All over the world, people talk about politicians being a bunch of crooks. These sort of figures - statistics from The Times newspaper in London about the British members of parliament (that's the equivalent of congressmen in the US) - paint a bleak picture of that nation's "leaders" ... but it appears to be the same in many countries these days. take a look at these numbers:
Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees and has the following statistics?

29 have been accused of spouse abuse

7 have been arrested for fraud

19 have been accused of writing bad cheques

117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses

3 have done time for assault

71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

4 have been arrested on drug-related charges

8 have been arrested for shoplifting

21 are currently defendants in lawsuits

84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year

Which organization is this?

It's the 635 members of the House of Commons, the
same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Anyone watching the English Premier League leaders Arsenal this week would have been astounded at the number of chances they created in beating Steaua Bucharest earlier in the week. It may just have been a 1-0 result, but the Gunners were in outstanding form, stroking the ball about and creating more than a dozen clear-cut chances.
Now, either they need to start converting more chances wheen they have done all the hard work, or they are going to see sides who defend with 10 men behind the ball creating a single break and racing away for an equaliser. A 1-0 scoreline is all well and good, but to be assured of a victory, it is generally considered that one needs to be three goals up on your opponents.
With some tricky games coming up in the next couple of months, the Gunners' forwards need to be confident of finding the net on a far more regular basis. Either that or their unbeaten streak of nine games in all competitions won;t last too much longer.
They appear not to have missed Thierry Henry too much so far, but as winter sets in and pitches become slower and heavier through rain, are we going to see their neat passing game disrupted by poor surfaces - particularly at venues in the north of England, where it's not uncommon to find stadia with surfaces more like cabbage patches than billiard tables.
Off the field, the players appear to be unperturbed so far by the potential disruptions that could come about with the involvement of the Russian billionaire Usmanov, and one feels that they are well shepherded in such matters by their tem boss, Arsene Wenger, who is such a skilled man manager who knows how to keep such distractions from the players' minds. The 'Professor'  has been there and done it all, and as a Master of economics he will have a battle plan for every financial occasion - that's why Arsenal are net profit-makers on player transactions, something that can't be said for many of the clubs in the top flight.
What do you think? Let me know your thoughts on the North London giants ... can they win the Champions League this season, or is the Premiership again a realistic target? The young side that are representing the club are clearly at the top of the table on merit - now can they stay there?

Who's best when it comes to
schools rugby rankings in KZN?

Watch the results unveil themselves during the rugby season as we put together a list based on performances, the strength of teams fielded by a school, and a percentage-based ranking.
This list will be updated on all the results received from schools, newspapers, websites and emails, so if you think your school is missing out, subscribe or email me. Each result will be factored into the rankings list, and it will be starting soon. So don't visit this space on a regular basis for updates.

How the points are awarded:
5 points awarded for a win
3 points for a draw
1 bonus point for losing by 7 points or fewer
1 bonus point for scoring 30 points or more against a team from the same tier, or 50 points or more against a team from a lower tier, or 15 or more against a team from a higher tier.
2 bonus points for playing against a team from a higher tier (regardless of result)
2 additional bonus points awarded for beating a team from a higher tier
2 bonus points for beating teams recognised at being national top 20 from outside the province, or quality international opponents
Must have played 4 games to make it on to the rankings
