Current mood:  busy
Hi kids, here is a list of statements. This is not a vinyl wantlist, but you should read it anyway...

1) Obviously we thank anybody who visits our little hip space. The shortest time has been established by Mr S. in 3"03. That was very quick.

2) We spend each night whispering and praying that our radio broadcast is listened weekly via this page by dozens of hype connected people all over the world ; even Tom in far Australia, he's forced to wake up at 5. Remember : 7 PM (Paris French Time) each Friday at this URL.
And don't forget 'Gorgeous 70s' broadcasted each Sunday at 8 PM (also French time and same weblink).

3) At least, we hope that you share most of our influences, and even enjoy our layout.

4) Thanks also for accepting or having accepted our request if you were concerned, even if you wonder whether you really need to.
We don't send requests for nothing. We think we have pretty good taste, you know ?...

5) We sometimes refuse requests (1 or 2 per month, sometimes more)... That's life

6) This is important : to ALL artists (mainly musicians, producers, etc.) : we can generally NOT buy your stuff because we are fµ!?*ç%£~ mad-on-diggin'-students, always short of money. I said 'generally', not 'always'. We just can't buy everything you know, we already have to deal with THE stuff: RECORDS!! !! And with food, sometimes.
However, don't get us wrong : if you have very little or no background from us, it does NOT mean that we don't like your sounds, or that your work is dispensable.
Perhaps, yes. (You may hate bling-bling and dig awful stuff too).
Anyway, if you get a word from Slam, you can almost be sure that your work has a certain artistic deserve, or that we have the same sense of humor.

7) I wrote we are currently students; that means we have very LITTLE time to spend on myspace. You're laughing ? Hum. Do you know what a PhD really is ?? Please note that each week for the two VOLUNTARY radio brdcsts 'Slam' and 'Gorgeous 70s', we need 3-4 hours of preparation, plus 2 hours of (effective) presentation ; we waste half day a week for that !!
But when we do something, we do it seriously : we don't re-play our old mixes, Slam's waves always sound new. And sometimes it's a pretty hard mission.

8) When an album, rmx, demo, etc. sounds good to our ears, you can be sure that we (will) talk about it on the radio. Soon or later.

9) If we don't own your stuff, don't hesitate to send us a demo or a weblink with downloadable goods, @ VBR or at least @256 please... It will always be appreciated. Don't be parano, we're not traffickers... We are an independent media, we know a lot of stroke artists, and we know... our work.
The mail address to join us: "SLAM broadcast RADIO PULSAR 30 rue Franklin 86000 Poitiers FRANCE".

Yip. I have to leave now, I ought to take my pills. C ya.

PS I hope all the errors have been fixed...

Current mood:  catalyzed
Eh les kids. Comme d'hab dans ce post on va détailler tous les mixes diffusés dans notre émission, avec quelques liens utiles vers des blogs ou même parfois des mixes à télech, eh oui. Guettez également les podcasts, et laissez vos impressions !

Hi there. Here are the traditional playlists of our previous shows. Only text, no sound, but some useful weblinks or downloadable stuff here and there... Read carefully! And don't forget to check out the podcasts as well. They're rare, because we only do record a show if we feel that 1) our selections really worth it 2) we're in a good day... right? Obviously thanks to y' all for your support.

Guemo & Chris.

19h05-19h28 DANCEFLOOR SESSION
** Cortex 'Le Visionnaire' Fr 1978 Crypto (a CD/LP reissue of the 3rd album is coming, please visit ALAIN MION's website)
** Skyy 'Let's Celebrate' USA 1981 Salsoul (from their 4th LP 'Skyy Line')
BREAK
** Raydio 'Rock On' USA 1979 Arista (backing group for Ray Parker, Jr. in the early 80s)
** Blue Feather 'Dance' Holland 1982 Mercury (from the 1st LP of this fantastic and sooooooo funky Dutch band ! Not to be missed !!!)
** Eddie Henderson 'Sunchaser' USA 1979 Capitol (the last 70s solo effort of this respectable trumpetist/psychanalist is not as good/interesting as the previous ones. Bombastic intro for this tune but the theme is unfortunately slightly cheesy... efficient anyway)
** Raul De Souza 'Pleasurize' Brasil/USA 1979 Capitol (same remarks excepted that De Souza is a Brasilian trombonist. His '77 & '78 albums have been produced by George Duke)

19h29-19h59 70s FUNK SESSION
** Heat Wave 'Party Poops' (from the LP Central Healing)
** Breakwater 'Do It 'til the Fluid Gets Hot' USA 1978 Arista (their 1st and eponymous LP rocks as hell, right?)
** Wood, Brass & Steel 'Theme Song' USA 1976 ? (project of future members of SugarHill Studio Band: Doug Winbish and Skip McDonald)
** Brick 'Dazz' USA 1976 ? (one of the first recorded versions of this devastating tune, taken from the LP 'Good Hight')
** Harlem Underground Band 'Smokin Cheeba Cheeba' USA 1976 Winley (often sampled track that really rules! little pressing and no right informations about the band, George Benson is mentionned but it seems to be kinda hoax... in fact his name was just put on the sleeve to help the sales. Anyway there might be some respectable players on it, but not George, sorry...)
** Patti Labelle 'Are You Lonely?' USA 1974 Epic (on the same LP you can find the original version of the famous 'Lady Marmelade')

