July 15, 2009 - Wednesday
I have only a minute.  All is good.  I'm trying to learn Facebook and Twitter.  You can find me on FB http://www.facebook.com/michele.driscoll2?v=feed&story_fbid=103229564890 and Mrs. Driscoll on Twitter.

I don't have the patience for Myspace anymore.  It slows my computer down and takes forever to do anything.  I think I mistakenly deleted everyone of my comments and mail without even gettting a chance to read one.

Our movie theater is having free kids movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this summer and we've been enjoying those although we don't stay for the entire movie, it's good practice for the Boy Child.  Check your local movie theater to see if they are offering this.

I have to get off here now but I will try to hop back on here when/if the Boy Child takes a nap today.

Church Members Paying Big to Get Married at Their Church

by Brant Hansen of Letters From Kamp Krusty

(NOTE: Brant is the morning show host for the WAY-FM radio network.)

I was on the air, talking about how hard it is for people, it seems, to find places to get married.  It's expensive to use church buildings these days -- even for people who've been "members" for years.

------------

Caller:  Well, I'm on staff at our church, and there's a good reason we charge $500 for people to use the building for a wedding.

Me:  That's what the church charges members who've actually paid for the building over the years?

Caller:  Yes.  It's really expensive to run the power and clean up and everything.

Me:  Of course it is.  So if the pastor wants to have a "Let's Celebrate Our Grads!" night in the sanctuary, do you have to pay $500?

Caller:  Well, no, because that would be an official church function.

Me:  Okay, I'm just curious:  Joining members of your church in holy matrimony in front of witnesses and God isn't an official thing?

Caller:  No, that's an extra thing.

-----------------

Next caller:  I draw up the wedding policy at our church.  I thought I'd call.  I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Me:  Okay...I was just wondering -- I mean, it came up:  Do you charge your own people to use the building for a wedding?

Caller:  Yes.  You need to understand, it costs a LOT to run the power, the lights, the maintenance of a building.  It's very expensive.

Me:   Yeah, I'm sure that's true.  So, like, if your youth pastor schedules an event in there, like a lock-in or something, does he pay for it...?

Caller:  No.  (laughing)

Me:  Okay...help me understand...

Caller:  Youth ministry is part of the church.

Me:  Okay.  That's cool.  But a wedding ceremony isn't?  Even if the people are members for years, and helped pay for the building, and the pastor's been there two months...?

Caller:  It's because it's youth ministry.

Me:   You know, that's cool, but I'm not even sure that youth ministry is mentioned in the Bible.  And weddings have a --

Caller:  Yeah, but it's an extra thing.  People have to pay for that.

----------------

Next caller:  I can speak for our church.  If we DIDN'T charge, we'd have people lined up, wanting to use the place every Saturday for years.

Me:  But if they're people who are members, and paid for the building, and it's theirs, too, shouldn't it be free and celebrated and --

Caller:  It would be too crazy if you just let people do that.

Me:  But if they paid for it to start with --

Caller:  You have to charge a fee to discourage people from using it.

----------------

Next caller:  I'm in charge of our sound and lights ministry, and it's a big church, and it's a big hassle to have to go in there and do a wedding.

Me:  Sure, I understand.  If they don't want sound, though, could they just schedule --

Caller:  I don't think so.  It wouldn't be an official church event.

Me:  I don't entirely get that.

Caller:  It's for official church stuff.

Me:  But they're part of the official church...?

Caller:  Yes.

Me:  But their stuff isn't official church stuff.

Caller:  Yes, that's correct.

Me:  Okay!  Thanks.

Caller:  No problem.

Me:  Okee-doke.  Here's a song from Jeremy Camp...

.." target="_self">Steve Anderson

This is the dude advertising himself as the Baptist Pastor that was beaten by boarder agents. In this video he is purposely goading the police into making a scene over and over and over again.  He often approaches them first in order to set them up and game them.  You can go to the YouTube site and see his current videos on the beating.  I won't be posting it here.

