Hello everybody!! We just put the cap back on one hell of a fun weekend. We basically got home at like 6 A.M. Sunday morning and slept for a couple of hours and then we were off to do our photo shoot with "The New October Road" lineup. Not going to lie,we are pretty damn sexy!!! Today is the day that we are going to announce who the new drummer is, but that will come later in the day so as to add an element of suspense! On Friday we made the hike down to St. James, Mn, where we celebrated Pioneer Days. It was totally worth the drive. It was also hotter than all hell but none the less, a very good time. And guess what; No Rain!! Woo Hoo! The next day, we meandered our way up to Big Lake, Mn, for the coveted Spud Fest. Man do these people know how to party. When we got there, we were greeted by one of the head honchos putting this little shindig on. He promptly led us to the BBQ pit where he unveiled what amounted to probably no less than half a heard of cattle, spread out over like five smokers. Joe and myself were instantly in fat boy heaven drooling over the Texas brisket that had been slow cooking since 5 A.M. Being a humble host, the head Chef ripped me out a handful of meat, and i was instantly in love with Big Lake! Thank you Big Lake for spiking my odds of dieing from heart disease at a young age! Man, killing yourself never tasted so good! Pass the gravy! As you may have heard, October Road has gone through a few changes lately. We have had the wonderful privilege of sharing the stage with a very good friend and fellow music junkie, Mr. Chance McMasters. Chance saved our collective asses when we needed him to jump on and fill in this summer to keep October Road rolling until our new drummer fulfilled his prior obligations. He jumped in head first and put his personal life on hold, not to mention his personal business, Drum Services Inc. For this October Road would like to thank him. We instantly gelled together and we have a very good vibe on the road. Thank you Chance! I now have the distinct pleasure of announcing the new October Road drummer. This is a man that happens to be one of my closest friends in the world. I met this guy eight or nine years ago at a party at Moorehead State. We played together in the band Subzero together and have lots of shared memories and countless miles and hours together. His family has become my own extended family and i think i have spent more holidays with them than my own family. There is literally NO other drummer in the world i would rather play with than this guy. This mystery man just so happens to be Luke Smillie. Currently of the Roosters. Formerly of 3 Dollar Molly, Sassy Jones, and Subzero. He is kid tested and mother approved and will be the final puzzle piece to complete this band. This is literally my dream band, and we will be officially kicking off with the new lineup on August 7th, on the We Fest main stage. We are expecting a show like no other, and a work ethic that is untouchable. We are very pleased that Luke is joining forces with us to take over the world! This week we will be performing at the Park Rapids Rodeo, on Friday, the 2nd. On the 3rd, we are heading to Powers Lake, ND, for a street dance. Then on the fourth, we are off to Faulkton, SD, for Wild West Days. We will be putting on a few miles this week, but half the fun is just getting there! Well, that is about all for now. Later,Ty.

Hello Folks,

It's been a little while since I jotted down my current thoughts and wishes, so i thought now would be a good opportunity being the that heat index is thwarting my desire to talk a nice run in the sun!

As Ty previously mentioned in "wang chung : a story of survival in weather's harsh reality", okay I added the last bit, we did have a great time this past weekend. The March of Dimes folks were very understanding when we told them that the night would need to be called off because of the downpour that had occurred shortly before show time. I'm sure we look like a bunch of lightweights when such occurrences, well, occur, but trust me when i say that the other option was risking many, many, many thousands of dollars in gear if we proceeded. I believe our decision was justified when a second downpour started, literally, as we were putting up the back of the trailer after loading our gear through six inches of standing water. Such is life I suppose.

