Well, as most of you probably know, we fell a few hundred dollars short with our Transport #70 fundraiser. In order to save these puppies and get them to rescue, we dipped into our funds from our recent Auction fundraiser. So these puppies are SAFE! :)
However, we are very concerned about funding the transports during the rest of this summer. Fundraising is always difficult this time of year, and this year is proving to be particularly tough for us. We want very much to keep our transport program running and saving dogs through the summer.
In order to do that, we NEED you all to help. We know everyone is broke, and we're pretty much broke too. But the puppies in Murray & Cherokee Counties and homeless dogs throughout Georgia are depending on all of us!! Please PLEASE continue to donate whenever possible and spread the word during these critical next few months, so that together we may keep SSP's Transport program up & running!!
Our supporters mean the world to us, and to the animals we help. Below are the pups that were saved in Transport #70 because of your dedication and your generosity. Thanks as always for your continued assistance in our work.

Transport
#69 fundraiser update, May 14 -
ALL DOGGIES ARE SAFE!!
Well, it came right down to the wire, and at the end we were still a little bit short, but we know everyone is as broke as we are right now - so we've declared it "close enough"!!
A big BIG thanks to everyone who dug deep into their hearts (and their wallets!) and made this another successful fundraiser for the animals!!
And to everyone who donated, cross-posted, told friends, and wished for good karma - YOU are the reason these dogs get a second chance at a good life!! SSP supporters are AWESOME!! :)
Please take another look at the lives we saved together in this transport effort...
Charlie

This fluffy little Chow mix just craves attention and cuddling - he actually cries sometimes when you talk to him! He needs to be in a loving home, not sitting all alone in a shelter.
Sam

Alert eyes, wagging tail, HUGE paws - yep, it's a Lab pup!! All Sam wants is someone to love. Please help Sam get to rescue so he can find a Lab family to take him home and love him, and so he can adore them forever.
Reggie

This sweetie lost his first home because his family didn't feel like taking care of his skin condition. The vet says it's nothing more than allergies, and he just needs a second chance. With your help, we can do that!
Willow
(we never did get a picture of this little diva!!)
Willow is camera shy so we don't yet have a picture of her - but we're told she is an adorable little Shar Pei princess!! And a shelter is NO place for a princess. Let's get her north to find a family she can reign over and call her own!
Nero

Look at those eyes and that sad hound face - need we say any more! This poor boy clearly wants to get out of that cage and into a home with a family that loves him. How can we turn him down?
Oliver

Attention Doxie lovers!! Oliver is a pure-bred Doxie, and will surely be adopted in a flash from a rescue the Northeast - we just need the funds to get him there. Can you help?
Mojo

This lovable little guy is a JRT mix - and he's going stir crazy in the shelter. Let's get him out of there and into a home that will give him plenty of space to run and jump and play!!
Blue Heeler Pups, litter of 3

These three fuzzy kids are Puppy Promises puppies, looking for funds for their big trip north. They heard that families in the Northeast will love them and take care of them, and they know that nobody in Georgia wants them. Please donate so they can travel on this next transport.
Pittie pups, litter of 10

What's cuter than a wheelba
rrow full of Pittie puppies? Not much!! SSP has two rescues that will take care of these kids from Puppy Promises. Many Pitties never stand a chance in Georgia or anywhere else, so please help us get these little ones on their way to a better life.
Ridgeback pups, litter of 7

These guys certainly look like a big tub full of cuteness and fun! It's not their fault that their family can't take care of them and doesn't want them. But, with your help, we can get them into loving homes to call their very own.
Ridgeback pups, litter of 3

Yes, it's another litter of Ridgeback pups! These fuzzy kids are waiting patiently and dreaming of traveling north, to find loving homes and families of their own. Will you help SSP make their dreams come true?
SSP extends a sincere thanks to you for your donations and support!!

