For those on Facebook who want to get updates on Dave's enduring legacy.

Friends of Dave have started group "RIP Disco D"
Saturday, December 22, 2007
Everyone's got one, this is mine.

Favorite 10 new albums I heard this year.

1. Interpol - Our Love To Admire (Capitol)
Love it or hate it, I came back to this more than any other album and it only got better.

2. Various Artist - After Dark (Italians Do It Better)
This may be the equivalent of being 7 and dressing up with your girl friend (not girlfriend), and pretending to be in a band in front of the mirror, but when its this stylish and moody, how could you hate it?

3. Various Artists - Cocoon Compilation 6 (Cocoon Recordings)
Audion, Dettman, Onur Ozer and MyMy's "Flash Freeze". This is the perfect cross-section to show why Techno is the most exciting it's been in years.

4. Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals (We Are Free)
Upon first listen, gave me the feeling of hearing Broken Social Scene for the first time, a feeling of fun, new and exciting times.

5. Pantha du prince - This Bliss (Dial)
Haunting, mesmerizing and all those "sublime" words people like to use.

6. Peter and the Wolf - The Ivori Palms (Whiskey And Apples Records)
Thanks Will Calcutt!

7. Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedaa (Secretly Canadian)
If only for "The Opposite of Hallelujah".

8. Uuitsitalo - Karhunainen (Huume)
The marriage of dance and abstraction like only Vladislav Delay can do, the type of record that goes unheralded, but proof of consistent genius.

9. New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom (Modular)
This album as a whole doesn't get many plays, but since my lady put them put "Ice Cream" on a mix cd for me, I've been hooked on them.

10. Ghostly and Spectral releases
Someone's gotta do it. I'm extremely proud of our releases from Audion, Cepia, Daso, Kiln, Lusine, Matthew Dear, Mobius Band, Osborne, Par Grindvik and Skeletons and The Kings Of All-Cities.

An update on the latest in Dave's ongoing memory.

-The Neutral Zone unveiled their excellent live performance space, the B-Side and revamped recording studio last month, much of which was acquired from your donations and goodwill. The night featured a variety of live performances from One.Be.Lo, Great Lakes Myth Society, Fred Thomas, James T. Cotton, etc. and a touching speech by Dave's father.

You can keep up with the live performance schedule at the B-Side here:
www.myspace.com/thebsidevenue

The studio space is shown here:

-You can see a couple pics of the B-Side event and the mural painted in Dave's honor at this Flickr page. I set up this group for anyone to share any pictures/flyers/etc that reminds you of Dave or to just stop by and have a look. It makes me sad, but also helps to stay connected to Dave by remembering good memories with him. If any photos are mis-credited or you would like removed, please let me know.

-There have been a slew of high profile articles that have come out recently in Penthouse, Spin and the Village Voice, some have failed to fully represent Dave's spirit, but the fact of their existence is evidence of the amount of lives that Dave has touched.

-Also here are two great DJ mixes of Dave's here to download if you haven't already:

More to come in the new year. Feel free to email me any updates you may have about Dave or thoughts/pics/etc.

Have a good holiday and let's keep what Dave taught us close to heart, you are never too busy for your loved ones.

i remember thinking that Sam Cooke's "Chain Gang" was the saddest and most beautiful song in the world as a kid. I couldn't register it emotionally, nor decipher the subject matter, so it just about short-circuited my little feelings processor.

I later learned that the producers, or maybe it was the label, wanted listeners to think he was white, assuming this would widen his appeal.

Cooke to me is one of the most uncanny voices ever. My dad was more into Motown and Chicago soul so I didn't grow up on him, he has always a mystery to me.

That voice carries about 1,000 years of joy and sorrow in it.

The (silent) response to Kiln's Dusker album has been deafening. Top 10 iTunes, Top 20 eMusic and a plethora of awesome reviews.

In the era of the hype machine, some amazing music can rise to the top with literally no back story or direct marketing.

My favorite quote so far is from an eMusic testimonial:
"reminds me of...(Talk Talk's) Spirit of Eden remixed by Boards of Canada."
_from York, England

I believe that there are a million people who want what we do at any given time.
That if they were given a direct access to the music they would be elated and want to have.

This group can't be fit into a demographic, can't be bought and can't be coerced.

These are the people we want on board.
