XIU XIU

He has a voice that thunder would envy and a presence that would snap the gods to attention. Jamie Stewart is the singer-songwriter of the driving force XIU XIU along with bandmate Caralee McElroy.

Not many artists can stir up emotions the way XIU XIU execute in their music. " You would have to hear it for yourself . " I could only tell you that their music is passionate, powerful, striking, untraditional, tragic, edgy, hypnotizing, loud and beautiful. If XIU XIU doesn't push your buttons, they will do it for you.

You never know what to expect. When I first started listening to XIU XIU ,I would find myself yielding next to the volume control.  Jamie's lyrics are so explicit combined with the muscial arrangements that you don't know which part will strike first blood on you.

It's even more amazing to see their live performance with just two people performing on stage. The masterpiece of Jamie's brillance is not only the lyrics but the way he contrasts his voice with the electronics. He also can be hauntingly subtle.

His forthcoming full-length album titled " The Air Force " produced by Deerhoof's Greg Saunier is set to appear in September and EP covering Nina Simone, OMD, Nedelle, Alex Chilton, Bauhaus, This Mortal Coil, and Elliot Smith. By the way Jamie, I love your cover of Joy Division's "Ceremony."   XIU XIU will also be performing in NYC this Fall. So get your kevlar vest ready.

Jamie has also been kind enough to answer eight of my questions not related to music.

What impressed you the most with NYC?
That is lives upto it's reputation but is still surprising.

And when do you plan in returning?
  In October.

What's a typical Jamie Stewart weekend?
Being self employed. I have no weekends.

What types of food and dessert is your favorite? And least favorite dish?
Yes!!!! To watermelon and then NO!!!! To white asparagus (sp?) with mayonnaise.

When Jamie has a guest over his house, he serves........ (fill in the blank)
Well that goes without saying doesn't it.

Jamie thinks of .......... (fill in the bank) when he is in the bathroom taking a number 2.
I hate wiping my ass so much why does God do this to me.

Last good deed that Jamie did was ............... (fill in the blank).
  Volunteering at prisoners literature project.

The first thing Jamie do in the morning when he wakes up is.......
  Look out the window.

What tips do you have for American tourists visiting your hometown?
   Go to San Francisco instead.

as well you are at my house and i can hear you. just come in. you will regret it.
