This has easily been one of the fastest years ever! I can't believe it's already July.

Lately I've been really feeling compelled to write more wizard rock. We have a handful of songs already written and I've been writing more and more. So, in that spirit, I just put up a demo song we recorded earlier in the year. It probably won't end up as a song on our next album or anything, but it's still a fun, catchy song about dessert. And it's nice to finally put up some new music, since we haven't posted a new song in about a year or 2.

That's our friend Joel singing background vocals too. He did the art for our first CD and both Wizard Rock compilations.

Though we are all remaining pretty busy this summer we're trying to free up some time to record some new songs. So feel free to let us know what you think of this new silly song. And we'll have more stuff up this summer....I'll let you know when. Promise.

Yay!

Life is a hectic, hectic affair sometimes.  It's funny how things can get so busy that a week, a month, half a year pass before you realize just how quickly life flies by sometimes.

We haven't stopped making music, we just haven't recorded anything in a VERY LONG time.  The truth is, none of us live very close to one another now, which makes getting together so much tougher.  But this is not the end.  We're hoping to still release some songs on Myspace at some point this year (maybe around a certain holiday? Maybe a winter holiday? Maybe a holiday in December? Ok, maybe I'm saying Christmas)

There is definitely quite a handful of songs that have been written that we're quite proud of..the issue is being able to record them together.  And that may not happen for a few more months.  But WE ARE ALIVE and we still try to stay as active as possible on Myspace.  So feel free to say hello or make us feel guilty for not releasing any songs or doing any shows this year :)

Admittedly there isn't any brand new news, but I felt it was necessary to at least update everyone. Thanks for continuing to listen!

So...if you haven't heard the news, we are going to be playing at Wrockstock next year!!!

This is some exciting news for us and we really are looking forward to playing live in front of such an awesome crowd of Wrock fans.  And since most people haven't exactly heard of us yet, we plan on performing the show of a lifetime.

We're hoping to have CD2 out in time for Wrockstock and be able to debut some new songs (as well as some of our old ones, which have already been slightly reworked). We've been working hard writing new material and we're hoping we'll actually be able to record it soon.  But we'll see I suppose...

So, as this year closes and a new one begins, look for new songs, new videos, new stuff.  We're hoping to become more active in the following months and unleash some fun new Wizard Rock. See you soon!

So we've been hard at work the past few months on....well, nothing, really. At least nothing Wizard-Rock related. But things are hopefully going to change in the coming weeks.  And hopefully we can start working on Album 2, as well as announce a show or 2 next year. But more on that in a later blog.

First and foremost, we contributed a song to the Wizard Rock Compilation being put out by The Chinese Chomping Cabbages called 'Wrocking on the Borderline,' which features a ton of songs from a ton of awesome wizard rock bands. And the proceeds will be donated to charity!! To get a copy (which features our song Magical Me 2...which is exclusive to this CD), go here

For people that still wanted to pick up One More Peaceful Day, I just set up a link to purchase it, here  It should cost just a bit more than $11.  And, as always, proceeds are going to First Book.  Speaking of which...

It's about time we collected all of the money we've stowed away from the proceeds of both An Enchanted Christmas and One More Peaceful Day.  Last year we made over $100 from An Enchanted Christmas, this year we've made around $150 and counting. Thank-you to everyone that's ordered a copy so far!

So, we've decided it's just about time to donate the money we've been saving. To provide a little incentive for anyone still on the fence about picking up a copy, and--since it's the holidays and we're feeling generous...

Buy An Enchanted Christmas, Get Wizard Rock Cake for Free!!!!
(From Now Until January 31st)

If you order An Enchanted Christmas through our Myspace page, we'll also ship it out with a copy of our first CD...so you're getting both CDs, shipped, for only $10!  And the money is going to a good cause.

The master plan is to hopefully sell a handful more CDs between now and the end of January and then donate everything in the beginning of February.

Oh, also, we decided to lower the price of Wizard Rock Cake to $5 in the U.S. and Canada. It's still only $7 everywhere else!