Happily, we moved to a new location north of town and did it up acoustic style to about 40 or 50 of the heartiest "Perhamians" and also some good friends who came from D.L., Vergas, and even Fargo. The Bud Light's were chilled to perfection, and the evening concluded as it should have after a rollercoaster ride of events. . . . .slightly drunk, halfway soaked, and fully tired! It was a great time and I hope you'll all send a donation, as we have done, to the March of Dimes folks there in Perham to help them out since their fundraiser was literally swamped thanks to mother nature:(

Saturday in Felton was as it should be in small town Minnesota. . . . . .Bring Your Own Beer/Whisky/Jag. . . .and full of rowdy, good time people! The street was packed, the music was loud, and once again I remembered exactly why we do this. We spend 8-9 months of the year having a good time on a smaller scale. The Summer brings out the sun, the fun, the people, and a reckless abandon that we all yearn for from time to time. Just seeing so many smiley faces and people singing along pulls on my heart strings and propels me to work harder and harder to make sure our music is heard by as many people as possible. Side note : next single from the new album? Probably That's The Kind of Love We're In! People are loving that tune!

This week finds my at home plotting the concise and complete takeover of the world. We're practicing with our incoming drummer tonight, who we'll be announcing next week, and also with Chance on Thursday. We also just ordered up new merch and next week we'll have new pictures up featuring our new drummer, and also some cool shots with Chance as well! Big changes are coming for October Road, beginning on August 1st and running until September. Obviously I cannot share with you what they are now, but I predict it's gonna shake up a lot of stuff when it happens!

I'd like to tell you a bit more about our new drummer, with more information coming next week when his super secret identity is unveiled. His code name is "Two Drop Sheet Rock" and he's a guy we've been chasing for more than three years, and without a doubt is one of our closest friends. His talent and ear for music stretches far beyond being a drummer, and his addition is going to propel this band to awesome heights! We can't wait to get going with him starting in August!

I also must share with you that Chance has quickly become a very close friend to each of us as well. What an awesome guy to hang with and rock tunes with on the weekend. To call him a "fill-in" would do him a great dis-justice, so we've decided to name him an official October Road member, even if it's only until August. It's a right he deserves and we thank him again for playing with us this Summer!

With that I hope to see some of you in Saint James on Friday and Big Lake on Saturday! We played both events last year and had a blast! I expect the same will happen this year as well!

Please keep requesting "I'm Lost" on Froggy 99 or your local station and thank you all for your support!

Sincerely,
Shawn

Hey ya'll

We had a crazy weekend. Friday night we got rained out....Badly! Hail, wind, rain, etc.... totally sucked.

We had to cancel our outdoor show in Perham. We did however go to the local dance hall for a once-in-a-lifetime acoustic performance October Road style. It was totally perfect. It was so much more personal than the usual lights, smoke, and pounding volume. It was actually one of the most memorable performances of my life. We had a wonderful time Perham, it was certainly our pleasure to perform to the die-hard music fans
and we would love to be invited back!

The next night went much more smoothly; probably the most perfect summer night in MN history. Felton brought the party and totally gave the red carpet treatment to October Road. Thank you Felton for a killer evening.

This weekend we will be heading out to St. James, MN, for Pioneer Days, on the 26th. Then on the 27th we will be heading out to Big Lake, MN, for spud days. Both these days have the potential to be off the hook, so i highly suggest that you make it out.

Later, Ty.

Greetings everybody!

I NEEDED to remind everybody that the economy isn't as bad as once suspected, so please get off the wagon and come out drinking this fine Wednesday evening, at the Windbreak. Mother nature just called me and she admitted that she and her friend "Summer" have been out to lunch since about last September, but she did tell me to tell everyone that it is still technically summer, and this was the season God gave us for drinking, so DAMN IT, Start drinking!

We start at the Windbreak here in Fargo tonight. Thirsty Thursday,(Thats right, i am bringing it back!) we are going to be headed to Grandpa Al's, in Faribault, Mn. Friday, the 12th, we well be at Benton Station, in Sauk Rapids, Mn. Then on Saturday we will be up in Manhattan Beach Mn, at the Manhattan Beach Lodge. This will be my personal first time at this club, and it has water around it, I'm in! I myself am on the wagon for a while though. Turns out that you save a hell of a lot of money and i haven't made one obscene text message to anyone for a while, so it is going well! (Would Somebody please buy me a drink?!) Damn you Suzy Orman!!