This fundraiser is critical to SSP!! PLEASE help us help them, and so that we may continue to rescue more in the future. Donations of any size are welcome - every little bit helps!! SSP Transport #69 is gearing up to head north!! Our Spring Auction starts in less than two weeks!! This is a great opportunity for you to help SSP without sending us any of your hard-earned cash. For this event, we are seeking in-kind donations to add to our online auction catalog - new or gently used household items, artist or artisn creations, articles of sale from your business, gift cards or certificates, etc. Let SSP turn those items into cash to help the animals!! Last fall our auction raised over $1500, and we'd like this one to be even bigger!! All proceeds from our spring event will benefit our Puppy Promises program. There is still time to donate items, but we need to hear from you SOON to get them listed in time for the event kick-off.
If you would like to donate an item, or if you have any questions about the auction event, please send an e-mail to info@savingshelterpets.com. Here's the link to our catalog so far: SSP Auction - Spring '09 The bidding begins Monday, May 4, at 8am EDT. Help us make this event our biggest fundraiser ever!!

For anyone who doesn't already get our newsletter, here's the latest edition (from last week). Enjoy!!
~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings from Saving Shelter Pets! Well, the daffodils are blooming, the robins are back, and the sun is starting to feel a little warmer. We’re shaking off the blustery cold of the last few months, and we hope that spring is making its way into your neighborhood too.
Spring Auction Event – Call for Items SSP is holding an online auction again this spring, and we’re looking for donated items to put up for bidding! Our auction last fall was a lot of fun, and it raised over $1500 for the animals too. We hope this one will be even bigger and better! The event kicks off May 4th and will run through May 18th with all proceeds benefiting our Puppy Promises program.
UPDATE, Monday, April 20 - Woo hoo!! We received all funds, so Zoey and her puppies are SAFE!! Thanks to everyone who donated, cross-posted, sent positive energy, etc. Jeanette will be so VERY grateful to know that her little doggie family will be going to a safe rescue instead of an uncertain fate in the local shelter. SSP is truly fortunate to have you all working with us - together we can make great things happen!! Have a fantastic week!! :)Below is an email that was forwarded to us by a fellow rescuer. The original letter comes from a wonderful woman, Jeanette, in need of help for a momma dog ("Zoey") and her 6 puppies that she had rescued but is unable to find homes for. We have found a no-kill rescue in the Northeast willing to take this family, provided we can raise the sponsorship to cover full vetting for all 7, spay surgery for Zoey, and transport costs to the Northeast. If you would like to help this momma dog and her 7 pups, please visit our website to make a donation towards their care: http://savingshelterpets.com/index_don.htmlAmount needed: $525 Raised so far: $535 Still needed: FULLY SPONSORED!!
Jeanette's plea for help:
My name is Jeanette and I would like to give you a short story of a severe situation I have been.
In November of 2008, I found two fine dogs crossing a busy street that I live on and I knew that if I didnt bring them in, they would be killed and I have seen this on my street many times. We tried very hard to locate the owners of theses dogs but without any success.
My next step was to call all animal "no kill" shelters but in Georgia there is no available room for dogs anywhere. Unfortunately, to make matters worse I'm very ill with a terminal lung disease. I opted against a lung transplant and have been very blessed to live beyond the years given by my doctors; but I can tell that I am getting weak and tired and it's impossible for me to take on any other responsibilities with dogs as I have one of my own and two other rescues. Also, I have no room nor the financial means with which to take on this added responsibility of these fine dogs and wonderful dogs.
The female dog is a Rhodesian Richback and the father is a Yellow Lab and Akitu - two extremely beautiful and intelligent dogs. I was very fortunate to find a good home for the Father with a well-to-do family that could meet all his needs in every way.
Unfortunately, the female was pregnant and I could not place her so I kept her until she had the puppies on January 21, 2009. All six of them were born healthy and beautiful.
To this point they have been de-wormed, paper trained and potty paper trained. They are also going to be highly intelligent dogs. It amazes me how quick they learn something new everyday at the early age of two months.
Attatched to this email are pictures of the parents and the puppies. It will be painful enough to say goodbye because I love them with all my heart.
These puppies are wonderful and have known nothing but love, hugs and kisses, since the day they were born. I know they will be nothng but a pure blessing and joy to anyone that is lucky enough to adopt them.
Thank you and GOD bless you for sharing the love of dogs as I do.
Sincerely, Jeanette
