FAQ
Q. Is there an age limit for tandem jumps? A. 18 years of age minimum, no maximum.
Q. Is there a height/weight limit for tandem jumps? A. 200 pounds is our general weight limit but weather conditions sometimes allow for exceptions. Height is usually not an issue. There are two reasons for the weight restriction. First, the parachute has a weight limit so we must consider the combined weight of the instructor, passenger, and gear. Second, we want to provide our passengers with the softest of landings. The more weight we have under a parachute the faster the landing. On a very hot day with little to no wind we must be more cautious. Wind and cooler air help tremendously. Our goal is to offer fun and excitement but above all, see that nobody gets hurt.
Q. How long is the freefall? A. On a tandem jump we open the parachute at 5k feet (almost 1 mile above ground). From an exit altitude of 10k feet above ground, this gives us approximately 35 seconds of freefall; the actual time varies slightly (just a few seconds) depending on exit weight, gear, and air temperature. When the big plane is in town freefall is around 60 seconds!
Q. Do you offer any discounts? A. Yes. Check our prices for current specials. We offer group discounts. The larger the group, the more efficiently and smoothly we can crank out the jumps for you. We pass these savings on to you. Bring it on -- we love barbeques!
Q. Will my friends and family be able to watch? A. Absolutely! Bring an army, some blankets, and chairs. Tailgates make great seating as well! With average eyesight a tandem jump can be viewed with the naked eye from exit to landing. While binoculars and strong telephoto lenses can bring the action closer, it is difficult to find the jumpers in the frame. We do offer professional freefall video for an additional price.
Q. How long will it take? A. Watching the video and signing the waiver usually takes around 20 minutes. Suiting up and getting our parachutes ready can also take around 20 minutes. However, the instructors are busy packing parachutes while the video and waivers are under way, so that often we are ready as soon as our passengers. The plane ride takes another 30 minutes. Once at altitude you will be safely back on the ground within 5 minutes.
Q. What should I wear? A. Dress comfortably. Jeans, t-shirt, and comfortable shoes -- preferably lace-up tennis shoes. Let us know if you wear contacts, and we can accomodate you. In the summer it gets very warm on the ground and in the plane. You may simply jump in jeans but we recommend an old pair so as not to put grass stains on a perfectly good pair of Lucky's. In the cooler seasons -- between October and April, it is a good idea to bring a sweatshirt. We do in fact jump during the months of Nov, Dec, and Jan, but it is very cold. During these months we suggest thermals, gloves, and something for the ears.
Q. Why jump with Skydive Idaho? A. We prioritize on safe, professional skydiving. Each of our instructors is certified under the United States Parachute Association. Our dropzone harbors incredible talent and experience, with a fun and friendly atmosphere. We keep our aircraft and parachute gear well maintained. Your safety is always our number one concern. Call or visit anytime and we would be happy to provide resources for more information.
Q. When can I jump by myself? A. We recommend a tandem skydive for your first jump. However, a solo jump can be a gratifying achievement for those who wish to complete the required training. If you are interested in making your first jump solo our instructors will still be at your side throughout the dive and on radio to help with your parachute decent and landing. See our training page for more details.
Q. Who can I talk to about other questions? A. Call or email us, we'd be happy to answer all of your questions. You are always welcome to stop by as well. Just walk in and let one of our staff members know you are here. We will show you around and take you to the landing area when the next load is jumping. You can even watch the instructors pack parachutes upstairs. We usually have videos and music running.

There are probably as many reasons for skydiving as there are skydivers. For some people, its to conquer their fears and push themselves to new limits. Others find a sense of boundless freedom, self expression, and perspective. As a sport, there are many disciplines, including relative work (formations), crw (parachute formations), skysurfing, accuracy, freeflying (like snowboarding was to skiing), and others. Skydiving is a wonderfully sociable sport. So whether for thrill or aesthetics, first time jump or weekend hobby, we welcome you to the skies with us. Complete training from first jump through advanced skydiving -- our professional instructors will be there each step along the way, helping you to become a safe and knowledgable skydiver. We offer accelerated FreeFall, Tandem Progression, and Static Line Progression training. We are currently the only dropzone in the valley offering AFF instruction.
Students learn about skydiving equipment, freefall skills, parachute flight, emergency procedures, and other responsibilities. Students learn to perform turns and flips in the air, fly their own parachutes, and land without assistance. Upon graduation from training, students continue to learn and improve upon existing skills by jumping with experianced skydivers.
Tandem Progression - Similar to AFF except that the first three jumps are tandem with an instructor. Students learn altitude awareness, freefall position, and they release the parachute on their own. A student then moves into AFF training three jumps ahead.
AFF - Accelerated Free Fall, as in accelerated skills development, not a faster skydive. AFF offers students a chance to immediately begin learning to freefall, with an instructor at their side throughout. From the first AFF jump our students exit from 10k feet above the ground, and fly to 6K feet at which time they release their own parachute and fly safely to the ground. In as few as seven or eight jumps our AFF students are completing turns, flips, and docking with their instructor. AFF gives students not only canopy control skills, but true free fall training one-on-one with a professional instructor.
Static Line - A jump where a cord which is connected to the plane releases the jumper's parachute just moments after exit. This was one of the first methods of training and is still available.
