Current mood:  angry
Firstly, jesus, park lane on a friday night really does show up the detritus of society, poynton's a fucking hole and the sooner I can move out of it the better.

Anyway, the legion has a beer fest on, they've got 26 beers on over the space of this evening, saturday and sunday afternoon. FUCK THE INDIANS HAVE SCORED. Grabbed a few this evening, some ratings:

Thornbridge - Jaipur - 8, standard, known to us in Sheffield, usual excellent standard
Riverhead - Sparth Mild - 7, decent mild, solid but not spectacular
Hampshire - King Alfred - 7, popular bitter, nothing wrong with it
Howard Town - Snake Ale - 6, a bit bland
Riverhead - Marsden Best - 7, good
Wye Valley - Dorothy Goodbodies - 8, good taste
Strathaven - Trumpeter - 9, fantastic dark ale

Was repeatedly getting owned at the 24s, so pulled off $250 (which went through neteller at a really crap exchange rate) to stop me playing them. Needless to say that I pwned the 12s this morning for about 13 buyins, which is nice. My october graph has huge swongs, because of a 55% ROI difference between the 12's and 24's. That's exaggerated because of a 18/80 winrate at the 12's. Obviously sustainable.

Have got back to parity on Everest before the bonus, so it should be quite nice when I clear the whole thing (about 75 of 200 done) especially if I can keep beating limit. I may be tempted to start playing 1/2 or 2/4 on FTP if I can work out how much time it'd take to get fpp's.

Current mood:  bored
September was distinctly meh. Firstly, didn't get the job I interviewed for, which is obviously a pain in the arse but what can you do, didn't really interview well imo. Up around $250 but that includes rakeback of around $110, pretty sucky 3% month. Could be worse, could have had a losing month obviously. I'm starting to take shots at the 24's, there's a noticable difference in the number of people making correct aggressive moves, which in turn means I don't have as many spots to shove as at the 12's. Will hopefully be able to adjust though.

Got Greenstein's book and Moshman's new stt book. The latter wasn't that great, it needed a proof reader badly and didn't really tell me much new, was more a case of nodding in agreement for the most part (pretty much exactly what andy said in his blog really). Barry's book is great, it's not really a strategy book but talks about a lot of stuff that is important to becoming a winning player and reads well.

Have been bonus whoring on Everest through the 2+2 book program, they offered me the selection of five books today (obviously did enough volume to get them, although I've still got like $150 of the $200 to whore), am awaiting Harrington 3, Chen's mathematics of poker book, Flynn and Mehta's NLHE book, Miller's basic hold'em book and sklansky's gambling for a living book. Not overly interested in the last two but it makes up five and they're free so it's all gravy.

Was at sheffield beer fest last week, but didn't have too many for various reasons, so I'll leave a writeup as nothing was terrible but nothing was special.

Current mood:  cheerful
Have come up with some plans for September, in rough order of priority:

- get this job that I'm interviewing for on Friday. This is clearly the important one and it's not close, I don't care if I run like crap in poker for the rest of the month/year/whatever if I get this as it's actually a job that I want

- frantically relocate if 1 comes in

- find out when Sheffield beer fest is, arrange sortie to coincide with donkaments

- 4 sets of $12's a day, hold top 100 leaderboard spot. Was 49 last month, but the difference in trying to grind out a top 50 spot for a pay jump isn't worth it. This will obviously all be much nicer when my new 22" widescreen LCD monitor arrives, thank you fish

- try and get my snooker game back in touch in the event that I don't move and hence end up playing league games this year, I'm playing the odd nice frame but it's all still a bit isolated

- work through enough of Zelda so that I can realistically finish it before Corruption comes out here

- try not to spend quite so much time on the internet

Current mood:  contemplative
I'm posting more on my Newgrounds blog nowadays, as I use that site a lot more really.

Haven't found any work yet, which is a pain in the arse, but hopefully something will show up soon. I'm looking in and around Coventry a lot, at my old uni, mainly because I like the area and there's a lot to offer that south Manchester doesn't. Also periodically looking at Sheffield but I'd rather get away from there than stay there for a longer period.

