(SS-0117) SARA SCARE - THE WIRES ARE SHOWING CD $10.00
Sara Scare is Levi Jacob Bailey (Clear Days Always, Spit For Athena) and Steven Thomas, who first met during their time together in the short-lived band CCCCCCC.
Steven writes and programs all the music and Levi writes and performs
all the lyrics/vocals. It's all very glossy, pop-ish stuff, but with a
layer of distortion that makes everything too noisy for most people,
and with lyrics that no one will want to hear (topics include a failing
marriage, murder, the end of the music industry and the end of the
world). In other words, it's sure to please very few people. One might
enjoy one aspect of Sara Scare while being completely disgusted with
another. Good times. With your purchase of this CD, you will receive a
small, handmade lyric booklet, so you'll be sure to understand every
awful word. These booklets are limited (as in, we'll make them until we
don't feel like dealing with it anymore, and making the first twenty
was a pain in the ass), so hurry up and send us your fucking cash.
You might notice that we have a new home. Self-Satisfied can now be
found by typing at selfsatisfied.net. We're working on making a new
site, and this existing site has been transplanted from another
location, so please let us know if you notice any broken links or any
other problems.

Hey Y'all:
(SS-0116) THE CHANTEYMEN - DOWN CD $8.00
This
is the debut full-length from The Chanteymen. This has been out since
May, he's done the CD release party thing and all that...We're getting
it late because he had trouble getting us the artwork. It GLITTERS, you
see. That alone should move you to want this CD in your collection, but
let's keep the juice flowing: This album follows through on promises
made with the No Straight Lines EP (SS-0111). Upon listening to the album, one might be reminded of recent Hayden, Sap-era
Alice In Chains, or Brian Van Der Ark singing honest songs instead of
polished turds. Chris has an amazing voice, and has a black belt in
mood. It's solid-ass music. You should buy this. Visit his MySpace, listen to the music, tell him he's wonderful, send him money.
In other Self-Satisfied news: Marc Palm is still cranking out amazing comics on his blog, and now he's also busy making t-shirts just for you. If you're not paying attention to Marc, you're only hurting yourself. He's one of the good ones, damn you. Support him.

(SS-0115) STEVEN THOMAS - THE FLOYD JONES EP CD $8.00 OR FREE DOWNLOAD
Steven Thomas is an artist and musician living in Grand Rapids,
Michigan. The Floyd Jones EP is his first album as a solo artist,
having previously recorded as guitarist for CCCCCCC (see SS-0107).
These seven short compositions combine elements of classical and
electronic music, and are inspired and dedicated to Steven's close
friend, who lends his name for the title, with the song titles serving
as references to various themes and experiences in his life. If you don't feel you need something you can hold in your hand (you cheap bastard), Steven is offering this album as a free download from his website, where you should also take a moment to enjoy some of his excellent art. Steven is currently working with Levi Bailey (Clear Days Always, Spit For Athena) on their Sara Scare project, which will also see a 2009 release on Self-Satisfied.

(SS-0114) CLEAR DAYS ALWAYS - SAVAGES CD $8.00
Clear Days Always has many faces (folk, noise, electronica), so it can be a bit confusing to figure out what you're getting from release to release. Let us help you: This is rock band Clear Days Always. Nasty guitars, yelled/screamed vocals, lyrics that could have been written by Tom Araya or Steve Albini. Swans? Old Helmet? Anyways, it's not acoustic. Don't expect it to be acoustic stuff. As always, if you don't have the $8.00 to spend on the real thing, you can listen to/download it HERE from archive.org. You lucky dogs.

(SS-0113) MY DOPPELGANGER - 2009 CD-R $5.00
Hello. My name is Michael Keaton, and I'm here to announce the fabulous new release from My Doppelganger, titled 2008. Don't let the simple title fool you: there's a shitload of complexity on this album that you probably won't be able to swallow after just one listen. Samples surgically combined in such a flavorful way that you might forget your name. Well, you can't have mine! There's only one Michael Keaton, right? Anyways, you should buy this CD-R if you're into MF Doom minus the rapping, or maybe you like flipping through the channels on your TV really fast and making up your own shows? It's $5.00, my friend. You need this music in your life.
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow: Clear Days Always Savages is coming soon.
As always, check out our list of streamable/downloadable music, courtesy of archive.org. New stuff added all the time, people. You can't beat free.

