I edit the freelance writing pages for Garden and Hearth. My latest article is all about web content writing - how to build the skills you need to become a good web content writer.

If the seeming demise of WritingUp has left you down, then weep no more! From out of the ashes has arisen a site that will be better, stronger and much more reliable. It's called Communati and its mission is to take the best from WritingUp and leave the worst.
Here's what founder Mark Whitbeck has to say:
The philosophy about Communati.com, the way it looks, feels, and works, is to introduce something that is familiar while morphing into something completely new.
The best includes recreating that community aspect; leaving the worst means eliminating those darned trackbacks once and for all. I signed up for Communati and so far, so good. I have already met a couple of old WU friends there and hope to meet more. So far, I am welcoming Communati with cautious optimism. Check out my posts there. I'm wahmwriter (couldn't stay away from writing completely, but wanted more freedom to broaden my horizons). PS. Did I mention that you get 70 per cent of Adsense revenue? This is cross posted from Sharon's Writing Lab

Current mood: okay
I blog in a lot of places and while I've been sharing linky love on other blogs, I thought I would give myself the warm fuzzies as well. Here's Don't Get Paid To Write from my Writing Lab blog, as well as my first attempt at a podcast (I cheated, but I still don't know if it works) (Well, you probably guessed that I got interrupted while I was writing this.) Anyway, here are two of my favourite posts from the last few days. The first is about what to do when writing clients leave; the second is about the power of positive thinking in a writing career.

OK, here I go again. I've talked before about the value of Squidoo and I'm not the only one. I read somewhere recently about using Squidoo to post a sort of extended online resume and that motivated me to do something I've been putting off for a while. Today I've created the Sharon Hurley Hall lens. This is shameless self promotion to reach a different audience and lead them to look at some of the stuff I've done. I have to say I have already had two long term and well paying clients through Squidoo, even before doing this, so it will be interesting to see what happens now. In the meantime, I'm looking for feedback about what I should add to or remove from the lens. So drop me a note here or there and let me know what you think, please.

A few months ago, I became a contributing editor for Garden and Hearth, thanks to a recommendation from one of my writing buddies. Now, today, my freelance writing site is live. I am happy. I've written some new articles about ghostwriting, markets and other topics of interest, and I will be adding at least one article a month. There's also a forum where you can chat about the articles Stop by and have a look.

Current mood: busy
I always seem to be busy, don't I? But yet I've found a minute to write this post. Maybe it's because I need to refresh my brain every so often. I have been writing about web hosting all morning and I've still got a bit to do. Blogging is a bit of fun so that my brain gets a partial recharge. How do you integrate blogging into your work day?

How do you find balance in the writing life? That's what one of my blogging friends asked me. I began to think about how I manage writing time, family time and me time and came up with a response. Here's an extract: I even have a written plan for the amount of time I will spend writing, with family and on myself. The trouble is that it all goes out the window when I have a deadline. Instead of finding balance, I end up sitting in my chair, typing my fingers off and watching my butt grow larger by the second.

I have more work than I know what to do with and I'd really like to take some time off. After 18 months of solid promotion I am starting to see some return in freelance writing jobs, approaches from writers and my position on Google. It's great to see it all happening, but now I'm ready for a holiday. Time to kick back, relax and go to the beach or something. It's a beautiful day - far too beautiful to be indoors.

Category: Friends
It's amazing that people that you have never met can become friends. Take today, for example. Someone let me down, leaving me in a bind when it came to meeting my deadlines. Two friends have helped me out. Ok, they are getting paid, but they didn't have to do it. I have never met these women face to face. I met them on a blogging site and we've chatted online a couple of times. That's it. So taking time out to help me is very friendly - and I feel blessed.