Last week was pretty damn fun, i must admit. We started out at Ribfest, opening for Rodney Atkins. I wonder if he is related to the Atkins diet people? It makes sense that he would be playing at an event dedicated to the roasting and eating of nothing but meat! My kind of diet!!

Then we were off to the Sandbar in D.L. I have no idea what happened out there. My liver and i checked out for the evening! It was soooooo much fun, as it always is!

Saturday night we were at Big D's here in fargo. The place was packed and were pretty much rocked the place. The next day we hauled our dead asses back into Big D's and tore our gear down, and headed directly to the Windbreak to set up again. We did this in like three hours total, which blew my mind because it usually takes me that long just to figure out our tab!

We had a wonderful time at the Windbreak last Sunday. It is starting to feel like the good old days when Sunday was just a second Saturday! The really cool thing is that we didn't have to knock our stuff down, so everything is still set up for tonight! Woo Hoo! Like i always say, i play music for free. I get paid to set up and tear down.

We had our taking over the world strategy meeting with the band and our agent yesterday. We decided that storming the beach at Normandy would be our best tactic. Then we realized we don't even own a boat, so we scrapped that idea. It is really exciting because for once in my life, i have no idea what to expect. My whole life has been pretty predictable, like puberty, college, work, blah,blah,blah...... Now i think that all my chips are in the game, which is scary, but not as scary as working at something i hate doing for the rest of my life! Besides, i get to blow all my money on guitars and cool stuff like that.

Well, i better get going before i get all teary eyed and start reminiscing about the days of old and all that sappy stuff!!
 Peace, Ty.

P.S. Get out and support your local musicians this week. They need you, and you might even find the love of your life. You never know!

Holy hell!! Memorial Day weekend rules!!

We started out Friday night at Wyatt Earp’s, in Ramsey, MN. This was our first time playing there and it was great. I totally love this club. The staff was terrific and the place is gorgeous. Hell, they even have their own base ball diamonds and real sand volley ball courts. Very Cool! October Road wants to come back SOON! Hint, hint.

Saturday and Sunday, we were at Melvin’s, on the lake, at Spicer, MN. Alright, now how lucky did we get to have a two nighter on the holiday weekend at this place? We had a blast. This place is right on the water and the scenery isn’t too shabby, if you know what I mean! Everyone came out to party this weekend and October Road thanks you!

Sunday we were treated to T-bone steaks by Joe’s Mom and Step-dad, Peggy and Tom. This was right up my alley.  It was my first outdoor barbeque of the season and you couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. Afterward, Tom took us all out on the boat and we did a little fishing on lovely Green Lake. We didn’t catch anything, but what the hell. Anytime you have five guys on a boat with cold beer, you always win!

We have to send a huge thank you to Chance McMasters for jumping on the October Road train this summer. Chance will be drumming with us until the middle of July, when we will unveil the new October Road line up. Chance also did all of this with about a days notice. No stress!!! He rocked my face off and it was finally nice to have a completely positive vibe on stage. (Sigh of relief!).

Which brings me to the sad part…..Marc is no longer with October Road. Now he can find the band of his dreams to pursue crazy off the wall, un-rehearsed, fly by the seat of your pants, no holds barred, jazz odysseys that won’t make sense unless you’re half baked. Good luck Marc! Fly away and find your happiness, right after you get your drums put back together…Hehe.

This week we will be at the Westside, in Little Falls, MN. Then we will be at the Roadhouse, in Cormorant, MN. This place is flippin’ sweet. We can’t wait!!!

Well, that about covers it. Ya’ll stay sexy out there!

Later,Ty.

Hey ya'll! So here it is. The week of the new October Road album release. We are so excited for the coming weekend.

