeles and had a bit of a falling out with the comedy club booker for that region. ....

.. ..

It was because of this I didn’t get back to tallahssee too often. If I did, it was usually because I had a college gig somewhere the panhandle. ....

.. ..

A lot of my friends from college still reside in Florida so it’s a must that I try and catch up with them. I was last in Tallahassee in January of this year. I only had a few hours in town because I had to be in Daytona for a wedding. I called up my man Cudda who I hadn’t seen in at least 5 years.  We went out for drinks and sat up at his house and  talked shit for a few hours. We talked about Big Kev for a quick min and I asked about him. ....

.. ..

Cudda suggested that we swing by his crib real quick to say whaddup. I looked at my clock and did the math and deduced that I would need to get out of Tallahassee within the next 10-15 minutes or else I’d hit traffic in Jacksonville en route to Daytona.  I decided I’d get at Kevin the next time around. ....

.. ..

Traffic….fuckin traffic. ....

.. ..

Funny how things like this make you assess if you’re truly giving your all in other aspects of your life. Outside of comedy, I can name a single thing that I’ve truly commieted to 100%. Not even friends. That’s about to change across the board. ....

Birmingham YMCA Youth Center
I had a chance to do something really cool last week. The Downtown YMCA in Birmingham (2400 7th Ave. N. / Across from Marconi Park) does a Career Speaker Program every Friday afternoon at 4pm.
The gist of the event is pretty cut and dry. You get up and talk for about 10 minutes about what it is you do for a living. And then you turn around and take questions from the children for about 10 minutes. Then for 10 minutes you eat Domino's Pizza's and drink cheap soda.

The children in attendance range from 5th-8th grade and they are all from Birmingham's inner city, many have over come extraordinary circumstances to get to where they are now. Things ranging from sexual abuse, drug addicted parents, to being raised in the state's foster care system.

Asst. Program Director, Ryan Waguespack Goal is to simply expose inner city children to a multitude of career choices to better open their minds to the many positive avenues that await them on the other side of adolescence. Hearing this from people that work and live (*and in most of our cases*) grew up in the same neighborhoods as these children can impact them more.

Ryan, has been catching hell trying to get people in every Friday to speak to these children. It perplexes me that Ryan can't get people in to speak to these children. If I told you some of the names he's given me that he's emailed that either shunned him or simply did not reply you'd scratch your head in confusion.

Your occupation is irrelevant. Doesn't matter if you're a model, rapper, banker, TV Personality, radio DJ, or Carpet Cleaner. 2 Weeks ago a garbage man from the Dept. of Sanitation went to speak to the children.

When it comes to pulling harp strings we all like to think that the cause we champion is the most important and get offended if other's don't get in line with us. I'm not approaching any of you from that angle. We all do what we can when we can. And hey, maybe you already do something that contributes to the betterment of the Earth and you don't feel the need to jump in with what Ryan is doing.

I completely understand.

All I'm saying is, If you're free on a Friday at 4pm. Or can take a late lunch at work one day. Go and do this. give Ryan a call or send him an e-mail and let him know that you're interested in giving him 30 minutes of your time. (*20 Minutes if you don't like Domino's Pizza*)