So......hopefully everybody is having a not-too-hectic-December.  We have BIG plans next year and can't wait for everyone to see them.  And, who knows...if the inspiration strikes (read: if we stop being lazy and record), there might be a new song before christmas...

Happy holidays everyone!

As a disclaimer, if you haven't finished Deathly Hallows, this blog might ruin some of it.

I know most of this is mega-late, but-finally-here it is; a recap of our amazing Harry Potter summer!

The summer started off with our very first live show ever--The Wizrockfest in Anaheim.

The weeks leading up to the event were pretty stressful. I mean, moreso than they should have been.  Basically from the moment I (Josh) got home from college, we began rehearsing. Unfortunately we only had a 3 week period to practice all of our songs.  About a week or so before the show, we began recording our first real CD, Wizard Rock Cake.

Yes, those are pins from Roonil Wazlib, The Whomping Willows and The Wizrocklopedia

Literally, we put the finishing touches on the CD the night before we left. If we had more time, we would have tried to include more songs, I just didn't think we'd be able to put out the best quality recordings of some of the songs. So, a few songs will have to wait until Album 2.  The song I was saddest to see not make the cut was Caves are for Lovers, which was one of my favorite ideas for a song.  Basically it's about the way caves are misrepresented in books (especially HBP); they're not dark and sinister, they're more like a good place for a picnic. Another song that definitely will make it onto the next album is Waking Up, which is written from Harry's point of view the morning after book 6 ends. I think the lyrics were posted on a blog more than a year ago and it's still one of my favorite songs, lyrically. A Toast is the type of song I'd love to close the next album with. It uses similar chords to Wizard Rock Cake (though both songs sound nothing alike) and I'm hoping we can finally record it the way I envision it sounding like. Also, Flashes of Red & Gold is our acoustic love-ballad-of-fury. We even recorded the song at one point, but I couldn't nail the vocals. I'm hoping we can redo it and make it rock someday.

We drove about 8 hours the night before to the L.A. area. I specifically remember going through the setlist in my head as I tried to go to sleep and unconsciously kicking my feet to the beat of the songs. I did this so much, that I actually woke poor Gabe up at least 3 or 4 times.

So the next morning we gathered our stuff, put on our ties and whatnot and headed over to the library. We showed up about 2 hours before the show started, so we could do soundcheck, meet everyone, etc...

When we arrived, there were only 3 or 4 people, from 13 Grimmauld Place (the awesome group that put the show on).  This was the first time I recall ever introducing myself with "Hi, I'm Josh from the Bandon Banshees." It still seems weird to do so.

Nevertheless, we began to set up our equipment as we waited for people and equipment to show up. And it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to get the worst sunburn of the summer.  If only we had brought sunscreen...

As people and bands (OK, mostly bands) began to trickle in, I remember almost feeling starstruck, to some degree.  Here I was, amongst dozens of people I had only known from Myspace and emails, about to help put on a Wrock show. It's a strange feeling.

Gabe, Jon of Sue & the Hufflepuffs, Josh

The Hermione Crookshanks Experience was the first band to perform and Kristine put on a very entertaining show. Her kazoo solo was a highlight. She even debuted some songs off her new CD, which I'm sure you already own. If not, what are you waiting for? It's awesometastic.

Then a Couple of Harrys performed. They were selling some really cool posters, too, but took off before we could buy one.

Finally, we took to the stage and performed our songs for the first time live (we hadn't even really performed these songs in front of our friends at this point!)

Bobby, of Dumbledore's Army (who definitely deserves the award for nicest person in the history of Wizard Rock) lent us his acoustic guitar and we closed our set with Magical Me, the first song wizard rock song we ever wrote. For the heck of it we even added a solo towards the end, and I got to play the drums, which was a blast.