The first release party will be in Minot, at Dae Udder Place. Be sure to listen to our live radio interview on 94.9 FM, The Zoo and on Sunny Country, 101.9. We will be on around 8:30 AM on Friday morning, so be sure to listen in on your drive to work, or on your drive home from an all night bender!

This last week was one for the books. We started out at O'Leary's, in Moorehead. This was a Wednesday night show and i wasn't sure what to expect. I think the entire music community of Fargo came out and supported us. It was crazy. We had guest apperances by Carmen the Cactus, and the Roosters. It is always fun when you can do this stuff because it is like getting together with family for the holidays.

Friday night we were in Detroit Lakes, at the Sandbar. This is sort of out "place". It just always blows me away. I love the club, and i love the people who go there. Thank you to everyone who came out and partied with us. We got hot and sweaty together and i kinda liked it! Saturday night we played a private party in Waubin, MN. This crowd was very awesome; very illegal, but none the less, very cool! Oh to be sixteen again!

After the show on Saturday, we were paid a visit by our good friend and fellow musician, Luke S. from the Roosters. We were feeling a little thirsty so we decided to have "A Beer" back at my place. A beer turned into much much more than that and lead to Shawn, Luke, and myself still drinking at 8:30 in the morning. Actually Shawn passed out like a little bitch somewhere around 5 AM, but to his defense he only had about three hours of sleep that whole week, so we will let him off the hook this time. Luke and I, on the other hand must have looked pretty stellar to all the people going to church that morning while we were stumbling in from the patio grasping a nearly empty bottle of Velvet. Yuck! That stuff sucks so bad, but you have to go slumming once in a while.

Anyways, i better go and work on detoxing my body after that little incident, as i made a vow to never drink again. Can't wait to see you all this weekend for the big release party. Next week we will be at the Windbreak, right here in Fargo, on the 15th, 16th, and 17th, for the Fargo CD release party. Don't miss this cause it is going to be a blast.

Well that about covers it. You stay classy world! Peace out, Ty

Magic Blue Smoke...

He ya'll! I trust  that this will find everyone in good health and prosperity.

So this last weekend was a total kick ass experience. We were off to Bismark to play the Burnt Creek and burn off some post album-recording steam. The weekend went as expected until Saturday night. Apparently some drunk tried to assist us with our sound equipment and made the magic "blue smoke" appear from the speakers. I love this old trick, but you can only do it once and it costs a shit load to buy more "magic blue smoke" to back inside your speakers. So hats off to you Mr. Unknown Magician....Crack open a cold Bud Light you master of mayhem. In fact, make it two...you never know when October Road is going to find you and make the "Magic Blue Smoke" come out of you!!!!

I know i totally ripped off the Bud Light commercials. Me funny guy! Seriously though; we are well pissed after the whole blowing up all of our speakers thing. I wish people would just honor the age old rule of thumb; don't F with stuff that doesn't belong to you. I think that cost us about a thousand yen or something.

There now i am done pissing and moaning. We are totally done with Rise and Shine, our new album. This thing has all our heart and soul in it. It will be arriving for your listening pleasure very soon. At least i hope it will, because i would feel pretty bad about throwing a CD release party and giving out I.O.U.'s.

This week we are starting out at O'leary's in Moorhead, on Wednesday night. This should be a blast. I have never played here before so i am all gigity gigity on this one.

Friday night we are headed to the Sandbar in D.L. This place always rocks my face off. Seriously, cause i just had it re-attached.

Saturday night we are playing a private party somewhere in MN.

Well you better get out and catch a show or you will be waking up next to the king from the B.K. commercials. Creepy.....

Peace out. Ty.

Hello Friends,

I've got all you necessary information for the release of our new album "Rise and Shine"!

First and foremost I must tell you how very proud we are of this album! We truly poured our heart and soul into every song and utilized all the skills we learned from making the first two albums while shying away from any of the million mistakes we made:) Recording the album in our own studio allowed us to really feel comfortable and take the time we needed to lay down the songs just the way we wanted it. We really think that "Rise and Shine" is a huge leap above the first two albums and we are looking forward to sharing the music with you all!

