Hi Friends,
I've just booked a show at the Live Lounge in High St Ken on 21 October. I'll perform it solo or as a duo. Not sure yet. See the gigs on my profile. 8.30pm start. 183 High St Ken.

HOF project still needs more singers. Click here.

I've been sick this week but sitting in bed working on recordings for stevekopandy.com/hof - pianos sounding great and looking forward to meeting all my singers.

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society- not sure who said that but I agree. So in my sickness I spare a thought for the huge percentage of our planet who are sick and enslaved, the people we often forget when things are going so well for us.

For all my new fans, and old ones. Thanks for finding me and sticking around.
Must be off. Enjoy life this week.

Breaking Boundaries:
Listen to and download the song (Free!) here:

I wanted to get Kris and Alf to write this blog.
They comment on every one.

So this time I'll be commenting on their blog!

They chose the song.
I like their choice.

here it is:

Upon first listen, you may hear strange bell sounds, anticipating a piano or guitar riff to take the lead. Yet that's not the case in Breaking Boundaries...

The album “A True Dream” (which this track features on) was made in a studio called the “Jungle” and mainly consists of keys, samples, loops, live drums, and electric guitars.

"Mainly old 80’s keyboard sounds I used to make this song.  And of course the violin samples."
-S. Kopandy

It’s smooth.  Cool.  Luscious.

Breaking Boundaries starts off simply and evolves into a much more complex feel - an absolute aural delight.

So many sounds to take in that you can just get completely lost amongst them... much like the lyrics.  "So alone in here with you"... "so much secrecy we hold from outside"... two people, consumed by their feelings for one another.

There is a desperate sense in the words, yet the music suggests a feeling of calm anticipation... and it holds true throughout the entire song.

The vocal layers/back-up are superb, and pull your attention to the song – it’s riveting.  Take all the sounds that sum up this stunning track along with the excellent job of vocals and, voila!  A classic is born.

This simply is velvety chocolate for the ears, and the evident 80's influence is a fresh breath of air.

Liken it to a sweet dessert for a nice candlelit dinner... ;)

I'm sipping a Gin and Tonic on a Hot London night.
Reminiscing. A little down and a little hot. I can't cool down.

I’ve got nothing to hold onto- except all the things I lose. It’s like the only thing worth keeping is the thing I can’t keep hold of. And I’m lost in a beautiful past with you –and don’t you know it. You know how I feel, but will you please tell me how you feel, because I’m giving you too much info. You listen silently and I wish you’d just share how you’re feeling because your silence is killing me. Do I keep on being honest, letting you know how much I’m hurting? Or do I play your game? Do I bottle it up to appear strong like you’re doing? I’m waiting for you to say something. And all this time I’m waiting I’m listening to the songs that you introduced me to.. the ones I love.. the ones that remind me of you. There is no closure. These feelings are open ended. I’ve just opened something else you gave me.. and it will always be mine. There is no closure. Only a slow and painful dying out. Pretend that you didn’t hear me say.. I’m missing you every day.

Pretend that you didn’t hear me need.. your RSVP.

Hi friends.
We're only a couple of weeks off finishing the lyric series blog.

Often when writing, I start with the subject of the lyric.

Do you want to submit subjects for future songs?
What's really affecting your heart at the moment?

Feel free to contribute.

Steve.

This week I have special Guest Blogger: Ben Hutton.....

.. ..

Ben is the frontman songwriter for Paperadio- that’s the band I used to be in before I went Solo. Ben and I have been playing music together for 15 years. I learnt a lot of what I know from this guy, and the band Joel and Ebow. Thrilled to call them friends.....

.. ..

This Friday night in London, Paperadio are doing their farewell show. After so many years, a stack of songs recorded, including a killer album called ‘Novella’ (2008), and some amazing live shows, They’re calling it a day. I will be there with bells on at the Borderline on Friday night, and so will hundreds of others. Only 7 quid but get there early as it may sell out.....

.. ..

Check out the songs at www.myspace.com/paperadio or buy ‘Novella’ on Itunes. I kid you not it is an amazing album.....

.. ..

So now over to Ben, the author of Fever, who kindly loaned the song to me for my album ‘Based on’....

.. ..

FEVER:
I like the word 'Fever' for love - hot/cold/sweaty/a little crazy/better with paracetamol.

My brother (ebow) and I wrote it in Australia before some sessions we did in Melbourne with David Carr.  Sometime in the past of Paperadio - circa 2001/2.  It was a song that started after Ian had been listening to quite a bit of Muse's first record - Showbiz and so there is a bit of that grandiose melodrama in the song.  David softened it a little into a more palatable earnestness.  The theme is pretty simple - love and all its idiocies.  Loving someone like a nicotine addiction but seeing and knowing their ability to turn you into a wreck-  or something like that.

What we went for in the end was a feeling.  We wanted something that felt dreamy and in lilting 6/8 to create that sad, resigned vibe.  Most of that is down to Dave's production and one morning we came into the Melbourne studio to find he'd sorted the middle section's vocal idea 'is this love ooh...yeah' on the top of some fancy chords i'd worked on earlier in the day.  It was love at first listen.  Ebow played most of the electrics and I think we had an average sized studio argument about making it heavier and less 'neutered'..... I kind of preferred it lighter and Ebow wanted more big guitars.

…the 'lightness' won.

Benjamin Hutton....

.. ..

Have a listen to fever here.

.. ..

So see you all at the Borderline on Fri night. I’ll be the guy down the front with the teary eyes.....

.. ..

Steve....