After our set, Dumbledore's Army rocked the house. Bobby really has great stage presence and put on a very entertaining show. We even got sing the "whoa-oh!"  parts on 'The Marauders Aren't Alright'.' Forgetting the song, I continued to stay on stage when there was no "whoa-oh's" left in the song. There's a short Youtube clip somewhere out there with me adding a whoa-oh, realizing it doesn't belong in the song, then leaving the stage.

After a short break, Sue & the Hufflepuffs took the stage. This was one of the highlights of the show for me, especially the multi-multi instrument Like a Snitch.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

After Sue & the Hufflepuffs, Jace of Catchlove and Talons & Tea Leaves fame (have you caught the Prophecy video of T&TL and Marked as His Equal playing together? It's awesome!!) performed, even duetting with Alex of The Remus Lupins on Kelly Clarkson's (the witch, not the muggle) Since You've Been Gone. In the words of Will Ferrell as James Lipton 'it was like looking into the face of God and him saying 'you are my most beautiful and wondrous creation' "

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

After Jace's set, Logan Zon Acoustic performed. I remember thinking 'this isn't really wizard rock, this is more, like, ninja-rock or something. We watched from our makeshift merch table and got the chance to talk with a bunch of really awesome people.

My only regret is that we didn't really stick around our booth selling CDs very often. So, sorry if someone tried to buy a CD and we weren't around. I would've just taken one! ;)

The last band was The Remus Lupins.  I couldn't help but notice that the crowd at least tripled by the time Alex hit the stage. I personally was very excited to see a Remus Lupins show. We went to a Good Cheer/ Remus Lupins show last year, which must've started early, and only caught the last few songs of The Remus Lupins set. So this was out first full show.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
See if you can spot all of the Wizard Rock bands and personalities. I see Jace, Devin of the Owl Post, Jon of Sue & the Hufflepuffs, Kristine of tHCE, Mark of Marked as His Equal, Dinah, AKA WizRockLove-The next Squib Girl, Kelly of ECP and Alex of tRL, of course. And I'm in there somewhere.

Needless to say, Alex put on a great show, especially considering he hadn't slept in, like, 19 weeks.

Afterwards we stuck around and took a bunch of pictures. After finally getting everyone organized we took a photo with all of the bands that were still around. Since we took so many pictures, many of us couldn't help but notice that Alex of The Remus Lupins was probably the love of our lives, instantly creating the first 9  person ship, Aljadenimarkrisjonaboshby.

Here's a picture of us with Kelly of Enchanted Ceiling Productions. She made our awesome logo and in return we stole this picture from her profile:

After a few weeks of summer goodness, we saw Harry & the Potters perform in Sacramento. Unlike last year, where a few hundred of us packed into a small library meeting room, this show was completely crowded. I don't even think this picture gives a good impression of how many people showed up--it was astounding to me.

<br>And I'm still amazed that Harry and the Potters (and everyone else in the Wizard Rock community, as far as I know) is completely doing everthing themselves, without any major record labels or promoters. It's amazing to see how far wizard rock has gone just in this last year alone.

The following week we waited in line at midnight for the Order of the Phoenix movie premiere.  Regardless of what many people say, I really enjoyed this one. I go into the movies with the mindset that every scene I've ever enjoyed will be cut out and at least one of the characters will be more mustachioed than I imagined (Lupin).

Then, about 2 weeks later, the greatest moment in the history of the world occured; the Deathly Hallows book release! I don't think I can sum up in words how awesome the experience of the book was. I had to reread it a second time just to take in what I had missed (I read some parts so fast that I don't recall half of what happened--particularly the Hogwarts battle).

Overall, it was a fantastic way to finish a fantastic series. I have no complaints. (OK,OK, I have one; how did Ron and Hermione get out of the Chamber of Secrets towards the end, when they were retrieving the Basilisk's fang?)

The midnight release

For the release, a bunch of us got together and dressed up. I made sure to sport my Wizard Rock pins, including a Sue & the Hufflepuffs, Wizrocklopedia, Whomping Willows, and Roonil Wazlib pin. And I even won a hat in a Harry Potter trivia contest!

