because since that day The Flying Luttenbachers are no more. You'll find all the reasons here. To sum it up, it was a mixture of false felt motivation to go on and the lack of interest of a significant public and therefore financial support.

Personal note: the Flying Luttenbachers were one of the most influential bands of my youth. Apart from the John Zorn projects Naked City and Painkiller, they showed me what music could sound like apart from Crossover, Hardcore, Alternative Rock etc. Them ,U.S. Maple and God (Kevin Martin, Justin Broadrick et al) showed me a way of being musically intense without the macho touigh guy attitudes of bollock bands like Biohazard, Pantera and the like.

So thanks, Flying Luttenbachers, for being a nerve shaking, mind altering, exhausting band, in short for everything you've ever been and hopefully will be!

Farewell and Good Luck! Especiall to you, Weasel Walter. But also to all your comrades on the crusade for a freer music in a more and more unfree society.

... I love Nadja!

Nadja's the brain child of Aidan Baker and now run in cooperation with Leah Buckareff. Together they use bass guitar, drum computers, guitars, keyboards etc to create a shoegazery, ambienty version of doom metal. And it doesn't sound half way as shitty as this reads. I've been spending listening to their music most of the little spare time I had in the last few months. And now that summer has ended and fall has taken over their music fits even better to my moods and daily routines. It gives me warmth that is hard to describe as Nadja's music is not melody ladden or optimistic or anything like that, but it is like the chilling cold after a hot summer day or a heater on a rainy fall day. Whatever, they are great and they have a couple of recent or upcoming releases. There's an album called Desire in Uneasiness that should be out somewhen on Crucial Blast, who also brought us Genghis Tron and the Orthrelm split with Behold... The Arctopus and some other stuff. Then there is another release called Radiance of Shadows on Alien8 Recordings, who signed responsible for the the release of the first real Nadja studio album Truth Becomes Death. There will also be some more rereleases of early sold out cd-r's. There is also a recent split release with german noisemongers Datashock released as Aidan Baker, Leah Buckareff & Datashock, which should be sold out already, but maybe you can manage to get your hands on a copy somewhere.

For now my favourite Nadja records are: Truth Becomes Death, Thaumogenesis and I've tasted the Fire Inside Your Mouth. I have to confess that there isn't really one release that I don't like, but these three are just a little more outstanding than the others.

Next time i will try to switch away from pure fan mode a bit - or I won't...

August sees a shitload of interesting releases. On top of it all a new Pechsaftha record. There's also a new Giardini di Miro album coming, which could just live up to its title Dividing Opinions, reviews tell that there's only one song without vocals, so... ah, I don't know what to do with that, I'll give that definitely a try. Then there's a new one from Pinback. Huzzah! At the 31st the second record of the only new (german singing) punk band I really liked is going to ship, it's the Schneller Autos Organisation. EA80 put a new record out, too, it's called "Reise". There's also a new Oxbow album out there.

And then the cherry on the topping is the self titled album by the Liars! Hooray. Reviews so far say that it has in regard to the über-record Drum's Not Dead "real" songs, mmh. Seems not only an interesting month music wise, but also looks like there are some decisions to make, like on which of these to spend money and so forth.

When I've listened to some of the stuff, I'll try to post a review. Another - probably borken - promise...

Yesterday the german magazine Der Spiegel covered an american survey, that aimed to explore why people have sex. Of course, there are apart from the usual chitter chatter like "I wanted to end the relationship", "The person had a lot of money", "It's fun" or "I was 'horny'" some more obscure reasons like "I was attracted to the person", "It feels good", "I was curious about my sexual abilities" or "I wanted to communicate on a 'deeper' level".

But one answer just totally knocked me out: "I wanted to feel closer to God." But only after marriage, right, Maria Magdalena?

Kanye West offers a alternate version of his video "Can't Tell Me Nothing". It features Zach Galifianakis lip syncing the part of West and Will Oldham as his sidekick. Just a funny missetting of HipHop's bling bling into a rual, probably amish, surrounding.

btw, Will "Bonnie "Prince" Billy" Oldham is sporting a moustache of vast dimensions

OK, as you could have read here long long ago the Battle of the Blogs took part and it was finished four weeks ago and i promised to post some or all of the stuff i'd write fpr it, so... I didn't do that. Mainly because I was too lazy. Weak excuse, I know. SORRY! But at I least I managed to score some points and make the last place. Yeehaw!

