What makes ISP different from any other suicide prevention organization?

ISP employs a very different methodology than the mainstream approach for those that are suicidal, and for the survivors.  We are not about long term treatments, medications, or labeling.  We believe that the only way we can judge anything in life is by the results.....

Insanity is defined as; someone, a culture, doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.  Unfortunately, in our country, and most of the world, the accepted approach to treating those that are suicidal and our attitude toward survivors can only be seen as insanity.....

I've always been kind of a voyeur when it comes to life, studying why we do what we do, and seeing how change occurs.  As a result of this view point I have concluded that we, humans, only have one choice.  It is also important to note that humans are the only creature on this planet that has this choice.  Everything we do is preceded by an image in our mind.
This also includes what we feel, emotions.  If the images in our mind that we are watching, viewing, is disturbing, then our attitude will be disturbed.  If we are view images that bring pleasure to us, we will be in a pleasant mood.  Sounds simple enough, right?  Well, there is
more.  If we have had enough unpleasant experiences in our life, it can be difficult to view pleasant images.  So, how do we rid ourselves of the negative images that plague some of us?....

This is where I, and others I work with, have adapted some old technologies to a change our hard wired beliefs.  Once our belief's have been changed that our associations are attached too, that form our reactions to situations and circumstances, then the quality of our life improves.....

How long does that new process work?  I know that this may sound absurd, but it takes a matter of just a few hours.  There are requirements for this process to truly work.....

Over a two year period, we have had a 100% success rate.  No one that has undergone the process has committed suicide, or homicide, and the quality of life has greatly improved immediately.  The work we are doing has literally saved thousands of lives and you are now a part of this important work.....

Treating the survivors is also important after the grieving process has subsided.  We do not believe in eliminating any emotion from a person’s experience of life, only the way we react to life.  Good and bad is a learn perception.  Perception can be changed.  Change the way you look at something and the thing you are looking at will change.  But, first we must accept the fact that what is, is.....

At the point I have your head spinning, so I'll conclude that our only obstacle is funding, not a lack of clients.  This is especially true over the past year because of the economic down turn in the world.  Our work load has doubled and funding has been cut in half.....

Sincerely,....

The issue that only ISP is addressing; we do not make surviving family member's clean the operating room after a family member has died due to an emergency surgery, just because they did not have health insurance.  We do not make surviving family member's of a homicide clean the murder scene, or make them pay for it to be cleaned.  Yet, everyday, we make 60 surviving family member's clean suicide scenes out of shame, guilt, a lack of insurance, or a lack of money to pay for it to be done.  There are twice as many suicides in the United States than homicides every year. All donations go to provide national emergency post suicide family support, suicide awareness and its prevention.

With over 90 suicides each day in the USA, and for as little as $25.00, ISP can provide the necessary materials for one of our national volunteers to clean one suicide scene for a surviving family.

How many families will you help?

In kind gifts now being accepted

I'm writing you today to discuss my public option of "Death with Dignity".

First of all, I deal with death on a daily bases, and I personally clean up suicide scenes for families that do not have insurance, or the money to have it be done.  I've been doing this work for over twenty years, ever since my own attempted suicide.  I deal with suffering on a daily bases.  "Death with dignity" is nothing more than assisted suicide!

I meet people everyday that are suffering; they are suffering from financial disasters, relationships gone bad, from the loss of a child, and the list goes on and on.

When we step over the line, by terminating the lives of the terminally ill, and it becomes acceptable, then we will start looking at those with birth defects, mentally ill, homeless, ugly, etc.

We have learned nothing from the past.  This is the same road that Germany took during World War II.

"Death with Dignity" is a devaluation of the sanctity of human life.

Suffering is manageable, death is not!

My real problem with "Death with Dignity", "Assisted Suicide" is that it undermines all the work I have been doing for over twenty years. Subconsciously, when one human life is devalued it devalues all humans.  There is no measure for suffering, no scale, and it is completely objective to the individual that is experiencing it.  For me, a person that is suffering the loss of a child, a little baby, they are suffering much more than any terminal illness person could ever imagine.

