Today we head to the finish line-

At the starting line we see... the boss hog caddy chasing the station wagon with the new sun roof-

Also, the Chevy Caprice versus the Gremlin (the night before)-

And during the night, one of the team members from the Rusty Dung Beetle gave us a present-

And away we go. The drive was straight and not too exciting. We arrived at Kelly's apartment at about 3:30 PM. The sweet sweet victory filled my veins as we completed our trip with no major problems and didn't crash and burn-

Route to date-

Today was the Tail of the Dragon day. Our instructions included turning onto a senic road that was... a dirt road.

After much heated debate on where we were, we ended up on the correct paved road. We stopped outside of Gatlinburg for some minor repairs to the car. We met with three other team members already working on their cars. We decided to RTV the fuel pump connector so it would quit coming unplugged.

We then moved on to some rather twisty roads and climbed to over 4000 ft. We ran into Tim Hansons SHO who was having fuel pump problems. We offered our assistance since I had a fuel pressure gauge. After a few minutes we were introduced to the parks douce bag rangers. One member was enjoying a brew while we looked at Mr. Hansons SHO, so he was issued a citation and we were gathered around to hear ranger johnsons "speech" on consuming beer in designated areas.

Our friends in the Rickety Van were also harrassed by the park rangers. They were asked to remove their T,T, and S on "show us your tits." So now they have "show us your I."

"The park rangers stole our consonants!" -Rickety Van team member

Tail of the dragon wasn't that bad, it is a very well maintained road with some nice banked turns. Here is our free sticker-

At the parking lot, we roll in to see a team installing a sun roof.

Like I said, words can't describe how atrocious these cars are.

The UK Olds-

And the white limo, with the logo, "Off Like A Prom Dress," made a stunning entry into the starting line. I likes me the gold trim.

And the K car with tin foil-

Here we are getting ready-

And on our way-

Mind you this is just a VERY SMALL sample of the cars on the route. More pics later.

Well today we relaxed in Manhattan and watched a soccer match in a Irish pub. New York public transportation is, well, long. A ride from Staten Island to Brooklyn is a nice short 2.5 hour ride, filled with unmentionable bodily fluids, large rodents, and smelly people.

After we got back from Manhattan, we started to see the cars roll in... and were we in for a shock. The cars are even more ridiculous than I could ever describe. Our first sample was a team from the UK who had purchased an early 90s Olds off craigslist a week ago and sawzalled the roof off to open up the back seats, El Camino style. Painted on the hood was the UK union jack, in high gloss house paint. From the now open back seat was a rather large UK flag We were chastised for using true automotive paint. "Its all in the rollers you choose." When asked what the teams contingency plan on rain is, the response "We will sit in the front seats" which still has a roof. Pictures to follow in the next blog.

Incredible. Like I said, pictures to follow.

Today we made our way to Staten Island for the start of the rally.

Today we paid a visit to the automotive musem in Hershey, PA. Kelly and Greg are shown doing their impression of the JFK assassination.

And our group picture... Kelly, Greg, Ricci and Kuperman.

We had an interesting time wondering through NYC. More about that later.

Route to date-

We stopped at a really cool place in Staunton, VA called White Star Mills. There was some excellent car dealerships downtown such as a Porsche place and a place with some really cool classics such as an old Rolls Royce.

We settled down in the Winchester Best Western and relaxed on some trash beer-

Tomorrow we are on route to Staten Island.

Today we had some problems with the autopilot which delayed our departure time. So we spent some time in Knoxville and feasted on some big hat Arbys.

After replacing some worn and tired parts, we found a wire harness unplugged.

So things are back to normal.

We wanted to get to Hershey, PA today, but our delay forced us to try for the north border of Virginia.

A very nice and beautiful drive from Memphis to Knoxville. We saw such things as...

a single wide on scaffolding

After our advice from Metafilter we decided it would be wise to buy some beer in the middle of no where.

Too bad I'm stupid and forgot fellow rally member  Junkyard Dog lives in Knoxville.

Tomorrow we are off to Hershey, PA.
