RECENT REVIEWS:
"It
goes to show all those desperately commercial bands that you can come up with
something catchy and still be effortlessly cool." Read the full review here.
"The song is pretty vintage indie, loud guitars and a frantic drum beat with
piercing vocals complete with British accent. It has a pretty classic sound,
from a time where men were men, women were women and Indie was a standalone
genre before bands were thrown onto the indie pile that no one seemed to be
able to categorise." Read the full review here.
"‘lover,
killer’ is so damn fecking catchy it ought to come accompanied by a course of
jabs." Read the full review here.
"sometimes
all you need is a three minute burst of handclappy pop utilising the word
oxymoron." Read the full review here.
"Lover,
Killer is a wonderfully boisterous affair that opens with a massive riff
quickly followed by a barrage of drums and a huge hook=laden chorus that'll
have the casual skinny jean wearing indie rock fan frothing at the mouth whilst
trying to contain the spasms in their feet. " Read the full review here.
"their
joyous expressions and harmonies that truly lighten your mood, but this time
with a roughed up, dare i say it, dirty pretty things styled delivery –
slamming guitars guys! Single of the month" Read the full review here.
I'm sure you've all seen the video to "Lover, Killer" by now, but have you seen the new video to "Headlock" made by my brother Terry?!
THE ALBUM. Yes, it's happening! Dear all, Still fresh from the excitement of Bill Hicks getting to no.6 in the UK Indie Charts, we'd like to let you know that we'll be releasing a third single on our own label in July. It was the title track to a now long since sold-out debut EP, and has been a favourite of ours for a long time. The only clue I'm going to give to as to the title is...... We re-recorded the track this year at Eastcote Studios, and it was mixed by Sam Williams, and mastered by John Davis. As the photo suggests, we've also just finished filming the brand new music video in Brighton, at the Grand Hotel and at on the seafront. Again, we worked with the fantastic Gavin Fry and Zoe Beck and their team, who produced our the video to Bill Hicks. Check out the rest of the behind the scenes photos here, and leave a comment or two! You can hear a brand new acoustic version of " Lover, Killer" below, filmed for " The Fly" magazine's " Courtyard Sessions" (they've mistakenly called it "Love a killer"...which we'd never want to do now, would we?!) The Fly TV on MUZU. Also recorded was another possible future single, " No Reply"....... The Fly TV on MUZU. Another HUGE UK tour is now being booked for June and July - as always, let us know if you'd like us to play in your town, and we'll do our best to make it happen. About half the new dates are already up on our myspace, so do look now to see if we're in your area. One for your London diaries in particular is our BRITBUS SHOWCASE gig at The Islington Academy on Wednesday 17th June. We're shortlisted to be on this tour which will visit America, India and Australia initially. It's going to be a fantastic night rammed with press and special guests, so make a note of the date now.
Don't forget you can also join us on FACEBOOK, as well as BEBO and LAST FM and now just to waste even MORE of what little free time I have, TWITTER.Thanks to Heather from Prototype Photography for sending me this very funny cartoon video about Twitter! It's well worth watching! When we're not on tour, Jonno and I DJ at the Notting Hill Arts Club Monday nights for Alan McGee's " Authentic" Club - last week Alan interviewed ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead, and tomorrow (27th) at 9pm will be interviewing The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things drummer Gary Powell, live from 9pm. It's FREE entry too, so come on down and say hello. We'll be redesigning our myspace soon, and are thinking of a brighter, more summery feel....colour and design suggestions?! Don't forget to subscribe to this blog....lots of rather interesting news is on it's way... Much love, Nigel. The Foxes.
P.S. I can't believe there's going to be a Jade Goody musical. Can't everyone just let her rest in peace now? Some acts honestly justify sterilization, for the sake of mankind's future. P.P.S. if you'd like to help us out and get FREE stuff from The Foxes, join our street team by clicking here now!