20h-20h30 NEW EXPERIMENTAL SOUND
** Aeolian String Ensemble 'Elysium'
** The KLF
** Paper 'Underground' 2007 (from the LP 'As As')
** Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid '1st & 1st' 2008 (little exclusivity with this opus which is planned to be released c. november. Tremendous drummer Steve Reid is always on the hip side of the musical research. Respect)
** The Alps 2008

20h31-20h42 TRIP HOP & ELECTRO MOODS
** El-P 'Intrigue in the House of India' (taken from 'High Water' feat. Matthew Shipp)

** Creestal 'How's the Man'

19h31-20h ** 70s FUNK & DEEP FUNK
- Milton Wright 'Get No Lovin'' from 'Friends & Buddies'
- Reflections 'Reflex'
- The Perfect Circle 'Dip Stick' from 'Kikin Bakk'
BREAK
- Black Nasty 'Getting Funky 'round Here' from 'Talking to the People'
- Soul Refreshment 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' from eponymous album
(download it HERE and say thanks because it's RARE)
- O. V. Wright 'Nickle and a Nail' from 'Nickle and a Nail and the Ace of Spades'
- The Ambassadors 'Ain't Got the Love from 'Soul Summit'

20h01-20h31** FRENCH 70s PSYCH/ROCK
- Synthesis 'My Obsession' 1971 from the eponymous album issued on tiny label Fabulous. Very rare, original compositions, sounds like Zoo (see below)
- We Feel 'Somewhere Everywhere' 1969 from the mega rare single issued on CBS. Informations and downloads HERE !!
- Ergo Sum 'It's Me' 1972 from the only album recorded by this group, on Thélème. Respectable work by this group still wandering somewhere in Provence.
- Zoo 'Endless Words' 1971 from their 2nd album 'I Shall Be Free' on Riviera, probably their best. It's sounding like Chicago or BST, but with a both soulful and edger approach, thanks to the voice of English singer Ian Bellamy and some powerful horns and violins arrangements. B-side is dope from beginning to end !! we strongly recommend this LP.
BREAK
- Chico Magnetic Band 'Girls of Ocean' 1972 on little label Tuba, tune taken from the last official single issued under their name. Legendary group, heavy heavy sound!!!!!!!!
- Triangle 'Please' 1969 on Pathé Marconi, this track appears on the very first single recorded by the group when they were still three (before saxophonist François Jeanneau was involved) but after the first guitarist left the band. Pretty hard to get (~ 2000 ex.), especially compared to their 3rd single who sold over 100,000 copies !!! Heavy breaks on both sides...
- Claude Engel 'La Grande Pyramide' 1972 from him eponymous LP issued on CBS, this is the only instrumental track and a good showcase for Claude Engel's clever playing (efficient without being demonstrative). The album namely features his brother Marcel, who was already there on their first project 'Omega Plus', and Bernard Lubat with whom he backed soooo many french artists (Michel Ripoche, Joël Daydé or Pierre Vassiliu...), is featured on legendary reordings like Michel Colombier's
'L'Héritier' or Jean-Claude Vannier's 'L'Enfant Assassin des
Mouches' and played for library labels Télémusic and IML. Claude Engel appears on countless 70s french records, right?
- Nato 'L'Amour Interdit par la Loi' fantastic composition by this Belgian poet, taken from his scarce album 'Actuel Un' issued by Barclay (c.1974). This track also figures on the fresh compilation 'Dim Dam Dingue' recently issued by Cosmogol (don't sleep on it because it has been pressed at only 500 copies !!!).

20h32-20h52 ** NU HIP HOP and other interesting prods...
- Durlin Lurt 'Nice' 'Quack the Gonzo' 'OK' 'High' 'Subway' mixed tracks from 'Him Jenson'
- ISMbeats '1 4 Dilla' listen to their tunes by wandering there
BREAK
- Don Fargo 'Wild, Green and Rocky' 'Up the Volcano' 'Prelude to the Accident' taken from 'Accimental' please visit the spacepage of this French producer based in La Rochelle (like un certain Chris J.)

Current mood:  contemplative

Patience donc.

You're reading these lines. Good.
Perhaps you're now thinking that our tastes match with yours.

Hum... Maybe
Anyway, if you want to read and hear more about the delicious sounds that SLAM usually tunes in, you should have a look HERE.
On this blog (the link actually points to a very deep blog) you'll find some nice useful reviews of nice rare european records you were probably not aware of...
To come : a post presenting Charles Bellonzi's recordings for MPI label + excerpts from an interview with the maestro.
And leave feedback if you want more than more...
Aha...
