I walked out of work today and took a deep breath.  The first word that came to mind was "delicious".   And then I wondered how odd that was.  And then I wanted to lie down in it.  Pretty odd.

This has been Deep Thoughts...

GCU gave out "Spirit" awards to employees today and I received one!  I think 5 people (including me) were given one out of over 1,000 employees.  It's going to be an award given out quarterly, but this was the first time anyone won it.  Whoo-hoo!

I listed the top bands on my "Music" section and just started writing.  I'm not technically trained, so it's all about the feeling I get when I listen.

10 Arguments Against Gay Marriage?

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like plastic surgery, polyester, Paris Hilton, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract, not to mention looks great in a tux.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, divorce is still illegal, and it is still customary to hit your wife over the head and drag her back to your cave for the honeymoon.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed, as would all 8 of Elizabeth Taylor's blessed unions.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children.

Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children, more garbage, and lots more cars on the road!

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society we expressly forbid single parents to raise children, instead we steal them and force them to live in an FLDS prison camp..er, compound.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, that new-fangled television, cell phones, or longer life spans.

Glad we sorted THAT out!

Thanks to Arriel for posting this on her blog.  I wanted to share it because I am another person who is sad that Arizona passed the ridiculous, waste of time proposition to ban gay marriage.

...admitted in a settlement by the Republican Party.

An agreement announced today by Obama for America, the Republican National Committee, the Democratic National Committee, the Michigan Republican Party, the Michigan Democratic Party, the Macomb County Republican Party, the Macomb County Democratic Party, and plaintiffs Duane Maletski, Sharon Lopez, and Frances M. Zick protects the voting rights of foreclosure victims. The settlement acknowledges the existence of an illegal scheme by the Republicans to use mortgage foreclosure lists to deny foreclosure victims their right to vote. This settlement has the force of law behind it and ensures that Republicans cannot disenfranchise families facing foreclosure. [my emphasis]

I blogged about the scheme previously here.

By Digby:

Maybe we should start educating people to see politicians the way they see athletes. They certainly may have lots of opinions about what a team should do. But even the most egotistical drunk screaming obscenities from the stands doesn't truly believe that he's a better hitter than Manny Ramirez or that the team should hire a bunch of guys off the streets to play in the outfield. They have more respect for the game than that. It would be nice if citizenship required as much respect for the country.

Overall impression:
Obama - mature, collected
McCain - old, grumpy

Obama does a good job reminding people that McCain IS part of the system.  He is tied to Bush.  Obama is a break from the past 8 years.

McCain said he'll get Osama bin Laden "no matter what" and that he knows how to get him.  Sooo...what?  McCain is saving his super-awesome strategy to catch bin Laden until he's President, and if YOU don't vote for McCain, he's not telling.  So nyah nyah.

Also, what is up with calling Obama "that one"??  How incredibly disrespectful!  What is wrong with McCain?  And what's next, calling him "boy" or "son".  That moment was unsettling, especially following the news that McCain-Palin supporters are getting violent.

I was annoyed with Brokaw always mentioning time after Obama, even though McCain also went over time.

Obama did a great job explaining his health care plan, and McCain didn't.  Obama was RIGHT ON that health care is a RIGHT.  McCain called it a responsibility.  Huh?

McCain looked stiff and as if he was holding back his crotchety self.  (What a creepy smile he has!!)  Obama was pretty relaxed and in control.  I look forward to the next (final) debate!