Dude obviously knew how the patrol were, and I believe he continues to make that trip to California weekly not to preach God's word but in order to up his chances for an incident to occur.  He's egged them on before as the video shows.  At 7.08 the Officer tells him he thinks Anderson is using the law to get across contraband. We'd be singing a very different tune had the agents allowed a trunkful of bodies across because they didn't want to invade anyone's rights.  Can you imagine!  At 9.11 he won't even tell them he is a Pastor. Hmm, why is that? Maybe because his MAIN purpose is NOT to spread God's Word.  At 10.48 he deliberately goes looking for trouble. In an AIRPORT, a freaking airport. Talking about harassing people when HE IS THE ONE DOING THE HARRASSING!!!!

You know, I watched as his wife posted on her blog and the donate button went up right away.  It is obvious that this whole incident has been premeditated for quite some time and as we all know crime pays.  This has been in the works for a long time, no doubt.  It's a crime, a moral crime as far as I'm concerned and I'm not going to sit idolly by and watch people get behind him.  Don't be taken in by this lunatic.  He hurts the cause big time.  It's people like this that are a big reason our rights are being taken away and a very large part the reason protesters are being labeled terrorist by Homeland Security and looked at as goofs by the majority of the media.

Anyway, it is with a heavy heart I ask you to watch this video and the other one (check your bulletins, I'm sure you got one) and if you still feel strongly that this guy is in the right I want you to delete me.  This is not what I'm about and I don't want to be associated with this group at all. I want to make a difference and I want this country back on track. I am a Christian-American, in that order.  I'm not sure where I fit in anymore but I do know it's not with this guy.  This IS NOT A GODLY man.

(1 Corinthians 5:9-) 9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13 But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES."

Known By Our Fruit
By Pastor Greg Laurie

A little boy went over to a pastor's house, where the pastor was doing some carpentry in his garage. The boy simply stood there and watched him for quite a long time.

After a while, the preacher wondered why this boy was watching him and was finally so curious that he stopped and said, "Son, are you trying to pick up some pointers on how to build something?"

The little boy replied, "No. I am just waiting to hear what a preacher says when he hits his thumb with a hammer."

Often, we will find out what we are made of by what comes out of our mouths in both good and bad circumstances. When we have a change in conduct and character in our lives, it is a type of spiritual fruit.

Galatians 5:22 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control . . . " (NKJV). A Christian's life should be characterized by these things.

Are you producing fruit? Or is the opposite true?

Instead of love, is there hatred, bitterness, or even prejudice in your life? Instead of joy, is there constant gloom? Instead of peace, is there turmoil? Instead of gentleness, is there a short temper? Instead of faith, is there endless worry? Instead of meekness, is there pride and arrogance? Instead of self-control, are you a victim of your own passions?

If so, then either you don't know God at all or a recommitment to Christ would be in order.

If you are a Christian, then people should be able to look for—and find—fruit in your life. Why? Because a disciple of Jesus Christ will produce spiritual fruit.

Jesus said, " 'My true disciples produce much fruit. This brings great glory to my Father' " (John 15:8 NLT). Jesus also said, " 'By their fruits you will know them' " (Matthew 7:20 NKJV).

The metaphor of bearing fruit is used quite often in the Bible. In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus spoke of seed that falls on different types of ground, representing different reactions to the truth of the gospel message. The final category He mentioned in Mark 4:20 was good ground: "But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred" (NKJV).

In other words, those who have spiritual longevity are those who embrace this truth and produce fruit. The Bible tells us that we should bear fruit worthy of repentance (see Matthew 3:8).

The Bible gives us different pictures as to what "bearing fruit" means. For example, praising and thanking God is a way of bearing fruit in our lives. Hebrews 13:15 says, "Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name" (NKJV). When you praise God, that is bearing fruit.

At one of our church services, I noticed a young woman in the front row who was in a wheelchair. Her legs were gone, and she had only one arm, which was a partial one.