Throughout this summer I've also been organizing One More Peaceful Day, the summer WizRock compilation that 's been delayed about 1000 (or 2) times. Extra special thanks goes to Squib Girl, for being a Wizard Rock instigator and sparking the idea for this CD earlier this year.

Just over a week after the the book release, we played at a Harry Potter party with Dungbombs Rock!, put on by the world-famous Dinah

Dungbombs Rock! performing

If our show in Anaheim rocked people's socks off, then, at this show, we just asked people to gently remove their socks. In other words, we made quite a few mistakes. But the Save Ginny Weasley duet that I sang with Chris of Dungbombs Rock! was a blast to play. I turned into Phil Collins for a few minutes, trying to drum and sing at the same time.  It would've worked great, if only the microphone stand didn't keep moving.

Needless to say, it was great to see so many Harry Potter fans under one roof.  And the party was an absolute blast. We even fit in a game of HP:Scene It. And free candy always rocks.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Which pretty much takes us up to tonight. Tomorrow we leave for a mini-road-trip to see The Whomping Willows and The Parselmouths perform. Slowly, but surely, I'm catching all of my favorite wizard rock bands on tour. And this will be a perfect close to an amazing summer.

For the rest of the year, we're hoping to be involved in a West Coast Yule Ball and we're also slowly beginning to work on Album 2. What better time to write music than a rainy fall day? We have a few songs already written and a few more we've started that sound pretty great so far. Hopefully we can start recording something in the next few weeks to put up on the profile.

Well, it's been an amazing summer. Thank-you to everyone that came out and saw us perform, thank-you to all of our friends that have helped us put together the various CDs and shows this year. And thank-you for reading this very long blog.

I'm willing to bet a lot of you are wondering 'where the heck is my summer cd?'

Well...

We ordered a bunch of CDs and the manufacturer sent them our way.  Unfortunately, the inside liner notes were missing and some strange printing lines appeared on the cover and back.

We contacted customer service and they said they'd review the problem.  After a couple of days, they've agreed to send us the CDs, fixed.  Unfortunately it will take another 2 weeks.  So, we've decided to ship out the messed up CDs this Monday.  Then, in about a week and a half to two weeks, we'll ship out the fixed CDs to you as well.  That way you can still enjoy the compilation and an improved version will follow it shortly. Plus, you won't have to keep waiting and waiting.

I hope this is OK with everybody.  We are REALLY sorry for the inconvenience and the CDs being so late.  At this rate summer might just end before the CDs are in your hands.  :)

In all seriousness, though, Thank-you to everybody that has purchased this compilation.  It's awesome that we're actually raising money and it's also great to be able to continue getting great wizard rock tunes from so many bands.  Thank-you.

Current mood:  tired
Hello friends, fans, blog-readers and that one guy that accidentally clicked on this blog and for some reason came back to read another.

So July flew by in a blur and August is now here for some reason. The good news is that fall is getting closer. Is it just me or is that time from September to December the absolute greatest time to be alive? Maybe it's just me...

On the 31st we celebrated JK Rowling and Harry Potter's birthday in Chico by partying with a bunch of other awesome Harry Potter fans. We also played a show with Dungbombs Rock.  (If Pink Floyd started a Wizard Rock band, they'd make songs like Mister Minister). Me and Chris from Dungbombs Rock even duetted on Save Ginny Weasley while waiting for our friends to arrive (well, I tried to pull a "Phil Collins," by trying to drum and sing--meaning trying to drum and keep the microphone in one place to avoid feedback). And our set...well, let's just say the combination of a different drummer and a few new songs would have destroyed lesser mortals. :)

Actually, it was a lot of fun to play, even though all 3 of us sort of messed up a ton. Oh well, you learn from your mistakes...

This week I am officially ready to start writing book 7 material for Album 2. The goal for Album 2 is to make much longer songs and implement a full band for every song--guitars, bass, real drums, keys, etc... I already have some fun non-book-specific songs written, but it's finally time to write some Deathly Hallows material. I can't wait...

