NinjaGirl Productions has just launched it's new website, featuring among other indie games, Sachi's Quest.  There's also forums and other spots for indie game devs to showcase their work. So go there now and show some love.

A while back, someone was giving some somewhat constructive criticism on the Sachi's Quest demo.  Unfortunately, it was mostly complaints about the ease of one level, the difficulty of another level, and the fact that once you die, you sometimes have to do a lot of walking to get back to where you were.

Now, first of all, I do listen to and respect any and all healthy criticism I recieve, I really do. However, relevant to this particular criticism, I would like to point out two things:

  1. The full version of the game comes with a very powerful and fully functional in-game mission editor.

  2. When you buy the full version of Sachi's Quest, it is YOUR game.

If you feel there's to much walking in a level, throw in a jet pack… too many bad guys, throw in some more powerful guns… not enough bad guys, throw in more bad guys or take away some guns.

It's your game and it's not cheating... and even if it were, who the heck cares?  I want people to feel free to do whatever they want with this game and enjoy themselves.  Not to say that the mission editor is a cheap out for any poor level design on my part, but it is a tool to further enjoy the game you paid for, and do so however you wish.

So when you buy Sachi's Quest, please don't forget there's a whole other universe in there that you can play man or god with… and by God, please have fun when you do.

A good friend, fellow indie dev and insane World of Warcraft addict has recently kicked off his new WoW blog.  If you're a fan of all things World of Warcraft… or a fan of any thing World of Warcraft… or just some things World of Warcraft… or um… just things World of Warcraft, go check it out and give him a couple hits.

Over the past several months, several people here on Myspace, as well as other online communities, have contacted me with job opportunities related to game programming, or have emailed with questions on programming topics.  While I am very happy to share my knowledge with anyone interesting and friendly, I'm sorry to say that I am not a game programmer.

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone who produces a video game is a programmer, even in the independent market.  Sometimes labels such as "business person" or "artist" fit a lead developer better than "programmer". I know it's contrary to a fairly logical assumption that game developers have been stigmatized with, but in the case of my game, that's the reality.

If you have a paying gig doing game-related artwork or animation, I'm probably the person you're looking for, and if you need a coder, I can point you in a direction or two...
...but just so no one else wastes their time: All of the "real programming" done on Sachi's Quest was not done by me.

Thanks to those people who have been complimenting the new Sachi model featured in the profile image.  I just put her on a new T-shirt (click below), and yes, I will be using this new Sachi for upcoming Sachi's Quest game projects recently in development.  I'm hesitant to say too much about the next Sachi game, other than the fact that it most likely will not be another first-person adventure/shooter.

For an undecided amount of time, I've decided to drop the price on the Downloadable Version of Sachi's Quest to only $11.

That's right folks, only 11 bucks for a moddable 3D action game complete with a mission editor!

Why only 11 bucks?  What logic behind such a strange drop in price?

Not much logic... just a strange inside joke that only certain people will get.

As seen in a recent bulletin...

During the week of the Fourth - July 2 to July 8 -
For each copy of Sachis Quest that is sold, $3 will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.  Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical charity that invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership, building homes with and for families in need.  They are one of many groups still helping to rebuild the Katrina-ravaged portions of the US, while also helping folks who suffer in other countries, like the tsunami-devastated portions of Asia.

Also, on July 2:

The price for Sachis Quest will be dropped from $19.95 to $14.99.

So, its win-win.  You can get a cool game pretty cheap, while helping those in real need.

Have a Happy and Safe Fourth, everyone!