Quality of life?  I've been to homes that people have not gone into their dead child's room for ten years and still, every time they walk by the child's room they are incapacitated by grief. This is true suffering, at the deepest level. Think about it.

Sincerely,

"Yesterday, a father committed suicide in front of this wife and children with a shotgun.  Their home is now unlivable as blood, brain matter, bone and other bodily fluids are on the ceiling, walls, furniture and floor.  They do not have insurance, or the money to pay for the suicide scene to be cleaned. "..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My apologies for the graphic story you have just read, but it is happening across America over ninety times every day.

For every suicide, over ninety a day nationally, there are twenty-five documented attempted suicides.  That is over two thousand two hundred and fifty people a day that are in a hopeless state of mind, that have given up.

You may be thinking, "What can I do to help stop this madness"?

ISP Give's emergency post-suicide family support, raises suicide awareness and teaches suicide prevention.

As for Me, the president of ISP, it is a moral obligation to clean up a suicide scene, personally, if we do not have the Funds.

ISP Gives training to U.S. Army troops, tribes, public schools, mental heath professionals and senior citizens.  ISP has the most cutting edge technology when it comes to suicide prevention training and is happy to Contribute what we have learned to help our troops and the citizens of the USA.

Assisting families at the time of a loss of this magnitude is unequal at any other time in a person's life.  When a person cleans up a suicide scene of a loved one they are put in the highest risk group for future suicides.  By assisting these families we directly affect suicide rates making your tax deductable Donation have the highest impact on our community.

There are two more reasons that morally we should provide Funding to stop a family or, close friend, from cleaning up a suicide scene; as a so-called civilized civilization, ISP understands that we have a moral obligation to assist these families, as no one would want to be placed in their shoes.  Secondly, Given the health risks associated with possible infection from blood and other bodily fluids can diminish the quality of life and/or, lead to a persons early death.

"Mommy says that daddy is in heaven? Daddy's head popped?  Why did daddy's head pop? Mommy and daddy were yelling and daddy's head popped? There is red stuff on the walls? Mommy said, "Don't touch?"  Mommy is sad? Why did my daddy's head pop?  Statement given to Officer Smith by five year old daughter, Sally."

Know "WHY" to prevent a suicide!
Over 90 people commit suicide in the USA everyday.

A message from ISP (International Suicide Prevention)

FACTS ON SUICIDE

  • More people die by suicide than murder or HIV/AIDS.
  • For every suicide there are 25 attempted suicides.
  • It is estimated that 80% of all in home suicides are being cleaned up by a family member due to a lack of funds, or because of the guilt and shame they feel, they can not bring themselves to include one more person in their very personal tragic situation, including an insurance adjuster.
  • Once a person cleans up a suicide scene of a loved one, they are in the highest risk group for future suicides.  They are now 75% more likely to commit suicide later on in life than the general population.
  • Of all suicides, 75% of them have told someone of their intentions.

Know "WHY" about suicide!

If you learn "WHY" you will save more lives than "CPR" or the "Heimlich Maneuver".

"WHY" stands for the three rules to prevent a suicide:

W -  Warning signs of suicide.

H  -  How to help someone that is suicidal.

Y  -  You will personally make a difference.

The two main reasons for people to attempt suicide are because of romance problems and/or financial issues.

So, if you know someone that has just recently experienced a breakup of a relationship, or the loss of a job, following three simple rules called, "WHY" can save a person's life.

Human beings have a tendency to associate their self-worth & identity with their possessions and positions in life.  Romance and finance can give individuals a false sense of control, power or security.  When either one, romance or financial, situation changes drastically, some individuals will experience a feeling of being out of control, powerlessness, and in an identity crisis.

The top warning signs of someone that is contemplating suicide are:

  1. They tell you that they want to die, or simply say that they can not do it anymore.
  2. They give away prized possessions.
  3. They are suddenly happy after a long period of depression.
  4. In youth, 10 to 18 years of age, depression is mostly expressed through apathy.

Help:

If you know that someone is suicidal, and you do not know what to do, call 911.  It is better that someone be mad at you for awhile than for you to be attending their funeral in a few days.

