................
Dear friends,....
....
It's a strange day when you come on here to say your
farewells, but alas here we are. With no intention of writing
some kind of long eulogy to ourselves or anything of the sort, we did, however,
all feel that what we achieved as The Dagger Lees (nee Stagger Lee) was
deserving of a proper and final end and so a few words is at least fitting.....
The past 3 years have been one hell of a ride! From all the usual madness of
being in a band and working and living with both of our lady
rockers raising mini rockers at the same time, plus touring with some
great bands, recording music we loved, writing, playing, falling down,
getting up again..and lovin' every minute of it! Life has thrown many
curveballs our way, and more than once we survived them, dusted ourselves off
and got back to work. The past couple of months though have thrown some sad aul
curveballs that have meant that the band couldn't continue in its current form,
and as much as that pains us, our date with the Diamond will have to wait
another day.....
....
All good things come to an end, and so to everyone who
was involved with us in anyway - a sincere thank you! Much love
must go to Robbie Thing, Leo Pearson, Benjo, Davey, Jessie, Susie,
Dan Beatnik, Andy Motorsounds, Loreana, Paul, Jason, Kelley, Mandy, Una,
Warren, Karl, James, Niamh, Sinead, Edel, all the Phantom Family and
especially to the mini Lees - Dylan and Steven. And to our families for all
their support and everyone who came to a gig, hummed a tune, had a dance, wrote
about us, helped out with shows, took a picture, bought a song - a really big
and very sincere THANK YOU from all of us.....
Each of us can look back on the dedication, love, blood, sweat and tears we put
in to making Stagger Lee/The Dagger Lees, something we are
really proud of. We can happily say that we still love the bones of each other
and there’s not many bands can say that! We're all moving to pastures new (the
first of which to look out for is Benni’s solo project Hathor Vein!!).... so we'll see you in the next lifetime.
Lots of love, ....
.. ..
Donna and The Dagger Lees....

So we had a fab time at HWCH this year. Checked out some deadly sets in particular by Dublins Sickboy and Fangs from Scotland. Got some good reviews ourselves which was nice! See below.
These are the last gigs of the next while as we will be doing some prep work for recording the album in the US in early - mid 2009. We do plan however to showcase some the new material before the end of the year on a national stint of gigs so keep your eyes on the prize for more news on that over the coming weeks n months.
Also - get downloading the new exclusive 'Stagger Stomp' track which is only available on-line - and in radio stations to from this week onwards so get requesting!
Catch ya on the flip side!

The Dagger Lees looked fantastic on the stage of the basement room that housed the HWCH gigs in The Academy. A foxy frontwoman in red, and a bassist who magnificently pulled off a leather skirt and red heels stood beside a shirtless drummer and a lead guitarist who looked like the lovechild of Adrian Brody and Win Butler. And they didn't sound half bad, either. Donna McCabe's commanding vocals were a stark reminder of the difference it makes to a performance to really be able to sing. Though the stage was mostly obscured by black pillars and tall men, with great electric blues guitar and attitude pouring off the stage in streams, The Dagger Lees turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises of the festival, even if the crowd were the sort of people who were too busy holding their drinks to bother with applause.

It was then a bit of a trek to Academy 2 to catch as much as possible of The Dagger Lees. The former Stagger Lee have survived a name and line-up change (drumming duties now fall to the excellent Terry Cullen, frontman of Dae Kim) and have become tighter and s exier than ever in the process. The slower, harder and grimier version of 'Bad Shoes' is a real revelation tonight and the newer material growls with fresh, seedy confidence.

Irish rock'n'roll noir four piece announce name change & the recording of their debut album with legendary Detroit producer Jim Diamond of White Stripes, Von Bondies & Electric Six fame. This female fronted, blues screaming, white-hot soul racket began life in Dublin in 2006 as Stagger Lee, and made waves in 2007 with the release of their debut single 'Bad Shoes' on their own label, Split Lip Records. The single reached no. 5 on Ireland's indie chart. And so, in a storming sea of change, the Dagger Lees are born! In embracing the new name, the Dagger Lees look forward to spending the summer writing and pre-producing their album. To celebrate they will release a free download-only single next month through their MySpace site so stay tuned for that! The Dagger Lees are also delighted to announce the inclusion of their track 'Scarlet Fever' on the forthcoming US film release by punk rock film company Vivid Alt. They've made several TV appearances on Irish television already this year and the video accompanying their debut single in 2007 has had over 68,000 Youtube views, as well as being short-listed in the London Portobello film festival. Having recently kicked out the jams at the fantastic Glasgowbury festival in Derry, they are delighted to have been invited back to play the beautiful Speigeltent in Dublin in September 2008 as well as the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival! What I can tell you is that we plan for it to be a 4-track EP that will be available on Vinyl and CD and download and will hopefully be ready for you lovelies by the end of the summer with a download single preceeding its release in June / July.