Poker has been good to me of recent. Highlight was clearly taking 2nd/490ish in an FTP $26 $9k guarantee for $1800 and change. Have moved up from the $6.50's to the $12's (independent of the donkament cash), up around $550 so far in the month independent of rakeback which is good for another $120 or so. Also secured gold ironman status but can't get iron, so I really don't have too much incentive to play more, except to secure top 50 on the low limit sng leaderboard, I'm like 48th at the moment. May just try and 8-table $6.50's for a couple of hours a day, I normally 4-table so wouldn't want to play more at my normal level without first knowing that I can play that many effectively (I'd have to cascade as opposed to tile as well, which is another thing to adapt to).

Have pulled $2k off FTP after that donkament cash, from which I'm going to:

- stick £400 into a separate account for purposes of mod meat 08
- buy Wii (done)
- buy 19"-20" flatscreen
- general beer expenses

Next month I'll probably just play four sets of $12's each day to sustain the gold status. I'll also be having a think about some proper goal setting for the next twelve months.

Yeah, that's about the most of it. So I'm back from America, had a blast, ended up spending surprisingly little throughout the two weeks. Since then I've been back in the UK not doing very much, went to Sheffield for a couple of days last week to see some people during graduation (I now have my second degree, lol), have played a ton of poker, getting out of the downswing I was in and pushing my FTP roll to a new high. I strangely play better when I'm hunting bonii, and they gave me a small one to clear which got done in like a week. I think I may hunt for a new site once I get paid some rakeback, if I can find a decent bonus to shove around $500 into (want to keep some on FTP for when they obviously offer a "please come back" bonus).

Bought some books, got Mr Biffo's book which is funny in places but I can't read it for more than about ten minutes at a time because of it's format, also picked up Mark Thomas' recent book which is pretty good, also a football book by some Mail investigative hack (endorsed with a review quote on the front cover by, er, the Daily Mail) which is OK but I doubt that 400 pages to tell us that FIFA are bent are really necessary. More on those when I'm actually done with them.

Employment went fine. No real curveballs thrown, only small problem is that the third problem question required so much more writing than the first two that I was a bit stuck for time, but should have done OK.

Two weeks until I leave for the States, in between then I need to:

- move all my stuff back home
- sort out some small loose ends for the holiday
- play lots of poker

Poker's going great, I'm playing more $12 STT's now and if anything the standard is worse than the $6.50's. Very small sample size so far but what I've played has been very solid, I see no reason why I can't beat the level at the same rate I'm beating the $6.50's at now. If I can play a couple of sets per day at 10%, that's good for around $350/month, including rakeback. The next level after that are the $24's, and I'd need at least $1200 to start taking shots at that.

Hopefully it won't take too long to get to that level, although I could simply keep milking the $12's if I wanted to. I don't see any real reason to move to Stars, the benefits of SilverStar aren't really as good as rakeback. I might take some off to buy some things I've been wanting (a Wii would be nice) instead. Assuming I find some work quickly, it'd do fine as a nice little earner on the side.

Won't say much about the SUPS donkament of champions, blew off much of stack FPSing against Laurence, then stacked off to Roman, A4 loses to A3 obv

One exam down. Commercial went OK, the essay question came up as I wanted it to, and the added sections of the problem question weren't too bad either. Should be solid, albeit not spectacular.

Been playing a fair number of donk and goes of recent. Running OK, bankroll had been fluctuating but it's stable now, although it's not pushing up to where I can take shots at the $12's without unacceptable risk of busto. Impending rakeback might help. Went deepish in a turbo donkament, getting down to three tables out (of 250 or so runners), before some genius thought calling off his stack to my shove with QJo was a good idea (I had A3s, he obv hit), and then next hand I jam J9o UTG with about 3BB's, he calls with KTo (obv), I hit, but guy with JJ also called and stacked both of us.

Employment is on Saturday, then I plan to:

a) drink
b) play a fuckload of dng's
c) sort out the few loose ends for america

before going home to our busto house. Hopefully I can find a job real quickly somewhere else that pays lots or something and get irl robusto again.

Addendum: AWOP looks like a bit of a joke right now. Most forums are full of about ten different threads from people with less than three posts asking for a password to a $250 freeroll. lol. I'd play it, except it's on VC and it's not showing up on my VCSP lobby. With nearly 200 runners already, even taking into account my obv huge edge over random freeloaders in donkaments, the rate in this would be $dick/hour. So I'll pass.