As we were worshipping, this young woman lifted what she had of her arm to the Lord. I thought about how this must have pleased God. She didn't have hands to lift, but what she had, she lifted to the Lord.

Did she have troubles in her life? Did she have difficulty? Of course she did. But she offered a sacrifice of praise to God.

We don't praise God only when we are in the mood. Rather, we praise God because He is worthy of our praise. Our word, "worship," comes from the old English form, worth ship. We praise that which is worthy.

Therefore, we don't praise God because we feel like it. We praise God because He deserves our praise. When we do this, we are bearing fruit.

What we say is also a type of fruit in our lives. Jesus said, " 'A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say' " (Luke 6:45 NLT).

When you are a true Christian, it will be reflected by what you say. This is bearing fruit as well.

Can others identify spiritual fruit in your life? Remember, people are watching you. They are listening to you.  I hope that you are pointing them to Jesus

Updated to add link to Uses for Coffee & Coffee Filters

Retouch furniture scuffs

Coffee’s dark hues match perfectly to brown or black furniture that’s been nicked or scuffed. Simply let used coffee grounds re-brew and then steep for a few hours or overnight. Strain it and you’ll be left with a chemical-free stain that you can apply with a cotton swab.

Deodorize your closet or refrigerator

Pack a small amount of dry coffee grounds into a sock and hang it from your curtain rod or leave wet grounds to dry in the refrigerator in a small dish. It will naturally deodorize either space and save money on air fresheners. Add a small dab of vanilla to give it a sweet scent.

Scour pots and pans

Use the grounds to scrub out greasy pans or stuck-on food. The grounds rinse away and you’re left with sparkling dishware.

Kick start a compost pile

Coffee grounds are the bread and butter of composting. With nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, they’ll add a boost to any compost pile.

Scrub away the stink

Keep a small amount of used grounds near your sink and use them to scrub away food smells like onion or garlic that stay on hands after cooking. The coffee will neutralize the odors on your skin much like perfume stores offer fresh coffee beans to help recharge your sense of smell.

Keep Spot from scratching

Create an organic flea dip for your pet by rubbing the grounds into his or her coat during their next bath. Rinse them away once you’re finished and you’ll have a happy, itch-free friend.

Keep your skin soft

Allow coffee grounds to cool after they’ve brewed, then mix with an egg white and use it as an exfoliating mud mask. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and it’s been shown to tighten and firm skin’s appearance. Skin care companies even use it in pricey creams to help fight cellulite. You can do it at home for free!

Make ants beat a retreat

Sprinkle a ring of coffee grounds around the base of your favorite plants to help fight off ants and other pests like plant-munching worms.

Keep your fireplace sparkling

Sprinkle wet grounds onto your fireplace’s ashes next time you clean. They’ll keep you from being overtaken by a plume of dusty ash as your scoop them up.

Pep up your plants

The nutrients in coffee grounds will act as a natural fertilizer. Just apply cold brewed coffee or used grounds to acid-loving plants like azaleas and watch them bloom.

The Stranger on the Road
( Luke 24:13-35;
)
By Joel Mitchell

Our hearts o'erflowed with sorrow
As we walked upon the way
Minds spinning in confusion
We discussed that tragic day

A stranger came and walked with us
Along the dusty road
He asked why we were downcast
We explained as on we strode

"We watched in utter horror
As our guiltless master died
We hoped he was Messiah
But he was crucified

We hoped he'd come to save us
Israel to redeem.
The death of that great prophet
Was the death of our great dream

And now his tomb is empty
Some women told strange tales
But none have seen the Master
Our hope within us fails"

"Foolish men and slow of heart,"
The stranger gave reply.
"The Torah and the prophets say
Messiah first must die"

He spoke to us the Words of God
Our hearts within us burned
We asked him to come sup with us
Aside with us he turned

And then our eyes were opened
Just as he broke the bread
We recognized our Savior
Jesus risen from the dead!