Our special love thanks go to Mary, Steve and Lynn Hicks for their kindness and support from the start, which has meant so much to us.
 Bill's brother, Steve and Nigel.
Thanks also to EVERYONE who's supported us by coming to gigs on the tour, or who have bought a copy of the single. As with Trauma Town, this release has been entirely funded by ourselves, and released on our own label through working hard, and doing cover gigs and weddings to pay for it - well worth it for doing something we love!
If you haven't already bought a copy of the single, or the B-side "Come and Get You" - you can get your vinyl from most independent record shops, and the larger HMV stores (i.e. Oxford Street etc) or....

Don't forget to check out the music video here too! If you're still not sure, have a look at a few of the most recent reviews:
PEOPLE WHO LOVE US.
"The Foxes have struck gold once again with this hook-laden, rock track." Entertainment Focus - full review here.
"Unlike most indie rock bands The Foxes don’t play music they think the public want to hear, they play music they want to play. The end result is fantastic..." Tasty Fanzine - full review here.
"Pummelling brainwashing drums, an insistent stabbing guitar riff and several 'heys' all make for an exhilarating, uplifting listen. No wonder it's endorsed by Bill Hicks' family." Repeat Online - full review here.
"...you can hear that impassioned, visceral energy in the song; it’s fast-paced, relentless and downright fantastic..." Noize Makes Enemies -full review here.
More reviews for the single, and live performances can be found here : http://www.thefoxesband.co.uk/press.php
PEOPLE WHO HATE US.
I feel it's also worth mentioning that there are some people who absolutely HATE our single and the video, one or two even wishing death upon us - which is quite a strange reaction from people who tell us they're Bill Hicks fans, and his was a message of peace and love (unless you're in marketing or advertising of course).
You can read some of these seriously opposed viewpoints on our Youtube. It's amazing how much ANGER can be generated from an independent band self-releasing a tribute to a comedian whom we much admire, or how many people seem to know exactly what Bill would have thought of our song. These same people seem to miss almost every reference to Bill's life and work, both in the lyrics and the video. As Bill said "Shut up and smoke this!" to which the reply is "Woah, thanks buddy! For a moment there I was taking life too seriously!"
"Bill Hicks" is a tribute made with love to a man we much admire, respect and miss. Anyone who can't accept this has our sympathies.
Let me know what you think of all of this, and do subscribe to this blog to keep you updated...especially with all the news we've got coming next month....shhh....new single....shhh....big non-uk tour?.......
Oh, and do follow us on TWITTER if you're that way inclined! (sorry Spider, had to be done!)

Hooray for the snow! Here's the view from my garden tonight:

But it's not ALL good - tonight's showcase at Filthy McNasty's has had to be cancelled, along with our Bristol show at The Cooler on Wednesday. However, both these gigs will be rescheduled and the new dates announced shortly. We still have over 30 dates on the UK tour, so do check now on our myspace to see where we're playing near you (click on the gig for full details).
It's just over 40 days and 40 night's 'till the release of our second single, "Bill Hicks" - and we're working hard to beat our no.9 position in the Official UK Indie Charts with "Trauma Town" - you can help us get there by pre-ordering the download now from play.com - just click here. CD and Vinyl pre-order will also be available soon.
We've already had some great airplay on Kerrang! Radio last Saturday courtesy of the lovely Emma Scott (click here to listen - select "RAW" from the recommended shows, and we're 2hrs 54 mins in). The good folks at BBC Radio Bristol have also played "Bill Hicks" and the b-side, "Come and Get You" (click here to listen - we're 55 minutes in. Thanks Rich and Gary).
We've also had some fantastic single reviews in for Bill Hicks -
adriandenning.co.uk - (Single of the Week)
"Wow, these guys have a real swagger about them. The Foxes for those that need to know are a four piece who have been filling venues and drawing plenty of acclaim for their music wherever they've been in their short career so far. The Foxes sound accomplished yet have loads of energy, 'Bill Hicks' for instance opens with urgent drums, a spiralling speedy guitar riff soon joined by a 2nd guitar, and this guitar sound is absolutely great..." (full review here). subba-cultcha.com.
"...one hell of a single..." (full review here). losingtoday.com.
" 'Bill Hicks' kicks furiously amid a sweat haze of jagged hip hugging riffage and bistered soul moves, like some emotionally starved upstart it snarls, spits and rages with an impetuous ferocity leaving scar marks on the turntable which in our gaff is a much welcomed past-time...." (full review here). toxicpete.co.uk
"Bill Hicks is the latest release from the energetic and beaty The Foxes; a boldy punchy work that's rammed to overflowin' with rockin' riffs, and pop sensitive catchability..." (full review here) inthenews.co.uk.
" Powerhouse vocals and rip roaring guitars smash you around the head like a brick wrapped in barbed wire. And the band have been praised by Bill Hicks' brother Steve, who said "I love your music - and I'm sure Bill wold have done too" (full review here).
Well, I'm off now to slide down the hill in an oven pan to get a bottle of good red wine to wile away my guitar playing evening. Let me know if you've had trouble or fun with the snow too...or indeed, if you've never seen snow before and would like to learn more.
See you on the Bill Hicks tour! We'll be doing regular video and photo blogs on our Royal Artist Club website, which you can check out here. Much love,
Nigel.

Hello one and all,
Unbelievably, this is my first blog of the year - to celebrate this, and life in general, I've just put up a new live track, "No Reply" recorded this month on the lovely Sue Marchant's BBC Radio show. Do let me know what you think!
Special thanks to Paul at FMS Promotions for the fantastic "Teenage Kicks" charity gig we played at The Cambridge Corn Exchange...here's a little clip on our Royal Artist Club blog page, which I filmed from the stage:
The Foxes
Thanks to EVERYONE who came or contributed to the night. Some life footage from this gig will be coming soon...so subscribe to this blog now to be first to hear.
Since the new year dawned, we've been very busy rehearsing a terrific batch of songs for the"Bill Hicks" tour - which starts in February - have a look now to see if we're playing near you, and you'll find full details on the gig by clicking it. Tickets for every show will be on Ticketweb, and it's always best to buy in advance. We've one or two more shows to announce...are we missing anywhere?!
I'd like to particularly mention our very special acoustic gig at Filthy McNasty's on Monday 2nd February - expect some very different arrangements, new songs, and one or two surprises! Tickets will be on sale soon, and will be VERY limited.
We've also got a limited number of FREE GUEST LIST places (normal entry is £7) for our performance at Alan McGee's "Queen is Dead" club night at The Borderline (near Oxford Street) on Friday 30th February. Email info@thefoxesband.co.uk with the names, and it's first come first served.
We've had a lot of very positive reactions to the new track, Bill Hicks, and the new video. We've also had some people who don't like the fact we've even called it "Bill Hicks" - which doesn't surprise me considering how much Bill means to a lot of people, and shows again what an influence he's still having. There are some seriously polarised discussions going on our YouTube channel, and an insane loony one on the Bill Hicks Facebook Group. Free speech is a wonderful, entertaining, and sometimes infuriating thing!

