Yes, 'tis true, as of the 5/11/09, the Music Box wireless programme comes to an end, I announce with regret. The salient details of it's demise I will save for a future entry, but save those tears, dear MySpacers, as a new show is coming soon, to an actual radio or computer very, very soon. As one door closes and all of that.

And to celebrate this news, after 3 years of empty promises, here is my penultimate show for you to download or listen to via the player...

Enjoy, and watch the skies for new show news.

Bless you all.

Last year it was wasps, this year we've upgraded to bees!
The studios we use to do the programme has been infested by bees. Unlike last year, where we could destroy the wasps, but thanks to Bill bloody Oddie, we cannot do the same with bees. Therefore, all shows have been postponed until approximately end of August! Simon and myself apologise to our listener.

In good news though, I have converted some of our recent radio shows to mp3, and will be uploading them here very soon! 'citing times.

This show was borne out a discovery that not only do Simon and myself share a passion for the modern beats, we also have a love, nay obsession with Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, and a challenge set by my cohort to play a clip of Oz, played by Jimmy Nail singing the Merle Haggard song "I Can't Be Myself" in the episode "Cowboys" from series 2. Never one to not grasp a gauntlet when one is dropped, I located said clip and it features in this playlist. The show was technically, 'shambolic', but enjoyable to do. We hope that, whoever may have been listening, thought so too.

1. Breakin' Away - Joe Fagin.
2. Sexuality - Billy Bragg
3. Three Of A Kind: Northern Soul - 1. Agent 00Soul - Edwin Starr
Connect Four: Part One.
4. Build - The Housemartins (1)
5. Bomber - Motorhead (2)
6. I Can't Be Myself - Big Willie Osbourne (AWP Clip)
7. The Fightin' Side Of Me - Merle Haggard
8. Angela - Jarvis Cocker
9. Three Of A Kind: Northern Soul - 2. Landslide - Tony Clarke
Connect Four: Part Two
10. Mama, I'm Coming Home - Ozzy Osbourne (3)
11. Nancy Whiskey - Shane MacGowan (4)
12. Sowing The Seeds Of Love - Tears For Fears
13. Africa - Madness

14. Love Can Move Mountains - The Proclaimers
15. Three Of A Kind: Northern Soul - 3. Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) - Frankie Wilson
16. That's Livin' Alright - Joe Fagin.

(Of course, the astute among you will have noticed that there is no Beatles track in Get Back To The Beatles. This is because, I, err forgot to play it, even though I had the playlist in front of me!)

A few weeks before this show, myself and Simon, did what we described as a 70s tinged show, where, for no reason whatsover played a plethora of classic hits and forgotten gems from the decade that has now become referred to as "the seventies", among the other tunes we played.
We enjoyed it so much, that we hit upon the idea of doing a 100% 70s show, which we did last week 3rd June 2009. It is the first of of occasional specials we'll be doing, on the 1st wednesday of each month.

Here's what we played. Go on admit it, you wish you were there, no?

Thin Lizzy - Dancing In The Moonlight
Steely Dan - Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Three Of A Kind: Suzi Quatro: 1. Can The Can
Racey - Lay Your Love On Me
Connect Four: Part 1
1. M - Pop Muzik 2. Boogie Wonderland
Elton John - Rocket Man

Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground

Three Of A Kind: Quatro-esque: 3. The Race Is On

I'll put up the playlist for the 70s tinged show as and when.

Later me ducks!

Well, not exactly, as it happened a couple of weeks ago, but The Music Box has moved from Mondays to Wednesdays. Not for any exciting reason, just more convenient for me.
All going well, so far. Following The Midweek Melee, presented by Dave Ward, a fella who showed me the ropes at Radio Wulfrun (so blame him, right) when I spent a few months co-presenting the show. Dave is a real good chap and it's a real pleasure to work alongside him again.

Anyhoo, here's a tracklisting from one of my Monday night shows a few weeks back. 26th March 2008 to be exact;

Reasons To Be Cheerful Pt 3 - Ian Dury & The Blockheads
The Age Of The Understatement - The Last Shadow Puppets
It Takes Two / What's Goin' On? - Marvin Gaye (Request)
3 of A Kind: Kirsty MacColl 1 - They Don't Know
Unbreak My Heart - Il Divo (Request, of course a request!!)
Ooh Wakka Do, Wakka Do, Wakka Day - Gilbert O'Sullivan

Mouldy Old Dough - Lieutenant Pidgeon
Connect Four records 3 & 4: To Sir With Love / What's New Pussycat - Tom Jones
What Is Love For? - Justin Currie
Get Back To The Beatles: Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol / I'll Follow The Sun - The Beatles

Get Back To The Beatles answer - 1. Snow Patrol recorded Set The Fire To The 3rd Bar with Martha Wainwright, 2. Martha the sister of Rufus Wainwright who sang backing vocals on a track on the album "I Am A Bird, Now" by 3. Antony & The Johnsons 4. Boy George sang backing vocals on the track "You Are My Sister" on the same album.
Boy George featured on the original version of Band Aid  5. Bananarama also featured on that version, who, for a Comic Relief single recorded a version of "Help" by yer Beatles beat combo.

What ho, saps!

Long time no update. I trust you've all been well. Despite the lack of activity on this page, the radio phenomenon that is The Music Box continues apace!

I intend to update the blog with playlists by wednesday each week, and post the occasional playlist from shows of the growing archive.

In fact, the show's 1st anniversary is fast approaching. March 19th 2007 was the date that TMB took to the hospital airwaves and in the tradition of such occasions, I ought to be planning a special show for it's first birthday, but given my reputation for bad planning, it'll be the same ramshackle approach of "turn with a bunch of records and yack inbetween", lacklustre features and bad timings akimbo! I did think that I may do a "lost" connect 4 which became abandoned when I realised I had forgotten 2 of the records as part of the feature. Although that doesn't sound all that special, simply a half-assed idea borne out of laziness and lowsy planning.

I may work on something to mark the event, you never know, so watch the skies!

Since we last gathered here, on this corner of the interweb, a new feature has been introduced to the programme, called "Get Back To The Beatles", a six degrees of seperation type affair involving the Fab Four! It's a concept that I came up with a few years (my brother Jim came up with the title! Happy now, Jim!?), but have long since looked for a vehicle with which to utilise it. It suddenly dawned on me a few months ago that the dearest of radio shows was just the very place! The pretence of the feature is to prove the impact and influence The Beatles Band have had on the world of Pop music, but is really an excuse to play Beatles on the show!

Very soon I hope to upload a "podcast" of sorts to this very page on a semi-regular basis, whereby you will be able to grasp the concept of Get Back...in all it's glory! That and all of the other show's other dazzling features.

Stay tuned, cockers!