Watch:

If you know that someone just found out that they are breaking up from a relationship, just be fired, laid off, lost money in the stock market, etc., the first forty-eight hours is crucial for them to process the change in their value, status, and self image.  It is imperative that you do not leave individuals alone during this process as they my act out in a knee jerk reaction to a major life change, such as already stated.  If after forty-eight hours they are not accepting the change, then you need to get them professional help.

Listen:

Listen to what people have to say without wanting to fix them.  By allowing someone to verbalize the thoughts in their head, without judgment, will allow them to see that there is another way.

Questions:

We have control over two things in this life: what we focus on and the intensity of what we are focusing on.  Getting an individual to change their focus off of a suicidal thought is easily changed through questions.  Asking a person a question will immediately redirect their focus to a new thought, requiring considerable effort to return to thoughts of suicide.

Looking forward, not backwards:

Those that are suicidal tend to live in the past, not able to see tomorrow without their identity.  We can only have one thought at a time, so getting another person to set a goal is a good way to move their focus off of what is, to what will be.

CONTROLLING OUR EMOTIONS -

Do you have a habitual emotion that is holding you back from experiencing happiness?

Do you know that how we feel on the inside, at any given time regardless of what our outward situation or circumstance maybe, is a choice?

I'm a trauma scene specialist, helping those in extreme emotional distress, so I have to get results fast, and so can you.

How would you like for me to share with you a technique I use to help the traumatized within minutes feel better?

FOCUS –

What you are thinking about will determine your emotion.  Controlling your thoughts is the first step to changing how you feel.  The first question you have to ask yourself is, "Do you want to feel better?"

If the answer is, "yes", then we can proceed.

At any given time you can change how you are feeling by recalling an experience that was pleasant.  You can do this by asking yourself a question.

Here are some examples; have you ever taken a vacation?  Do you remember your first kiss?  What was the funniest movie you have ever seen?  What is your favorite fruit?

Once you have an answer to one of these questions, start to RELIVE the experience with all of your senses.  Close your eyes and see, taste, smell, touch, feel the whole experience.  While you are still in the pleasant experience, touch your fore finger to your thumb.  Anytime you want to return to this experience, from now on, all you have to do is close your eyes and touch your fore finger to your thumb.

Start making a list of experiences that you have had in your life that were pleasant.  Carry this list with you at all times.  When you find that your focus is on unpleasant things, pull out your list and close your eyes.  Change your mind!

I hope this has helped you?

Sincerely,

Matthew Dovel

The price of gasoline is out of control!

The cost of food has sky rocketed!

Global temperatures are getting warmer!

There is no end in sight for the war in Iraq!

The housing market has collapsed!

And, the US Dollar is worthless!

What do all of these issues have in common?

Well, these issues are all are contributing to a higher suicide rate!

It is a fact; over a million people commit suicide every year!

Some would say, "What difference does it make? It's the law of nature!  It's a thinning of the herd!"

What difference does it make?

The day, after a hurricane, an old man was surveying the damage to his coastal home.  As he did he noticed a small boy on the beach scurrying about in a frantic manner, and he decided to investigate.  As the old man got closer to the boy, he could see that the little boy was picking up starfish that had washed onto the beach as a result of the hurricane.  The boy was taking the starfish one at a time back to the waters edge, and throwing them back in the ocean.

The old man looked up and down the beach seeing a million starfish that had washed ashore, and he new that within a few hours the hot sun would kill them all.  Such was life the old man thought to himself.  After watching the little boy for a few minutes he finally asked the boy, "Hey boy!  What are you doing?"

The boy responded, "Can't you see?  I'm saving these starfish!  If they stay on the beach they will die!"

The old man said, "Can't you see?  There are a million starfish on the beach!  There are too many for hundreds of people to save, much less one little boy.  What difference will it make if you save a couple of starfish? Why don't you just give up?  You can't possibly make a difference!"

The little boy just stood still for a few minutes thinking about what the old man had just said, and then he reached down and picked up another starfish, ran to the waters edge, and threw it back into the ocean.  Then, looking at the old man one more time, the little boy shouted back to the old man, "It makes a difference to that one!"

Save the starfish!

Please help us make a difference by making a contributory donation to ISP today!
