Shawn Drover of Megadeth Tour Blog - Week One E-mail
Monday, 23 November 2009 14:53

Starting a North American tour is always an exciting thing for me. I have toured around the globe many times now with Megadeth, and while it's all great for different reasons (and I do love all of it), touring in North America makes me feel a bit more comfortable in certain ways. I enjoy being on a tour bus quite a bit, as really it is our "home away from home" and with the fall season here, that means I can watch NFL football - Always an important thing for me :) Anyways, enough of that. Here is a small glimpse at my life on the road.

The third and final Halloween Treat from Sick Drummer Magazine and John Longstreth!  Skinless Drum Tracks:

People usually say two things to me about "From Sacrifice to Survival". The first is "why is there singing on a Skinless record?", and the second is "great album, but I can't hear the drums". So, here are 5 "drums only" versions of the Sacrifice songs. One of them is a George Torres era song, so you can hear how things developed from ep to lp.

Enjoy ~ John Longstreth

Read The Whole Interview!

Soulfly was scheduled to enter a studio in Los Angeles, California on 11/6/09 to begin recording their new album for an early 2010 release. The group's bassist, Bobby Burns, writes on Soulfly's official forum, "We've been playing together better than ever in recent times and we're all really excited to get to work on the new shit!"

Craig Sternberg had the chance to interview Joe Nunez recently... Enjoy!

SDM: What's the latest with the new Soulfly record?  How far along are you guys?

Joe: Max has put together the songs and picked out what he wanted to do.  Now we're basically just listening to what ideas he has and we're going to work from there.  We're in the beginning phases of it, although Max is probably in the advanced stages.  We'll put it together real soon.

SDM: Do you have an idea of when the album will come out?

Joe: No, I have no idea.

SDM: Is there any specific goal you have in mind for this record that you are setting out to accomplish?

Joe: Well, until I hear what he has in mind, I do want to venture out a little bit more.  Not do the same thing we did on Dark Ages and Conquer, they are really heavy metal albums, but for me I like to bust out of the plateaus you get into when you put out a good record.  Like Reign in Blood, they did that record and when they came out with the new record, it's like, are they supposed to repeat and do Reign in Blood part two?  So, same thing with me, in the sense that I want to be able to do something creative and fresh, a new sound for this new record.

The Second of three Halloween Treats from Sick Drummer Magazine and John Longstreth! There will be one other posted later today or tomorrow...

Malicious Intent. Demo 1995: This is the first recording I was ever a part of and my starting point, or ground zero. Believe it or not, that snare drum you hear is a 14"x 8" Premier brass and I wish I never gave it away. I am still in contact with the rhythm guitarist/vocalist Chad Bryan. He is currently playing guitar in L.A's up and coming metal band White Wizzard. Enjoy ~ John Longstreth

John Longstreth Live w/ The Red Chord, in Tallahassee, FL 2004: Probably one of the only times my drumming and the rest of the band lined up and sounded right.  People ask about this and wonder why it didn't work out. My general response is, "we just had vastly different mentalities on music and I didn't feel right in a hardcore band". You can be the judge here.
