Wow, it's a long time since I've posted here! If you're wondering what I've been up to, have a look at http://www.stevelawson.net - plenty of news, blog posts, stuff about the world of music-making and more over there.
Anyway, the big news is that I've got a gig coming up in London with Michael Manring! On Oct 7th, to be precise. At the Round Midnight Jazz And Blues Bar, who are here on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/roundmidnightbar - tickets are £8/£7 in advance, from the venue (online booking available soon - send them a message for more info - it's likely to sell out, so you REALLY want to book early...)
So, to celebrate this most exciting of events (Michael and I haven't played together in the UK for 5 years!), here's a live EP, recorded in Santa Cruz California in January 08. It's all live, all improvised, and features the wonderful Lobelia on vocals on the 3rd track. You can download it, share it, embed the whole playing in your own blog if you want to share it with people. here it is:

Hi all Here's a quick note about a summer sale that started today. Inspired by the Amazon MP3 sale, I started a summer sale for indie artists - I dropped the price of Grace And Gratitude on CDBaby to just $3.50 - http://cdbaby.com/cd/slawson5 - I'll rotate which albums are available for v. cheaps over the next few weeks... Grace And Gratitude is lots of people's favourite of my albums... worth a download, honest ;) But I also started a thread about the Indie Music Sale over on my newest website, http://www.solobasssteve.com - it's replacing my old forum as the place for discussion, chat, ideas, nonsense - things that don't really fit onto my main blog at http://www.stevelawson.netthe thread is at here - and has a growing list of indie artists offering their download albums for $5/£3 or less... go and add yours, and check out some of those that are there! Hope you're all doing well - life's v. busy here, and I'm trying to fit in enough time to work on the ideas for the new album (many of the development videos for which are posted on my facebook music page, linked at the top...) Stay in touch, and spread the word, much love Steve

Hello :) Anyone still here? It may look like I've been really quiet of late... truth is it's only on myspace that things have been silent. On the rest of the web, I've been rather busy - best place to go for that is over to my website - www.stevelawson.net But, I did think it was worth an update here to post a new bit of music that came up the other day - it was just recorded onto an iPod touch via a lovely podcasting app called AudioBoo... I was just playing, still trying to find some kind of direction for the new album, and this happened. It's not much, but I like it :) hopefully there'll be more where that comes from soon...

I've just uploaded two new videos, recorded at a house concert in London in December: here's 'Despite my Worst Intentions', which is on Youtube: and here's a new version of 'Grace And Gratitude' on Vimeo: Grace And Gratitude, from a house concert from Steve Lawson on Vimeo. Both of these were recorded on my Nokia N95 phone, using the built in mic as well. Amazing what you can do with a mobile phone these days! Enjoy!

Finally, the details have been nailed down, and I'll be doing a 'future of social media for music makers' masterclass in Santa Ana, the night before NAMM starts. Date: Jan 14thTime: 7.30pmVenue: The Olde Ship, Santa Ana (map)
Cost : $15.00Description: "Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got... no, wait, that's the Cheers theme-tune... anyway, it's true that the times they have a-changed for anyone trying to make it in the music world - record labels are resorting to increasingly desperate measures to make money and artists are getting squeezed. The smart money is definitely on handling your own career, out there on the world wide interwebs. But how? There are million services promising audience reach, targeted email addresses, high profile this and big bucks that... most of which are glorified spam email campaigns. So what can we do? How can we, in the words of Rage Against The Machine, 'Take the Power Back'? "Enter Steve Lawson, a solo bassist and ambient/electronic music pioneer from the UK. "Steve's managed to keep his career buoyant for the last decade, all via online interaction direct with his audience. He was exploring social media tools before the term 'social media' existed, and was using the web to connect with fans and fellow artists back in the heady days of Web 1.0. "These days he splits his time between playing his beguiling cinematic music - at venues ranging from house concerts to the Royal Albert Hall - and teaching other musicians how to form genuine connections with their audience, to understand the new attention economy of the internet, and make the most of the opportunities that are out there. It's not easy, it's not a get rich quick scheme, and it probably won't result in you making a million. But if that's what you're looking for, buy a lottery ticket. The music world has never been a good place to get rich. This is a chance to discuss, to ask questions and to come up with workable strategies for finding the people who want your music to soundtrack their lives. Sounds great, huh?" There you go. Please do forward this page to any friends of yours who are going to NAMM, and may benefit from a lil' StevieStyle social media make-over. And if you're at NAMM, please do drop by and say hi. Lobelia and I will be at the Looperlative, Modulus and Accugroove booths as well as around and about. And we'll be tweeting, streaming some video, and generally having a lark!