(Above - Chloe and Em from the Teenage Kicks gig...I told you we'd put it up! Love those t-shirts...the new ones are on the way)
We've had a couple of interesting pieces of press - there's a two page interview with yours truly in the latest edition of Performing Musician magazine...avaiable at WHSmiths (and other good stores), and a much more brief interview here on Obscure Internet.
Our STREET TEAM is now set up - if you want to help out at gigs, and do some flyering etc for us in exchange for free goodies, just sign up here.Go on....
And don't forget that you can download the exclusive track, "Friday Night" by simply signing up to our mailing list (on our myspace and main website) or just by texting "FOXES" followed by your name and email address to 60300. It's not a subscription service, and you won't receive any other texts or pay anything apart from the cost of the text.
Finally, Jonno and I are currenly doing a regular DJ set every Monday night at Alan McGee's free club night "AUTHENTIC" - at Punk, which is just off Oxford Street (address and map here). Doors are at 9pm, there's a great atmosphere (and drinks offers!), so come down and say hello....you never know who you'll bump into.
I'd love some suggestions for tracks which you'd like to hear at a club, but which never usually get played...let me have your thoughts below, and I'll let you know if I play them. Last week's favourite was "Horse with No Name" by America.
Hope this missive finds you well, and everyone in the world cheers up. Go see a sunrise.
Much love,
Nigel.
The Foxes.
This blog was written to the sound of Graham Coxon's last album, "Happiness in Magazines"
P.S. - have a look at our Facebook and Bebo groups.
P.P.S. I hope you like our Myspace revamp and design - all kindly done by my brother Ian. He does all kind of web design, so get in touch.

Dear one and all, With all the excitement of Trauma Town reaching no.9 in the UK Indie Charts now passing, we've been busy focusing on the next single, Bill Hicks. Before I go into that, check out a few of the latest Trauma Town straggler reviews: "It seems a pity that The Foxes are not to keen on taking the bus, because their energetic Pop habit is really going to take them places." Read the full review from Audio Tart here. "...the strong beat of the song with easy to follow lyrics should make them a dead cert for success." Read the full review from The Beat Surrender here. "...The Foxes are a London based quartet who blend catchy as f**k melodies with a disarming and devilishly acute shanty like ska-tastic laced melodic throb..."Read the full review from Losing Today here. Seriously, you need to read this one! If you haven't bought a copy of Trauma Town yet, you can download from iTunes, play.com etc, or feel the smooth vinyl in your hands from HMV.com and local retailers. We've some great t-shirts and other merch on our online store here too - check it out. "BILL HICKS" - THE NEW SINGLE. "Bill Hicks" and b-side "Come and Get You" will be released on Monday 16th March, on download, 7inch Vinyl and, unlike our début, also on CD.

We've finished most of the filming for the new music video to go with the release - you can see a couple of backstage videos on our "Royal Artist Club" video blog here. There are some new photos also up from the video shoot on our photos page. While our list of forthcoming gigs currently looks as bare as Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard, January 5th 2009 will see it jam packed with shows as we announce our February/March UK tour to support the single release - we'll be playing all over the country, and it's not too late to get us to play in your town, just let us know. If you're feeling really naughty, you can actually have a sneaky listen to the new single now, as it's already had it's first UK radio airplay on BBC Radio Bristol last Sunday. Simply click on "Listen Sunday's Show" on the BBC Bristol website, and it's the first track played. I think this only works in the UK, so apologies to the rest of the world! If you don't know who Bill Hicks was, read about him on Wikipedia here, then look him up on You Tube. This is what we listened to before recording the track, and is probably why we got it in one take - have a look. In other news..... I recently did a live acoustic session and interview on French speaking station www.connexion.fm, and you can download the full hour long show by clicking this link. If you can read French, there's a review of the show here too. You can also listen live online to our 209 Radio show on Wednesday 3rd December, from 9pm. Here's the link. One last thing.....
....and to clear up some frequent confusion - we manage ourselves and set up the label "Room 10 Records" ourselves to release our music on. In fact, the four of us do everything ourselves, from the music to the single sleeve designs. It's not that we're stubborn control freaks, it's just that we haven't had the right offers yet, and don't feel the need to rush into anything. With that in mind, thank you to everyone who has supported us by coming to gigs and buying our music - it means more to us than you'd think. 2009 is going to be a great year for us - we can't wait to get started. Much love, Nigel. The Foxes.
P.S. we're also featured in Issue 21 of "Art and Soul" magazine - you can read the magazine online by following this link. We're on page 10.