Speaking of which. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Our first single will be going to radio on May 1st and we're still debating which song to release. I'm leaning towards the song "I'm Lost" while "Pinball" and "One Perfect Moment" are also strong contenders.

Also on May 1st we'll be putting some tracks up on MySpace for your listening pleasure!

The new album will be available on our website (www.october-road.com) for pre-order onApril 28th and all orders will ship out on May 6th.

The first CD release show will be in Minot, ND @ Dae Udder Place on May 8th. For those of you up that neck of the woods please tune into either The Zoo 94.9 or or Sunny 101.9 on Friday morning as we'll be joining the morning show by phone for a little chat about the album! Also, The Zoo will be doing a live remote with us the following day (also at Dae Udder) where we'll be selling and signing the new album!

The second release show will be @ The Windbreak in Fargo, ND on May 15th. We'll be joining the Froggy Morning Show on Froggy 99.9 that morning, or the morning before. I'll get that straightened out as soon as we get it all firmed up. As of right now we're working to get Hopalong Cassidy and some of the Froggy Gang to join us that night at the release and we're also working with Budweiser to try and get some goodies to give away!

The third release show will be in my hometown of Little Falls, MN @ The West Side Bar on May 29th and we'll likely be doing a short interview on the local station FM94 94.1!

The final release show will be @ Benton Station on June 11th in Sauk Rapids, MN. We've done a bunch of stuff with Wild99 over the years so we'll likely be setting up some stuff with them and I'll have more info for you soon.

We've also pressed a new line of T-Shirts and are going to have a limited edition run of "Rise and Shine" shirts available at the shows. There's only 50 of those so you'll wanna grab one right away!

The new album is going to be $10 and all t-shirts will also be $10. For the release shows we'll be doing a deal where you get the new CD, a limited edition shirt, and a special "fan pass" and lanyard for $20.

I think that's about all I got for info right now! Keep checking back for more info!

Sincerely,
Shawn

So this last week was truly one for the books.

We started out on Tuesday night with 8th Hour and Tripwire at the Windbreak for St. Paddy’s day. It pretty much rocked. I do believe that October Road won the beer drinking contest at a whopping three cases! Woo Hoo! Our mothers would be so proud.

Thursday night we were in Aberdeen, SD, at the Zoo. I love this place. Cheap beer, good people; what more could you ask for?  Actually everyone was cool except for one d- bag with a killer mullet and a ratty tank top that kept flipping me off for no apparent reason. He was my favorite. Hey, I think Slayer called. They want the shirt back that you stole from their concert back in 84.  He learned pretty quickly that you don’t get into a battle of wits with a dude on a microphone. You always lose sucka!!!

Man I love trash talking. It makes me feel so alive! I usually try to keep these pretty kosher but damn it, some times I gotta let Ty out of the bag.

So any way….where was I? Oh yeah. Aberdeen  rocks the Hiz-Ouse! The staff is very cool. I especially like that their bouncers are like decently nice people. Nothing pisses me off more than going to a place where the bouncers fluff each other in the back room and then come out and try to intimidate the hell out of the patrons. I call shenanigans on that! I am really de-railing on this one, but what the hell, I’ll go with it.

On Friday night we were in Bismarck, at the Burnt creek. Now deductive reasoning tells me that there are far better routes to drive from Aberdeen to Bismarck than the one we took. We had to return to Fargo because Shawn’s immune system is out to lunch and Ear, Nose, and Throat was called in to save the day.  Paging Dr. Please Fix Our Lead singer:)  Anyhow, turns out that Shawn’s V-Cords are still golden as ever but his ever defective sinus cavities are finally caput.  Thy fixed him up with some killer prescriptions and he’s feeling brand new again for the first time since December and this fall they’re gonna Rooter Router those bad boys out so he doesn’t have to become a street walker to pay for his antibiotics!