Here you can get the results in detail. (only in german, sry)

I'll give you some outline of what I did during the BotB. Most of all I battled myself, i.e. I tried to do a review of some of the CDs, LPs and DVDs I bought in the last few months and every review oughta match 10 lines in the blogger post editor. First of all, I managed to write 14 reviews each 10 lines in length. Hooray for me!

I did reviews of two of the latest Wolf Eyes records (Human Animal and Black Wing over the Sand), Deerhoof's Friend Opportunity, Bright Eyes' Cassadaga, The Skull Defekts' Skkull, The Notwist's On/Off the Record, Growing's Vision Swim, Mouthus' Follow This House, We Jam Econo - The Story of the Minutemen etc. As I bought all this stuff I praised almost all the records/DVDs, except the latest Bright Eyes' one, cause I'm rather unimpressed of the ear charming folk pop that they developed into, but hey it's better than radio, so if you're in a chilly mood, it might be the right choice. The Mouthus, the Growing and the Deerhoof records are def Top10ers of the year! So and get them, if you haven't already. Deerhoof should be a save bet for at least any one! To get into Growing or Mouthus you should have a faible for Noise or Drone stuff. They are both good starting points to get into that kind of stuff.

I'll try to keep this blog more frequently updated than I did in the past, I promise. ;)

It's nearly over, but this fine young man developed the idea of an annual day of denglish. So, what's that supposed to mean? This year's 1. International Day of Denglisch celebrates the mixture of german and english, which mainly strives against the idea that german should be kept pure from english words. Which is utter crap, cause it's neither useful, e.g. web2.0 etc, nor are the underlying ideas of those striving for a pure, clean german language in any way support worthy, as they usually follow some antiamerican impulses that fantasise about the loss of a unique german identity.

Let's celebrate the impure, unclean way of live and communication!

On the 06/01/07 the annual Battle of the Blogs (BotB) will start. Last year Schnurbärte sind bäh made an honorous second to last place. I'll try to score better this year! If I try real hard, probably i'll make it last one or so.

I really have to excuse to the non-german speaking readers of my MySpace-Blog, cause the BotB07 will only have texts written in German. :( But I'll do my very best to translate the better part or even all of my posts.

Now, here you'll get the results of last years BotB. Here you can learn about the basic rules (here you'll find the short version of the rules) and here are the updated one's for this year. Finally, here you'll get to the trailer for this year's Battle.

I know that the idea of battleing is a bit too ...ehm... shitty. But, hey, last year it was fun and it produced some of the more reading worthy posts of my blog.

If you want to, you could rate every post from june 1st to june 14th at my blog and any other blog taking part in the BotB.

Samstag, 12. Mai 2007 um 18:30 Uhr, Apollo Kino Aachen

Vortrag von Oliver Schwabe, Regisseur (Köln)
">>Spass am Widerstand<< - Jugendkultur zwischen Pop, Politik und Protest"

Anschließend Filmvorführung:
"My Generation. Der Sound der Revolte"
(BRD 2006, 177 Minuten)

MY GENERATION
Der Sound der Revolte erzählt in 15 Songs
Eine Collage von Oliver Schwabe

Schnitt: Yvonne Hilke

Bill Haley, The Meteors, Atari Teenage Riot, Rod Stewart, Public Image Limited, Nick Cave, Stiff Little Fingers, Von Spar, The Specials, Kurtis Blow, Alien Sex Fiend, Black Sabbath, Hans-A-Plast, Champion Jack Dupree, The Who, Peter Hein, Kyuss, The Jam, Family 5, Dead Kennedys, The Rolling Stones, Gang of Four, Jimi Hendrix, Einstürzende Neubauten, Iggy Pop, Ted Herold, Kolossale Jugend, Stray Cats, Public Enemy, u.v.a.

Kistof Schreuf (früher Brüllen!/Kolosalle Jugend) - live!
Punk, Pop & Protest-Songs

Rastätte, Lothringerstraße 23 in Aachen, ca. 22:30 Uhr

Der Eintritt beträgt JEWEILS drei Euro!
