John Lassater in all his infinite wisdom has brought back  Disney Animation Studios from the dead. And now they'll be producing a slew of 2-D screen before Disney features. The first of which is a new Goofy short. I've been waiting to see this for 2 years...and here it is:

[01 Oct 2008 | Wednesday]

Jesus Christ is going to have to come down from heaven and do a B-52's covers record if ANYTHING is going to replace Department of Eagle's "In Ear Park" as my ABSOLUTE FUCKING FAVORITE record of 2008.

Daniel Rossen, man. Chalk him up there with the best. I'm pretty pumped for the new Grizzly Bear record based on "While You Wait For The Others" and "Two Weeks"--but I'm having a hard time believing there is such a thing as "better than In Ear Park".

It really is that good. Go buy this bad-boy on iTunes right now.

MP3's:
No One Does It Like You- Department of Eagles
In Ear Park- Department of Eagles

("Teenagers" is like the greatest track EVAH...)

The only think that sucks about the Pitchfork Music Festival, is that every year after it's over--you have to wait another year for it to start back up again. Good crazy fun all around in '08.  Not really a headliner (per se) this year, a lot of smaller bands, and it actually RAINED. That being said, I think the fest actually found its stride this year. Mad props for relocating the Balance Stage--after seeing one show over there, I can't imagine why they EVER put it behind the Record Tent.

My Top 3:
1. The Hold Steady
2. King Khan & The Shrines
3. The Occidental Brothers Dance Band International

But everyone kicked ass this year. No sound problems (ala CAT POWER) within ear-shot. VAMPIRE WEEKEND was probably the most fun we had throughout (even though we didn't actually WATCH their set). Lots of tribal dancing in the mud...

Here's a couple of videos. I wish I could find a torrent of the live streams they put up on Pitchfork's website, but 'till then...

"Black Magic"- Jarvis Cocker

"The Underdog"- Spoon

"Peacebone"- Animal Collective

"Melody Day"- Caribou

"English House"- Fleet Foxes

Decisions, decisions...

I'm geeking out over some of the smaller, up and coming bands that are going to be there this year (The Ruby Suns, The Occidental Brothers Dance Band International, The Dodos...). But I'm most excited to see THE HOLD STEADY break it down with some "Stay Positive" tunes!

If you're staying with me. Give me a call or hit me back here (if you're coming Friday, I think we're all gonna go see "THE DARK KNIGHT" at the IMAX too). Love you all, let me know who you wanna see...

I bumped right into Kosuke Fukudome leaving Wrigley Field today. I didn't even realize who he was (because I'm a loser. I work for the Cubbie's and don't even know who their pride and glory is). I was like, "Oh, sorry guy" and he looked at me all confused, wondering how I got back there and said, "Do you work here?" and I was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah" and then he gets all smiley and is like--"Me too!"

What a badass.

Then I went to this advance screening of "PROMOTION" this newish flick coming out this summer that they filmed here in Chicago. It stars John C. Reily and Sean William Scott.

It was...not so good.

But Sean and I shared a piss together and I bragged about it all night on the bus.

I was just sippin' on my D.C.--offering drinks to anyone who would listen, like--"Sure, you don't want a sip? I just pissed next to SEAN WILLIAM SCOTT".

And they just looked at me like I'm some sort of jackass. Which I'm starting to believe I am.

Then I met a guy who was reading "BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS" aaaaand listening to THE HOLD STEADY.

We're like...friends now.

Real Quick:

Walking home the other night, I notice a ton of cops in my neighborhood. Don't think anything of it. It turns out that there was a cougar on the prowl in Roscoe Village. The cops made a hunt of it and found the damned thing in this guy's back yard (two blocks away no less). So the cat comes at--and the cops blast in the face RESIDENT EVIL style, and it was all dead and shit. THE END.

Walking to Wrigley Field a couple days back, I notice that the Geico plane that flies around Wrigleyville is moving paaaaaainfully slow. I say to myself, "Hm. Planes don't fly that slow". It begins to putter and rock against the wind. And the it starts to fall out of the sky....I was like, "Woah-dang". Fortunately, the pilot wasn't hurt. He was able to slowly sail into a field somewhere. But his plane was FUCKED...fortunately, I believe he was covered through Geico. He saved a whole ton of money or something...

Later that night, I'm waiting at the Bus Stop on Clark and Belmont---and I realize that I'm surrounded by a ton of transvestites.

There's nothing more to that story, I just wanted to put that out there. One even winked at me!

Yesterday was National Record Store Day---and there were soooo many sweet things going on, free 7"'s and what not. But most importantly--Rogue Wave (between their Schuba shows) played a free acoustic set at Reckless Records in Wicker Park. And it was SOOOO awesome. They sound so much better stripped down...or shall we say, less like R.E.M...

Anyway, peep this:

After that, I went and tried Absinthe for the first time. It really does taste like black licorice, that's no joke. And that stuff gets you tipsy fast. Before I knew it, I found myself talking about what great movies "Jurassic Park" and "Beauty and the Beast" are to the bartender...

..

So.

Saw The Fuck Buttons and Caribou at The Elblow room last night.

And MY GOD was it terrific.

Both bands are twice as good in the flesh.

When FUCK BUTTONS started doing "Ribs Out"--they both jumped off the stage with their drum sticks and started doing this badass tribal dance all over the fucking place--it was some giddy ass shit.

And don't even get me STARTED on Caribou...

I don't know WHO the drummer was that they had last night, but I can honestly say...he's the most talented motha-lucker I've ever seen in my life.

Apparantly it's near impossible to find a live cut from Caribou, so you'll have to settle with this youtube nonsense, just to remind you how great these guys are.

Again. Not the drummer from last night. But still...

Apparantly, I have somewhat of a fetish for legs. A series has begun itself. Here's to nostalgia:

"Legs"

"Legs"
[24 Aug 2007 | Friday]
The new shit's right here:

Just for kicks, here's the shooting script:

"SOME THING THAT SUCK ABOUT US"

JORDAN

What are some things that suck about us?

DAVID

We both still live at home.

JORDAN

Yeah, that does suck.

DAVID

We have shitty cars.

JORDAN

And we don't really have girlfriends.

DAVID

Yeah, the ladies hate us.

JORDAN

Our little brothers are more motivated than us.

DAVID

Plus, I'm getting fat.

JORDAN

Our jobs are stupid.

DAVID

We don't have any money.

JORDAN

Yeah, we don't have any monies.

DAVID

I can't play an instrument. And I'm not good looking enough.

JORDAN

We smoke.

DAVID

Yeah, that's real bad.

JORDAN

We both still live at home.

DAVID

I already said that.

JORDAN

Yeah, but it really does suck.

DAVID

It really does.

A Pause.

JORDAN

You think you're happy?

DAVID nods a bit

DAVID

I guess. You?

JORDAN shrugs indifferently.

DAVID

Hey, did you ever figure out how to spell pomegranate?

JORDAN

Yeah, it's p-o-m-e-g-r-a-n-a-t-e.

DAVID

I fucking TOLD you that it was t-e.

JORDAN

Sorry, I thought it was d-e.

DAVID

It's OK. I can't even really spell. That's something that sucks about me.

A Pause.

DAVID

You want to go tear up that TV?

JORDAN

OK.

They do.

THE END.

---Oh, the power of ad-lib.