Jeff and the staff at the Burnt Creek took extra special care of us this weekend. We saw a lot of old friends and tore it up like rock stars. I think the staff at Super 8 is getting sick of having to throw us out after check out time because we are still in bed. I love that hotel so much; right next to Starbuck’s; my kind of place!

This week we are frantically trying to get the guitars tracked before we get flooded out of down town. We are praying for the best and keeping our fingers crossed. I think tomorrow night is designated October Road sand bagging night. This community really comes together when we need to and it is amazing to see it work. The rest of the world should take note. There hasn’t been any looting, rioting, shooting at each other, shooting at officials, raping each other, raping of any animals, raping of any officials, bitching, moaning, complaining, etc…..

We were in the studio until three thirty this morning hammering out my guitar parts. I had a blast last night. I think we could sit up there day and night. The time flies by so fast when you are in the “creating mode”. Shawn has really busted his balls on this album. I haven’t put half of the effort in that he has, so when this is done, I think I am going to have to take him out to Denny’s, my treat.

Well that about covers it. I better go and get ready to take on Mother Nature.  We are supposed to be at Major’s in Albertville ,MN, on Friday. Then on Saturday and Sunday night we are at the Windbreak here in Fargo. We don’t know what is going to happen with the flood, so keep checking in with us and we will post any cancellations.

Peace out. Ty.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Hey everyone. I trust that you have heard October Road had to cancel our show tonight at O’learys. I know, I know, it sucks. I am snowed out of Fargo and Shawn is battling yet another bout with his un-relenting sinuses. We should lock him in a plastic bubble!

This last weekend was truly one for the books. We started out on Wednesday night with our good friends, the Roosters, at the Windbreak, in Fargo. We had a terrific night and the crowd was better than most weekend nights. We started out the first set, then the Roosters did a set, and then came the inter-twined cluster you know what at the end. We had a two band free for all and it was a total blast. By the way, Mike Morse has the world’s best sounding guitar rig, and now I have guitar envy.

Thursday night we made it to Grandpa Al’s by the skin of our teeth. We had a vehicle failure that just about killed the show. Thanks to Brady’s service center, and the grace of God, we made a photo finish into Faribault, MN, in time for the show. Then my new amp took a digger for the third weekend in a row. I was well pissed, and so was Shawn, as he didn’t get to play his newly re-furbished fender deluxe after I commandeered it. Sorry bro. I am hating it for ya!!!!

Friday we were at Benton Station, in lovely Sauk Rapids, MN. This place is always a hoot. The staff was wonderful and I will be damned if the crowd wasn’t truly adorable.

We also took pictures earlier in the day with our good friend Matt Fetterly. He is also the band host who lets us crash in his basement whenever we are there. Thanks a lot Bro. We got some killer shots in beautiful downtown Minneapolis. We also almost died on top of a less than structurally sound train bridge. Good times. We did however get the money shot for the new album cover. All I can say is freakin’ sweet.

Saturday we were up in Grand Forks at the Long Haul Saloon. This place threw me for a loop. Definitely a cool place. The staff rocked and the crowd did to. This place was unreal. Not one noise complaint, no fights, and the patrons get totally into it. Grand Forks loves live music. We will be back and I can’t wait.

This week we are in the studio and making leaps and bounds on the new album. We are very proud and excited to unveil our new work very soon. I think October Road is finding a more mature sound and running with it. This isn’t like anything you have ever heard from us and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We are at the Sandbar in Detroit Lakes this Friday night. It is typically pandemonium whenever we are there. I love this place.

Saturday night we are at Big D’s in Fargo. We usually raise the roof off of this place and the crowd is always a riot. Better bring your drinking shoes

Well that about covers it. I better go and figure out how I am going to get back to Fargo this week, as mother nature hasn’t loosened up her grasp quite yet.

Later ya’ll. Ty.