(SS-0112) TERRIBLE TERRIBLE CD $5.00 OR FREE DOWNLOAD More metal than Self-Satisfied is used to, but it feels kinda nice shoved up there, you know? Levi Bailey and Matt Budd, who have previously worked together in Dropsy, Noma, Spit For Athena, and Clear Days Always, e-mailed tracks back and forth over the course of a few months, and this is the EP they managed to come up with. Not quite up to par with their heroes in Daughters, The Locust, and Today Is The Day, but a decent effort. Available on CD or as a free download from archive.org. Speaking of free downloads, I should take a minute to mention our updated mp3/download area. After discovering the wonderful archive.org, we've decided to slowly upload all of our releases to the website. We upload pure .wav files, and they automatically process them into other formats alongside the .wav files, giving you lots of choices. There's a neat little flash player so you can preview what you're downloading...It's all fantastic. If you download something, please leave a comment. It's nice to hear what people think about all of this music. Check out the list HERE, and check back often for updates. Upcoming Self-Satisfied shows: THE CHANTEYMEN 01/22/09...Marquette, MI @ Devos Art Museum CLEAR DAYS ALWAYS 01/17/09...Grand Rapids , MI @ Teasers
SAH 03/15/09...Detroit, MI @ Trumbullplex

Tuesday, November 25, 2008, 3:05am If any of you happened to try to visit this website over the last few weeks, you might have noticed that your computer was infected with a virus. Someone injected some nasty bugs into our host's lovehole, and all associated websites felt the burn. I'm really sorry if any of you had any major trouble. If you're really, really pissed, feel free to e-mail us (selfsatisfied[at]gmail.com) and we'll try to win you over with a free gift or something. The website is fine now, we've totally re-uploaded every little thing, we're clean as a whistle. We were on Google's "malicious site warning" shitlist, but after submitting the site for consideration, they took us out of the red. If Google can forgive us, why can't you? Marc Palm's excellent blog comic marches on. The inspiration for this one gave me the fucking willies. Enjoy. He's also started a blog called Masters In My Mind that spotlights his various sources of inspiration. You might find it...inspiring. Some new releases hopefully coming soon this year, if not early 2009, from Lap Dancer, Clear Days Always, Swellzombie, Pangaea, and Sara Scare (a new project featuring members of Clear Days Always and CCCCCCC). Fuck Michigan winters.

Our apologies to anyone who happened to visit the Self-Satisfied website (or any extension of spitforathena.net or the Friction Records website) and get infected by malware. Our host was attacked, and it really messed things up for a bit. Google even flagged us as a malicious website. Anyways, it's fixed now, and we got Google to take down the nasty stuff about us, and things seem cool. I just surfed the Self-Satisfied a bit, I promise you, everything is fine. Direct any obscene language to this blog...we can take it. Thanks for coming back.

(SS-0111) THE CHANTEYMEN - NO STRAIGHT LINES EP CD-R $5.00 This week we have an EP from The Chanteymen, who you might remember from our 100th release celebration compilation thingy (HERE). This release is meant as kind of an appetizer to hold you over while the full-length is finished, but it's a pretty hefty fucking appetizer. Track 3, "(false starts)", isn't really a song as much as a charming comedy skit for those of us familiar with how ridiculous recording an album can be, but the other four songs carry enough weight and meaning to leave you wondering if your heart could even take a full-length from this U.P. project. Powerful stuff, for fans of maybe Neutral Milk Hotel, Sebadoh, and that dark shit that sailors and pirates sing to keep from fucking killing themselves in the middle of the ocean. More information HERE.

(SS-0110) KNOX MITCHELL - GIRLS' NIGHT OUT CD $8.00 Noisy, but not laptop noise. Very organic, very "live", but not without interesting production tricks and surprises. A cluttered, tiny apartment that you'll never be able to clean. Disgusted, but not without a sense of humor, a wink. Internal feedback, shouting, screaming, samples, beeps and boops, things being destroyed, things coming to life. To hear the track "Don't Rain On The Gay Parade", go HERE. Coming Soon(ish): Lap Dancer's "Ice Field", and the next Clear Days Always HOMES release.