And I know I promised this a few weeks ago, but here's the final tracklisting for the Summer Compilation, One More Peaceful Day, featuring unreleased songs from Hollow Godric, The Remus Lupins, The Mudbloods, Romilda Vane & the Chocolate Cauldrons and a ton more. And, as if I haven't said it enough, all proceeds go to First Book...and it only costs $10 shipped! (or $12 if you live outside North America). Anyways, here is the tracklisting:

1. Hollow Godric - Glimmers
2. The Weasel King - Follow the Red Sparks
3. Bella's Love - Angsty Wizard Summer
4. Oliver Boyd & the Remembralls - One Last Summer
5. The Mudbloods - Melted Ice Cream, Ultra-Violet Radiation, and Other Things I Hate About Summer
6. The Bandon Banshees - This Song is a Horcrux
7. Ministry of Magic Feat. The Parselmouths - Snape Vs. Snape
8. The Knockturn Alley Project - Weasleycore
9. Cruciatus Curse - What If?
10. Severely Snaped - Summer of Love
11. Shorthand Phonetics - Magic is Away For the Season
12. Voldemort & The Sectumsempras - Imperio/Under Control
13. Tom Riddle & Friends - Fleur, Mon Ami
14. Dungbombs Rock - Man, That was Dumb
15. Gred & Forge - Ginny Gets Around
16. Dumbledore's Army - The Going Back to Privet Drive Blues
17. Romilda Vane & the Chocolate Cauldrons - Believe
18. Marked As His Equal - Run Free
19. The Remus Lupins - Rock The Hogwarts Grounds

And, just for the heck of it, here is The Bandon Banshee's Fan of the Year, Dinah Saur!

For putting on the best Harry Potter party we've ever attended and knowing someone that knows how to make awesome butterbeer, and amazing sherbert punch, and for letting us play in her backyard, and spreading massive amounts of wizard rock knowledge throughout the world, and for having great party bags and about a thousand other things.

I hope everyone is having an awesome summer so far (and with so much HP madness, how could you not?). As we move into fall, expect lots more Wizard Rock goodness from us. I think you'll  be surprised by the sound of what's to come. It's a very exciting time.  The book series may be finished (for now), but there is still lots more to look forward to. And we're nowhere near the end...

With less than 4 days until Deathly Hallows I think it's time we all hide in a cave to avoid spoilers! Nonetheless, enjoy the last few days of speculation and guessing. In a few days, we'll all find out who lives, who dies, where everybody's loyalties lie and if Voldemort can finally be destroyed. It's been a great summer so far, lets keep the wrock alive long after the series is finished.

As neat as it was to have 5 songs on our profile, we realized it meant none of our songs were downloadable (it seems like Myspace could fix this quite easily). So it's back to 4 songs, but you can download them...and 3 of them are from our new CD, Wizard Rock Cake, which is still out and still only $7 shipped to anywhere in the world! Yay!

Preorders for the summer compilation we're putting out will start this Tuesday on our Myspace page. We're planning on shipping it on Sunday, August 5th, if all goes to plan.

Also, if anyone lives near Chico, California, we're playing at a Harry Potter party on July 31st and you're absolutely welcome to come party with us. Just send us a message and we'd love to give you the info.

There's less than a week until book 7 is out. As much as I'm ready for some answers, I can't believe there may never be any more Harry Potter books written. Luckily we still have a lot to look forward to; 2 more movies, a theme park, and--hopefully---lots of wizard rock. Have a great July!

If you haven't heard yet, we've finally named the summer compilation, as well as finalized the cover art (drawn by our good friend Joel, who did the cover for the Christmas CD as well). The compilation is callled One More Peaceful Day, a name inspired by the final words of book 6.

Preorders will begin, hopefully, before the end of the month; we expect to release the compilation within the first 2 weeks of July.  So hopefully we can deliver all the CDs between movie 5 and book 7.  So stay tuned and we'll update you on it.
